Okay, here it goes: I was sleeved in February, 2013. I had no post surgical issues, and I initially lost 75 lbs. in just over three months. I felt amazing!! Then, my father passed away very suddenly and unexpectedly. To say it sent me on an emotional rollercoaster would be a complete understatement. I have lost a total of 85 lbs., but the last five have been bouncing on and off of me for the past six months. I am beyond frustrated. I know I haven't been doing what needs to be done: eating small, high Protein meals throughout the day, combined with exercise. I'm to the point where I can pretty much eat anything I want (and do), even though it occasionally puts me so full that I am way uncomfortable - I know all this is contributing to my massive stall. So, I try to pump up my exercise level by doing Zumba three to four times per week - unfortunately, I inevitably get sidelined with aching joints and injury, and spend the next four to five days recovering. I am so deeply disappointed and disgusted with myself. I went through so much to have this surgery, and now it feels like my sleeve is completely stretched out. I have been dealing with depression and grieving issues (as well as all the economic stress my father left behind for my mother), especially with the holiday's fast approaching. I need a kick start - something to get me back on track. I don't know if I should just go back to liquids for a few days and/or weeks, or if I should just do Protein shakes or some type of pouch reset (I came across this on the internet, but it would only allow me to see the actual Pouch Reset Plan once it charged me an access fee). If there is anyone out there that has gone through this, or could give me some advice as to how I can get back on track and back to losing, I would really appreciate anything you have to offer (the good, the bad and the ugly). I still weight about 308 lbs., so I have quite a ways to go to get to goal. I know I have no one to blame for where I'm at, except me. And I know I need to get back to what I was doing, post-surgery. I'm just having difficulty getting my mind back to that place, and I would really appreciate some help. Thanks for your time. ~ Danielle

I just paid off my credit plan - no, it's not based on credit (which worked great for me!). Dr. Aceves and his people are SUPER easy to deal with. LOVE them -
FEBRUARY SLEEVERS 2013....how you doing after you've been Sleeved
condanchri replied to DivaNurse's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I was sleeved on 2/5, and I just entered my whole foods stage yesterday - yay!! My first food was broiled tilapia with a little salad (so nice to be able to use my teeth again!!). I've lost 39 pounds since my surgery, and I'm feeling pretty good. I definitely feel a bit more energy by taking in my nutrients from whole foods. I'm planning on picking up my exercise routine on Monday (have been walking a bit, but feeling ready for more). All in all, life is great!! -
Dr.Aceves and staff
condanchri replied to albertamom's topic in Mexico & Self-Pay Weight Loss Surgery
As of today, I have lost 34lbs, and I am 25 days post op (I was sleeved February 5th). I lost a LOT of water weight within the first week. Since then, I've had a few stalls a my body adjusts to this new lifestyle, but I am very happy with my results thus far. -
Dr.Aceves and staff
condanchri replied to albertamom's topic in Mexico & Self-Pay Weight Loss Surgery
Dr. Aceves is so good that if I had any type of complication, I would not hesitate to fly back to him to fix me. Prior to surgery, I found out that my insurance would cover any post surgery complication here in the states. However, at this point, the surgeon I trust most with my body is Dr. Aceves. I used to have a lapband, but I had it removed 4 years ago. Dr. Aceves went in and removed all of my scarring from my prior banding (which should have been removed by the US doctor who took my lapband out) before beginning to do my sleeve. He said I really made him work! Yet, he did not charge me anything extra - he did a fantastic job. I trust him completely. And I really appreciated and enjoyed staying at the hospital for my recovery. The hospital was really nice and super clean. -

Love them, and love their whole staff!!! It really was a great experience. Congratulations on your sleeve!! -
I'm headed to the airport, on my way to San Diego, with a final destination of Mexicali!!! I'm scared, excited, nervous and tired (didn't get much sleep) all at once!! Wish me luck
-
I could have sworn Dr. Aceves told me I could begin lightly working out when I got back home. So, yesterday morning, I went to the gym and did the elliptical trainer for 20 minutes on the lowest level (I am 7 days post op). Today, I feel like crap - super tired, no energy, etc. I happen to peruse the post op info I was given, and it says to wait until at least 4 weeks post op before exercising!!! I know I was a bit loopy down in Mexico when I spoke with Dr. Aceves about this, so I must have heard him wrong - have I totally screwed myself up? I'm worried that I've put myself at high risk for a leak. Any help appreciated.

No throwing up, pain or fever. I will contact my doc tomorrow - thanks for your response

Sorry for all my typos!!

I was like you, except in the back of my mind I kept thinking Aceves. The money worried me, bit what worried me more was what would happen AFTER my surgery (follow up, piece of mind knowing my sleeve was done in the best possible way, etc.). I agonized over my decision. In the end, I went with Aceves because I just felt I was worth it. Yes he is more $$, and that can't with for everyone. I wish you the best of luck in madding your final decision. I was just sleeved 7 days ago, so message me Iif you have any questions.

day 7 i am hungry and i hate the protien drink
condanchri replied to chicomoni's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Here's the thing: if you are on the clear liquid part of the post op plan (of which I am as well, until I hit at least day 10 post op), then the hot chocolate idea won't work because it is not a clear liquid. It sounds delicious, and I'm totally wanting some sugar-free hot chocolate about now, but my doc was very specific in that, for the first 10 days, I can only consume things that are see through (broth, Jello, Isopure, tea, etc.). Maybe I'm wrong, or maybe your doc/nut gave you different instructions. Just wanted to bring it up, because you are pretty new out of surgery (I am only 5 days out myself). I totally understand where you are coming from though. I hit a roadblock with broth today - all of a sudden, the smell of it alone was just making me ill. Think I need a bit of a break from it . I'm having difficulty getting enough Protein in, as well as anything else down. Everything feels very tight for me, and it's frustrating to try and get the water/protein in, but come up short because I simply can't get it down any faster. Okay, enough complaining. Best of luck to you! -
Just okay. Definitely not 100%. I'm trying hard to get my fluids in (and falling short). Everything is just so tight, I'm finding it hard to get anything . down. I keep hoping each day it will get better (I know it will). Trying to keep my spirits up. Thank you for asking.

I was sleeved yesterday afternoon. I have been fighting throwing up all night long. Seems like every two hours, I literally vomit a bit in my mouth (sorry if this is tmi), and then swallow it back down. I was just sound asleep, my mouth filled with bile/acid, then it went back down (waking me up). The nurse says that this can happen, and not to worry. Has this happened to anyone??? I'm so tired cuz I can't seen to get more than 2 hrs sleep.
-
Okay, I realize that I am NEWLY post op (sleeved yesterday afternoon), but I'm hoping someone can hero: every two hours or so, I have been vomiting in my mouth and swallowing it back down. I was just sound asleep, my mouth filled with acid/bile, and while waking me up at the same time, I swallowed it back down. They are giving me anti-nausea meds, but the nurse says this can happen, not a problem. Has anyone else had this happen?

important question

No, I asked for an acid reducer but they said no. Maybe it was to soon from surgery. Maybe today. I am feeling slightly better. Thank you for the responses -
important question
condanchri replied to condanchri's topic in Mexico & Self-Pay Weight Loss Surgery
I am getting nausea meds. Keeping eyes on the prize -i like that when it happens, i get up and walk a bit. Hope it goes away soon! -
I had my surgery this afternoon (didn't think about how excruciating the wait would be when you don't go first!! Lol). In talking with Dr. Aceves.tonight, he said that I had a large amount of scar tissue on my stomach from my former lap band (got it in 2004, had it removed in 2008 because it was ruining my life). He said I made him work really hard during my surgery, because he released all the scar tissue, then removed it before actually making my sleeve. He said that not all surgeons take the time to do that. I am so overjoyed in choosing Dr. Aceves. I am hanging in there - the first day is the worst. Thank you so much for ALL the wonderful wishes of luck and positive thoughts that have been coming my way

Yep, I'm gong on my own (I was supposed to have my mom with me, but my dad got sick this weekend). Guess that's why I'm a bit nervous.

Any February Sleevers 2013
condanchri replied to DeeJack08's topic in Mexico & Self-Pay Weight Loss Surgery
February 5th for me, with Dr. Aceves. I'm excited, nervous, scared and anxious - alternating between all feelings through out the day. I had the band put in in TJ eight years ago, but I've had it out now for four years. I'm ready for this!! -
I feel your pain!! A few years back, I was at a friend's house when I broke their toilet!!!! Water EVERYWHERE!! I have never been so embarrassed in all my life - and it was the last time I was at that friend's house. Just know that you are on the right path, and you will succeed!!
-
Well, I took the leap!! I'm scheduled for sleeve surgery with Dr. Aceves for February 5th. I'll be going down on my own - anyone else coming to Mexicali during this tine? I've never done something like this on my own, but I'm looking forward to some 'alone time' - with a hubby and the kiddos, it doesn't come along very often :-).

Going to Mexico alone
condanchri replied to coexist23's topic in Mexico & Self-Pay Weight Loss Surgery
I'm scheduled for surgery on February 5th with Dr. Aceves, and I'm going alone. I have a friend who's offered to accompany me, but I figure some.alone time while recuperating will be a good thing :-). -
I find it interesting that you joined this site on Jan. 8th, posted your story on Jan. 9th, and have no information on your profile. Maybe I'm just suspicious by nature. I know that sometimes people who work for a doctor have been known to post this type of thing in order to drum up business. Don't mean to offend anyone, just trying to get to the truth (I haven't heard of Dr. Illan before reading this post).
