Ok, my surgeon wants me to start my liquid preop diet 10-14 days before surgery. Did anyone do the diet longer? I'm wanting to start sooner to lose whatever I can before surgery and to make extra sure my liver is the suitable size lol. This will be my first surgery and stay in the hospital in my life so I'm a little nervous about the whole liver thing. I want to start it sooner or do some kind of almost all liquid diet. I just need some input

10 things I can't wait to do
lacifer90 replied to Dualstarr's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I would love to do the thing at Mammoth Cave! Here's the beginning of my mile long list... 1. Go to an amusement park and enjoy it. 2. Be able to wear something besides a T-shirt and be comfortable. 3. Pay all the jerks that have a problem with my weight a little visit. 4. Not be looked down on because of my size. 5. Be able to swim without wearing basketball shorts and a T-shirt. 6. Attempt to walk in heels, that will be a first for me. 7. I would love to go to a paint party 8. Walk the whole Zombie Walk in Memphis. 9. I can't wait to not feel like everyone around me is judging me. 10. To be able to take my teenage sister out and not be looked over. -

weigh in #2 didnt go so well
lacifer90 replied to hopeliveshere's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My weight went up and down every month of my 6 months. I would lose 3 then gain 2. The last weigh in I gained 5 and figured I could give up on approval but I was approved. If your insurance is like mine the 6 months is to show that you attempted to lose the weight. My diet requirement for insurance was basically worded "attempt and failure to lose more than 10% of excess body weight". So I wouldn't stress too much over it. -
Did anyone smoke after surgery?
lacifer90 replied to joyinthesouth's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
Well just reading all of this makes me want to go smoke. I go for my preop in less than 2 weeks and my surgeon does test for nicotine so I have to quit 30 days before surgery. I didn't have the best supervised diet weigh ins so I'm afraid of gaining before I meet with the surgeon. Now for the former smokers and not the non smokers I have a question...I've tried to quit a few times over this process because I knew it was coming but when I stop smoking I eat more but if I'm smoking I eat less. How does one handle this when they can't afford to eat everything under the roof while they're trying to quit? I don't want to miss getting surgery done over smoking but I don't want to miss it over gaining weight either. -
doing cartwheels...in my mind
lacifer90 replied to lacifer90's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
If you are meeting with your regular doctor and going thru your insurance to do it there really isn't much to expect. We had to do a 6 month supervised diet and my doc ran tests our first visit but I don't think that's typical of most doctors. From what I can figure the supervised diet is just to prove that you are trying and don't continue to gain weight. I did gain a couple of the months but I never gained back to my highest. If your insurance does require a 6 month diet you have to stick to it. My doctor talked to us about it and she's had others that started the process but just quit after the first couple of months. It's a pain to have to wait that long but I think it was for the best for me. When I started I was still on the fence about the surgery but once I realized I really do have a stopping point on what I can lose on my own I knew it was the right choice. -
I have officially been approved for surgery along with my sister. We go for our preop appt on the 6th. I can't believe how close this is to happening. I thought the 6 month diet was going to drag on for a lifetime but it flew by and now we're on to the next step. I'm extremely excited and having a hard time keeping it a secret. I haven't told anyone about the surgery outside of my family and my best friend. I finally broke down and told another friend today and he was in shock. I'm moving back closer to home a few months after surgery so I'm trying to keep it between me and my family so I can go back home and be like surprise. I'm stoked, that is all.

We will hopefully set a surgery date when we meet with the surgeon on the 6th. I'm glad we're both doing it too. -
So Who's The Fat Girl Now?!

Congrats! I was wondering is the 104 since surgery or was part of it preop? I go for my last weigh in next month and hope to have amazing loss like you have! -
My mom was the same way when I started the process. She tried to scare me with the leaks and deaths and all that. I've been on Phentermine multiple times because that's what she wanted me to do and have almost had to go to the hospital on them. They can cause heart attacks faster then my weight problem can. I had to start the process and go thru most of it without her support. I go for my last weigh in next month and she is finally on board. Once she realized this was the best option for where I am in life and that the hospital I'm using hasn't had any deaths or anything she has accepted it and is actually encouraging me now. I decided at the beginning of this that I was going to do it with or without her support because I have to do what's best for me. That's the way you have to look at it. She hadn't quite been in my shoes because she was skinny and healthy all of her life until she started having kids whereas I've been overweight for as long as I can remember. I think that is why she was anti surgery when it all started. Didn't mean to ramble that much but I hope it helps!

Thank you! My sister and me are both trying to do it at the same time so I don't know if that is going to help or hurt me...

I go for my 5 month weigh in this week. One more month then it's on to insurance. I found out that my insurance usually takes about 2 weeks to give a response which might be nice or drive me crazy if they actually take longer. The closer I get, the more scared I get. I have never been small in my adult life, I'm 22 and have been overweight for as long as I can remember. This is going to be a whole new world to me...I just hope I'm ready for it.

I have done 4 months of supervised dieting so far, only 2 left until I move on to phase 2. I have lost about 20 pounds from my highest weight so far. I hit a speed bump last month and gained 3 but I'm back on the losing end this month. I'm so ready to get this done and over with and move on with my new life. Just wanted to get that out there lol. I don't have many people to talk to about it outside of my sister who is also working towards the surgery and my parents.

Thanks. I've lost 20ish so far but she wants me to keep losing so she put me on pills. I just hope I don't lose too much for insurance to not cover the surgery.

I'm curious to see how much weight people lost in the 6 month supervised dieting before they had surgery done? My insurance says I have to do 6 month supervised diet with failure to lose more than 10% excess weight. I am concerned because my doctor has put me on Phentermine to make sure I keep losing for my last 3 months of dieting. I have been on Phentermine a couple of times before and lost fairly large numbers on it, like 40 in the first month and 15-20 from there on out. Anyone out there that has gone thru the process that has that insurance requirement lost huge numbers? I'm just afraid if I lose too much it won't be covered anymore.

I went for my 3rd monthly weigh in yesterday. It wasn't as pretty as i was expecting, i actually gained this month. :/ I have 3 more months until I can finally submit to insurance and 1 month to get my butt in shape and start going down again. I wish the next 3 months would come and go. I found out recently that after my surgery is done my family is moving to the beach. Going to be starting over all the way around and I can't wait!

I'm 22. I haven't told everyone about getting the surgery done yet. Only my close family and a couple of friends know about it because I don't want to be talked out of it by bad feedback. I'm still in the process of trying to get everything done to meet with the surgeon. So far all my weight loss records for 6 months have been filled out but not send yet and I've have my psychological evaluation.

What did or are you going to do to celebrate this live changing event?
lacifer90 replied to MOMW's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I've been thinking about this for awhile. I have become a slight tattoo addict, I have 5 so far. When I get to whatever my final goal may end up being, I'm going to get my back fully done in butterfly wings. Again with butterflies lol -
I think I am finally done with everything I need to do before my info gets sent to insurance and I go to meet with my surgeon. All of my records are suppose to be in Nashville and I had my psych eval yesterday. The psych was nowhere near as bad as I had expected, I was there less than 2 hours and he was extremely supportive of my decision. I hope to only move forward from here. My PCP said she wanted to try to get me in to have surgery by March and it is finally looking like that could possibly be reality. SUPER EXCITED NOW!!!

Thanks. I'll check those out and see what I can find.

Did you find your samples online? I've tried to find samples but haven't had much luck.

I'm right there with you. I don't even have my date yet but in my mind I'm already at goal. For the past two weeks all I've done is look at clothes and dream about how I'm going to change. Lol
