  1. I had my surgery the 17th at 2 pm. Came home yesterday and I'm really struggling with the pain and getting the fluids in. Worst part is not being able to take a deep breath. I'm still taking pain meds every 4 hours which is helping some. How long does this pain usually last?
  2. He is with Blue Point Surgical Group, right? It's a really good group and Fair Oaks hospital has this surgery process down to a science. I was with them originally but switched to Virginia Hospital Center after my insurance changed (I also started working at VHC). I went with Dr. Salemeh and am scheduled for 2pm tomorrow! I think the most important thing is to use a center if excellence.
  3. I'm scheduled for 2pm tomorrow and am due to check in at noon. I'm nervous as well but it seems to be getting better. Good luck to all who are going in tomorrow!
  4. Having major butterflies but so looking forward to tomorrow. Good luck to all of us making the jump tomorrow!

    Multiple Sclerosis and the Sleeve

Wow - they thought I had Gullien Barre initially in 2006 when I was diagnosed - I had ascending paralysis. It was not fun. Teh steroids killed me with weight gain and are a major part of the reason I gained most of my weight (well steroids and immobility and stress and...). Dana - I live in Northern Virginia - right outside of Washington, DC. I need to finish up my profile and add pictures and all that stuff.

    Multiple Sclerosis and the Sleeve

Yay - someone else out there like me! I'm actually going to be taking my interferon the night of my surgery in the hospital - that's how important it was to my neurologist that I keep taking it. They basically told me to crush all my pills the day of surgery and take with a small amt. of water. I'm leaving out the provigil that day since it is for fatigue and a little fatigue will probably be ok on the day of surgery. Also - according to my neurologist - the sleeve is the best for MS patients due to the amount of NSAID's we take (steroids, etc) which require normal gut function to break them down. The pre-op testing people who you talk to before surgery should tell you all of this but keep a list of questions so you don't have to call them back like I did to ask about bringing my own meds to the hospital.

I Am Soo Freaking Scared to Do This!

Thanks for these posts. I am really scared too - and I feel silly for being so scared. I'm not really superstitious, but literally minutes after I got the call telling me I was approved and getting a surgery date, there was an e-mail to hospital leadership (I work in a hospital) that we now stock bariatric body bags! Seriously???? Anyway - it feels good to confess this fear. I am having surgery in less than a week now and the fear and excitement are both sort of messing with my mind!
  8. I am having my surgery on 12/17 as well! It would be great to have a group to follow through this journey. I live in Northern Virginia. I am doing a week of slim-fast diet as requested by my surgeon, so I am on day 2 of it so far. I forgot to weigh myself yesterday, and this morning realized my scale is broken, so I've got to get a new one before surgery. Basically I'm spending the week trying out some new Protein drinks, buying a new blender (and possibly scale), and trying to get all my Christmas stuff done since I am planning on being a little out of it this year. I think someone else mentioned being a little scared. I am feeling this as well and not really sure why. I'm not scared about the diet after - I'm just worried about something happening during the surgery. I've had one surgery before and didn't feel this way. I wonder why I feel it now. I think I am just psyching myself out - but it is a little unsettling.
