Help - scheduled for Band on Feb 1, should I do Sleeve?
lilbearzmom replied to outlaw's topic in The Guys’ Room
As someone who had the sleeve, I love it and would highly recommend it, and would say "hell no" to the band. That being said, no one surgery is for everyone, it's a very personal decision based on being informed and just plain personal preference. Good luck on your decision! -Kendra -
Let me think about this for a minute...NO. You won't physically be able to and you won't want to. -Kendra

Searching for encouragement
lilbearzmom replied to Stranger 123's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I would love to know why some sleevers have a drain and some do not. If the surgeon could avoid it, wouldn't they? I did not have a drain, thank the Lord. It makes an invasive procedure even more so and jumps up the risk of infection. I don't get it. -Kendra -
I hate them too. Luckily in the soft food phase I have been able to meet the low end of the target with help from unjury chicken broth flavor. If I could get down the serving size of my meals, I would have no problem... -Kendra

Help I need advice!
lilbearzmom replied to UndercoverBariatricGal's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am only three weeks out and I have had a couple of stalls, but the way I see it is this- if you are only taking in 500 or so calories a day, is it logical that if you maintain that caloric intake, you won't ever lose any more weight? No, it isn't. Stalls are totally natural and normal. Our bodies think we are starving, so it hangs on to the pounds for dear life, until it can't anymore. We have not evolved much past the caveman days, if at all. LOL -Kendra -
Help I need advice!
lilbearzmom replied to UndercoverBariatricGal's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I would not go back to the liquid diet unless I was not tolerating the purreed or soft diet. You are supposed to be retraining your stomach to eat normally. Call your NUT tomorrow and let him/her know what's happening. Good luck! -Kendra -
When can we eat fruit and salads
lilbearzmom replied to thensley820's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was sleeved on 12/17, and I can have canned mandarin oranges- would that satisfy your orange craving? I cannot have salads, raw vegetables, or nuts until mid- February (two months post-surgery) -Kendra -
So glad my sleeve surgeon took mine out while he was in there! I was diagnosed with gallstones during my pre-op u/s. I really didn't know I had them but periodically would have this dull aching pain in my back that was rather unpleasant, which was gall bladder related, I think. -Kendra

I think maybe as long as the coffee is warm, not hot, it won't change it. I mean, unjury sells that chicken Soup Protein powder that is supposed to be served warm. Also, you would have "clumps" of the powder drifting around in your coffee if it "cooked". Not 100% sure though, seems like a trainer would know more than me. -Kendra

CONSTANTLY HUNGRY :(((
lilbearzmom replied to Mz.Smurf's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It's good that you're nipping this in the bud now- definitely give you props for that! I guess my next question is if you are on any kind of antacid- usually the kind of hunger you are describing is acid reflux, not hunger. -Kendra -
Could be your internal stitches dissolving. The NP at my surgeon's office warned me that a few weeks post-op some people have pain, sometimes severe. It is apparently normal. Call them and let them know, though. Doesn't sound like a leak, though. -Kendra

I had those dreams right after surgery- only I didn't spit it out. I did wake up with my heart pounding, though, thanking God it was just a dream! -Kendra

For the sleevers , is it okay to have a stuff potato ?
lilbearzmom replied to Mrs Jacobs's topic in Food and Nutrition
Sounds like you did great!!!!! -
You won't be hungry, at least physically. The head hunger is what is the hard thing to overcome. That being said, I would definitely recommend this surgery. -Kendra

lilbearzmom replied to Mrs Jacobs's topic in Food and Nutrition
I think it's OK to have potato every once in awhile- like as a side dish- I mean, if you eat your Protein first, you won't have much room but for a couple small bites of your potato, probably, which should not derail you. -Kendra -
OMG! I reallly can't blv this !
lilbearzmom replied to lortesha86's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Very normal. Everything smells so good to me but the thought of the pain involved if I can't tolerate it keeps me from indulging. I had my surgery right before Christmas and it was hard. I like the smell of the food but I'm not hungry. -Kendra -
I started my soft food phase today- whoopee! I am seriously enjoying my soggy Special K Protein plus! Looks like I will be able to get down all of it- 1/2 cup Cereal soaked in 1/4 skim milk...yum yummy yum. On another note, have you guys really noticed the difference in your grocery cart? I read literally every label before I put anything in the cart. My cart looks SO much different post-sleeve. That's what I think I love most about my sleeve- it allows me to not only eat less, but it allows me to choose healthy food that my old big stomach would have been hungry on...one more week then regular diet! -Kendra Starting: 302 SW (12/17): 272 This morning: 251

Why are my readings not coming down?!?!?!
lilbearzmom replied to bascott73's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I also had that complication in the hospital- sugar went up over 300 under anesthesia. I was sent home on Metformin, but I don't test my blood sugar every day. -Kendra -
Cannot sleep thinking about my weight

What does your hunger feel like?
lilbearzmom replied to suzthebrit's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I haven't felt "hunger pangs" since surgery, but I do have kind of an "empty" feeling that is pretty much impossible to describe. I know I'm full when either I have to just push my plate away or I feel like I've got something in my throat. The throat thing is definitely a warning that maybe I have eaten just a tiny bit too much. -Kendra -
I made the most adorable one-egg cheese omelet for Breakfast this morning. It was seriously little and cute. As I'm looking at it, I realize that it's really a metaphor symbolizing my life & eating for the rest of my life. It may be that Im just getting it because today is my 3 week sleeve-iversary and I am just now getting into soft foods. I am realizing how much I will be eating, and it's like a mini one-egg omelet that I only could eat half of...hopefully this makes sense and you're not all thinking I'm a freak. LOL -Kendra Starting weight: 302 SW (12/17): 272 Yesterday: 254

My breakfast omelet is a metaphor....
lilbearzmom replied to lilbearzmom's topic in Food and Nutrition
I just used the whole egg and filled it with 1 tbsp of shredded sharp cheddar cheese- very simple. -Kendra -
OMG, never even gave that a thought....thanks! I have had one since my son was born 8 1/2 years ago. -Kendra

Surgery is tomorrow morning! God i hope i am making the right decision. Please tell me it is worth it!
lilbearzmom replied to Luckystar12's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I will be 3 weeks post-op tomorrow and I am LOVING my sleeve. True, there are some horror stories, but the surgery is very safe. Congratulations on your decision to take charge of your life and your health. This time tomorrow you may be thinking, OMG, WTH? BUT, it fades quickly. Good luck! -Kendra -
