  1. Reading this made me think about how long it's been since I had anything fried. I can't remember when- definitely before surgery. My inlaws are on a low carb, Atkins-type diet. About a month ago we went to Red Lobster and they got the "Admiral's Feast"- a huge plate of every fried piece of seafood possible. But they wouldn't eat a baked potato. They did it again at my graduation dinner last week. They think fried battered food doesn't have carbs....IMHO, fried battered food is as bad as it gets...
  2. This is just my personal experience, but I have recently been raising my calorie level, from 800-900 to 1000-1200. I was stalling way too much. I track all of my food on MFP, and follow those forums as well. I have been doing quite well in the last few weeks- made onderland and lost 2-3 lbs per week. I also am actually enjoying food and feeling pretty satisfied. I limit carbs to less than 100. I admit I don't get the recommended amount of protein everyday, though. I don't drink shakes- haven't had one of those in a couple months. I exercise most days of the week- Zumba, swimming, elliptical, and walking. I think it can be really beneficial to increase your calories in a reasonable way. Also, eating like a "normal" person can help us in the long run to keep the weight off. Good luck everyone!!!

    Damn you, pasta!

...and I just had the slimies and dry heaves...yeah...pasta was not a good idea. Looks like there is something my sleeve doesn't like.

    Damn you, pasta!

It is where you process cauliflower in a blender or food processor until it resembles rice. You can cook it either after or before you blend it. It's a fabulous rice substitute for us post-ops (or pre-ops for that matter) who want to avoid the carbs and calories in white rice.
  5. I am probably jinxing myself, but since I have increased carbs, this has not been as much of an issue. I am 5 months out.
  6. How many calories are you eating now, how much exercise do you get, & what's your height and weight?
  7. What did they give you in the hospital?
  8. I made it- today I made it under 200- BUH-BYE!!!!!

    Cereal?

I have eaten Fiber One cereals- the 'original' one is NOT good. I have tried, and it's just...not good. Can't do it. There is one that is chocolate that is palatable. I also have eaten the Special K protein cereal, which is very good and recommended by my NUT. Right now I have been eating some "regular" cereal- an off-brand Honey bunches of oats-type cereal (1/2 cup w/ 1/2 cup milk & 1/2 banana) because I bought it when I had company in town and I don't want to waste it. I don't eat cereal every day, I alternate with eggs...good luck! Cereal has been fine for my weight loss. Everything in moderation!!!!
  10. OMG! Glad you're OK now! Looks like the surgery was a real lifesaver in more ways than one!

    I just want to eat

Oh my goodness, you're preaching to the choir! I was fairly depressed after surgery, wanting to be able to eat anything other than shakes or mushies. It gets lots better. At 5 months out I am eating anything and everything, sensibly. Imagine, if you would, that I was sleeved on 12/17/12 and had to witness my family eating Christmas dinner!!!! Looking forward to next December when I can join in, again, sensibly...you're normal.

    Not A Magic Cure--Am I Alone?

Um, no, don't drop your calories. You may be eating too little, although for how far out you are, it seems about right. Dropping them to 500 will seriously f- up your metabolism, not to mention it's not healthy. I eat 1000-1200 calories a day and I am losing.

    Let it be known...

Congrats!!!! That's my next goal too- I am less than 2 lbs away! Awesome work!
  15. Actually, I forgot about that magic bean I take every morning...in all seriousness, there's no magic pill. See a doctor and don't ask for advice when you don't want to hear it. WOW.
  16. What a difference! Awesome job!

    is it me?

    OMG, I WISH! LOL

    Need to Vent....

I am also 5 months out exactly (surgery 12/17) and my weight loss has slowed as well. I am OK with it- I feel SO much better 100 lbs lighter (pre- and post-op loss). I am at the point to where I am happy if the number on the scale moves down at all, and it still is, just not as fast. I think you have done a marvelous job- the cliché is true- you didn't put it all on in 5 months, it's not going to come off in that time either.

    best decision ever.... down 85lbs.

    So fabulous! Congrats!
  20. I just read your profile to get a handle on where you are in your journey. I agree with others, you should not be eating so little. I realize we are all different, but I eat between 1000-1200 a day and losing, with going to the gym and Zumba 3-5 times a week. Try eating above 1000. You look AMAZING, BTW. Slow losing has done your body good!
  21. I am limiting carbs, but not to any certain number. A lot of my carbs come from fruit and vegetables. Basically, how I do it is I eat what I want (healthy choices), but for instance, if I have a burger, no bun. Stir-fry, no rice. No sides of noodles or pasta. Very few white potatoes. That is about the extent of my carb-limiting. It's possible I may lose slower at this point, but I will enjoy food and life a little more. I also think it might help me in the long run when I am in maintenance. It's something I can definitely live with. As far as whether it works for weight loss- take people who are on weight watchers for instance: they are not low carbing- they are counting points, not carbs. A lot of them are very successful.

do i have to buy post-op diet from my NUT?

OMG, no, you don't. Do an internet search on high-protein liquid diets or post- bariatric surgery liquid diets. That is just so freaking money-grubbing. Unreal.

    Help!

My surgeon suggested this as well.
  24. So I have dropped 101 lbs with both pre- and post-op losses. I am feeling much better, obviously, and am looking more "normal" sized. The only time I am upset at how I look is when I try on clothes. The sizes are smaller (16/18) or L or XL, but God, my tummy...lets hope if it's the last to go it does GO. Ugh. Definitely my problem area. But I digress. I think I have done pretty well since surgery (71 lbs in less than 5 months), and have never had much of a problem with any one food. My sleeve accepts pretty much everything happily. I think I might be OK with losing slower at this point, like even if its 5 lbs a month or so. What that means for me is, well, continuing what I have been doing, i.e., eating about 1200 calories with healthy carbs thrown in. I will continue to avoid most pasta, rice, potatoes, bread, and added sugars, with some indulgence in these "forbidden" foods very occasionally (I graduated on May 10 and had a small piece of cake two days last week- still lost a decent amount & reached 100 lbs lost). My diet really varies from day to day, depending on things like leftovers, etc. Sometimes I eat cereal in the morning, sometimes scrambled eggs. I weigh and measure everything and track it on MFP. I go to the gym and Zumba as often as I can- usually 3-5 days a week. I guess what I am trying to say is that I want to eat like a normal person while making good decisions food-wise. I am hopeful that this way of living will help me make this change lifelong. If it means losing a little slower, so be it. I am happy.
  25. Not my whole life, well, since I was about 6. So, yes, pretty much my whole life. However, I have had times since then that I have been at a healthy weight- for about 5 minutes when I was 21....
