  1. Hey there Wendy! Ha ha! Anyone notice how the real Wendy looks like a drag queen? LOL Anyway, I am 24 pounds down from my surgery date, down 54 pounds from my highest weight about 1 year ago. I am freaking ecstatic, even though I seem to be in a bit of a stall right now- I'm retaining SOMETHING because I gained .8 between last night and this morning. I am only able to get down about 650 calories a day, and I struggle with getting enough Protein and getting all of my fluids in. I am great about taking my Vitamins. I was supposed to have another post-op appointment today, but I had a sick kid home from school so I rescheduled for Thursday. I hope 4 weeks out finds you all well and rockin' your sleeves! -Kendra Highest weight: 302 SW: 272 (12/17) This morning: 248.8

    Really High BMI

I was sleeved here in the US with a BMI of 46. When I went for my intial physical, it seemed like my doctor preferred that if your BMI was over 50, you were a better candidate for the RNY gastric bypass. If you notice, most of us who are on this forum have right around 100 lbs to lose. I'm not saying the sleeve won't work for someone over 50 BMI, but it seems like consensus in general is folks with BMI less than 50. That being said, it's a good tool for weight loss- I hope you are able to get your sleeve no matter what your BMI. Good luck! -Kendra
  5. In my case, its my husband. He LOVES fried food. We have a deep fat fryer that just sits on the kitchen counter. Even before surgery, I wasn't much into deep fried things. Now. post-surgery. I am really kind of afraid of certain things, like deep fried food, rice, things high in sugar, etc., for fear of 1) how it may make me feel (want to die); and 2) IT'S BAD FOR ME and not in accordance with how I would like to live my life from here on out. He won't let up on how I should go ahead and eat fried food if I want to, and rice is OK and I should have California rolls once in awhile, or chunks of white bread with butter, blah blah blah. It's like, maybe I CAN eat it, but I don't want to!!! Ugh. I don't feel like I have explained it well enough, but he just doesn't seem to get that along with my stomach, I have changed. Here's another example: I had my surgery 12/17, so I had to sit there and watch my family eat a big turkey dinner with all the trimmings. I had a Protein shake. Hubby insists that as soon as I'm on a regular diet, he's going to make another big turkey dinner with all of the trimmings so I can have some. HELLO, 1) I'm going to eat the turkey and vegetables ONLY; 2) I am only going to be able to eat a few bites. So what the hell is the point? I have tried telling him NO, but he literally gets mad. SO, he may make it (I hope he just forgets about it), and then I won't eat it...would serve him right I guess. Sorry for the rant! LOL On a postive note, I am 4 weeks out today and tomorrow I can start a regular diet with a few exceptions! Whooppeee! -Kendra Starting: 302 SW (12/17): 272 This morning (in a stall): 248.8
  6. I have thought of that- that he is subconsiously trying to sabotage me. I know I've got to be on my guard with that.
  7. Funny you should mention that- when I was cleared for soft foods I tried to eat some turkey cold cuts with a little honey mustard and I felt SO ILL afterward. Very few things up until then made me feel like crap, but that did it.

    surgery @ 8 am tomorrow.

That was totally me before surgery. Everyone at my surgeon's office was like, "Aren't you so excited?" I was thinking, um, no, not really...had a mix of emotions. I'm sure all will be well- you are doing this so that you will make sure to be with your son for a long time. The surgery is really very safe. Good luck! -Kendra

    Drinking and eating

The liquid will cause the food in your sleeve to "wash out" quicker and you may not feel full and therefore not stop eating when you should. -Kendra
  10. I would love to know how we are supposed to get 1000 + calories in only a month out! I was sleeved 12/17 and I cannot get more than 650 per day down (that's a GOOD day). -Kendra Highest weight: 302 SW (12/17): 272 This morning: 248
  11. ...buying clothes to replace the ones that are too big? I was just sleeved 12/17, but I am almost 40 lbs down from my starting weight and my clothes are seriously baggy. My underwear falls down. I guess what I need to do is go through ALL of my clothes in hopes of finding a few things I may have grown out of before. I have no problem going to a thrift store, but we all know how hard it was finding clothes that fit in a place that sells new clothes at our old weight, and thrift stores are so hit-or-miss. Any suggestions? -Kendra

    Best protein bar?

I am about to be able to graduate to Protein bars and I am really needing help finding one that meets my needs as a sleever and tastes good. I'm talking high protein, low sugar, low carb, reasonably priced, etc. Suggestions? Thanks SO much! -Kendra Starting: 302 SW (12/17): 272 Today: 249

Um, why? You're doing fine. I'm down 22 lbs in 4 weeks and I'm freaking ecstatic.
  14. That's fantastic! That will be me come June- taking my son to Texas to see family! -Kendra
  15. Ignore me. I misread your post! I thought you had your surgery 7 weeks ago! LOL! Congrats on your weight loss! Go girl! -Kendra
  16. Please tell us you meant 7 months not 7 weeks!
  17. Hey all, I have been really lucky and tolerated all food I have thrown at my new tummy...except last night. I was at work and had brought some cheese & crackers with me for a snack (4 wheat thins & 1 oz swiss cheese). Right after I ate them I got nauseated and had to run to the bathroom where I did vomit- sort of. I was wretching, but nothing was really coming up. It wasn't dry heaves- I had stuff in my stomach. So now I'm thinking, so stuff will go down, but when you need to throw up, it won't come up? I had eaten this same snack once before, and I didn't have issues with it, so what gives? Did this ever happen to anyone else? And what's with the bizarre "non-vomiting"? -Kendra (Sleeved 12/17/12)

    smokers

Why not just quit? What's the point of undergoing surgery to lose weight to save your life and then you continue to smoke, which will in all likelihood result in an early death anyway or at least severe loss of enjoyment of life? Get a patch or talk to someone, don't light up, seriously! -Kendra

    Go, girl!

    Sprite

Try shaking it up to get rid of the carbonation- I'd be very afraid of what would happen if you had bubbly stuff. Hope you're better soon! -Kendra

    Searching for encouragement

NOT a factual statement. OPINION only. Actually, a good doctor would also understand that a drain ups the risk of infection and is an extra invasive measure. I'm pretty sure my doctor weighed all of the risks and benefits during my surgery, but thanks for the advice. And by the way, I AM in the medical profession.
