Tips to fight off craving and over eating needed
Oliver's Mom replied to Zen's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
The first two months I didn't have any of my pre-op 'problem' foods (chips) in the house. Now I will buy the individual little bags for my husband and I am not interested in them at all. I have made Protein icecream using recipes from The World According to Eggface blog, and baked some mini protein muffins. So when I want something sweet I just have a serving of the ice cream or two mini muffins. Sometimes I will paint my fingernails if I'm bored - then I can't use my fingers for a while for them to dry. By then, any cravings I might have had have passed. Good luck. -

Bad Experience...

oooohhh, not good. Sending good wishes for all to work out for you. -
I track on MFP too. I do it right after I eat or drink something. In fact, the first time I went to lunch with my daughter I pulled out my phone and tracked after I ate even before the bill came to the table. She was curious and she now uses MFP and so do her friends at the salon she works at. She hasn't had WLS, but wants to eat healthier and drop a few lbs. She's even walking with me. I haven't gone over my daily calories, or carbs since the surgery. It's helpful to me because if I'm low on calories after my dinner meal, I know to have a healthy snack to get me closer to my daily allowance. It's also helpful for when I meet with my NUT every 8 weeks so she can gauge how I'm doing with my food choices, etc.

Tanning Beds
Oliver's Mom replied to BullRidinMomma2011's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I plan to start tanning this week, I want to have tan legs so I don't have to wear any pantyhose when I put on a cute dress or a pair of shorts! I didn't wait on purpose but I'm almost 5 months po. I too love the feel of a tanning bed. -
Bad Experience...

Does that surgeon also work at any other hospital? I used to manage a surgery practice (not WLS) and they had operating privileges at two different hospitals. Just an idea. Good luck. -
New NSV... finally healthy!
Oliver's Mom replied to SweetSaso's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
Congratulations!!! This is a huge NSV!! -
Every doc/program has different guidelines. My doc & NUT says 1 year. Not a problem for me.

So very very sad......and frightening. I don't think I could ever imagine why and how someone could do any act like this. My mind just doesn't work that way. An 8 year old boy, who just had run out to hug his dad who was running the marathon, than ran back to be with his mother & sister....he's now gone. How could that possible make sense? My heart and prayers are with all of those affected by this crime. Those killed, hurt, the families of those folks, those who witnessed the devastation either by being there or seeing it on film, the first responders, those who ran toward the blast (even before knowing if there would be any others, and this was) the strangers helping strangers, the man, Carlos Arrendondo, who lost his Marine son in Irag in 2004,he was a spectator who rushed to the side of a young man who had lost both his legs tying tourniquets with a ripped tee shirt and wheeling him past the finish line to an ambulance - sending showers of Reiki healing, light and love. I have to believe that we as good people of the world far outnumber those who do evil. I have to believe that. I have to.

meltdown at the grocery store!
Oliver's Mom replied to michelle4873's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Oooohhhh, sweetie. It is all OK, such big changes taking place. Forgive yourself - it's all normal. I had a meltdown in Walmart shortly after I had my surgery - my husband was taking W A Y too long to just buy a darn mount for our new TV. It should not take 1 1/2 hours - and I lost it. I was tired, needed to have a shake and all emotional. I am 4 1/2 months out now from surgery and it gets better - so much better. I am loving my life, my sleeve, exercising (never thought I would ever say that!!) I've settled into a new way of cooking and eating. I, by choice, don't eat Pasta, rice, potatoes, bread - so I just make a single serving of the carb item for him for dinner and he eats the Protein & veggies that I eat. Obviously he eats more of each but it's working. Be kind to yourself, you have been through a lot and bravo to you!!! This will all be a humorous memory soon enough. Keep up the great work. -
experiencing left arm numbness
Oliver's Mom replied to sleeveme11's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi, I would say call your doc - but I had shoulder pain (left side) and some tingling in the arm. It was apparently the positioning of my arm during surgery. Good luck -
Congratulations!!

I cook a lot of fish, shellfish, chicken and meals with ground turkey. I have a small amount of veggies with it, or I top a small salad with the shellfish or chicken. I just add a potato or rice or noodle for my husband to eat. Last night I made a roasted pork loin, and I had it with some roasted squash. I always make sure I have a 'dipping sauce' for myself made with Greek yogurt and seasonings. I find it helpful to dip my small bites of protein in the sauce - makes it moist and easier to eat for me. I also buy chicken meatballs at Trader Joe's (they're tasty, and easy to heat up) I still can't eat beef - just won't go down so I will pop 4 TJ meatballs in the microwave and I'll eat those when I cook beef for my DH. I've made chicken, broccoli, & ziti for him, and I only eat the chicken & broccoli. We live in a seaside town - a little fishing village (Marblehead, MA) so we do eat a lot of fish. Shrimp and crablegs and lobster are easy to eat and delicious to boot! Except for the carbs for me, I feel like I cook & eat a lot of the same stuff I cooked prior to surgery. I haven't had, potatoes, pasta, rice, or bread since the surgery. And for a former carb-a-holic I don't miss any of it one bit. I too love the recipes on theworldaccordingtoeggface blog and will check out emily bites as mentioned above. Good luck!

All of my December sleevers...
Oliver's Mom replied to blkdiamond377's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I am still losing s l o w l y too!! Then this am when I weighed myself - I had lost a pound overnight. I am just keeping along the path, exercising regularly (6-9 times per week), following my food plan, keeping the water & protein going in. I just figure it will come off at the rate my body determines. -
You have every right to be proud!!! And it seems like you have the right mindset too!! Congrats.

BTW, I love your outfit, really cute, and I love colors. Keep up the good work. -
Puree Time Up and Coming...
Oliver's Mom replied to AmandaRaeLeo's topic in Post-op Diets and Questions
I ate pureed cottage cheese! Applesauce with some protein powder added. Soups like PdxMan said. Turkey chili and scrambled eggs with a little melted cheese. These all got me thru the pureed stage. -
Congratulations!!!! He sounds like a romantic guy AND he has excellent taste in jewelry! What wonderful news. Good luck with all of your lifelong changes you'll be making.

How do you deal with sabotage and negativity from others?
Oliver's Mom replied to DecoGirl's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
What an awful experience for you. You should change doctors. Doyou really want this person to be the one offering you medical opinions about other things you would be seeing her for? I would change doctors, THEN write her and the practice why you have changed providers. I was in medical practice management for 24 years, and if I ever received a letter regardng a physician's mistreatment of a patient -without hesitation I addressed it with the partners and the offending doc. Just because she had an MD after her name does not mean she is caring or compassionate or even learned in WLS. You know what they call the person who graduates last in their medical class????? Doctor!!!! You have done so amazingly well - don't let this doctor derail your efforts. You've seen her once, get a new doc and get away from this one. Keep your chin up girl and rock that sleeve. -
proudgrammy is proud!

I was never really a soda drinker. Maybe once or twice a month. My nutritionist told me to never drink it again. For me that won't be an issue. I would ask you NUT or doc what their protocol is. Good luck!!
