    Surgery tomorrow! Dec 19th!

Good luck! You will do just fine. The weight will come off, just remember it is one tool in your toolbox for weightloss. Follow the guidelines your medical team gives you for food, vitamins and exercise and you will be amazed at how the weight comes off. Breathe, once you get to the hospital, you're busy, then you get a mild sedative and you're relaxed. Taken into the OR and the next thing you remember is waking up in recovery! Sending good thoughts and positive energy your way.
  3. I too like My fitness pal. The nutritionist at my pre-op program told us about it and I've been using it since September. I just had my surgery 2 weeks ago - very helpful tracking protein, fats, carbs & calories.
  4. Ha ha ha my husband and I were just talking about this last night-I was always the one turning the heat down, he would add the extra blanket. Now our roles are reversed.......I'm just down 30 lbs. Not complaining tho!

    Feeling a little glum.....

Thank you! It's helpful to know this is normal. Very helpful. :-)
  6. Today's my 2 week anniversary. All has gone and continues to go well - but for some unknown reason today I feel a little 'blue'. In the past I would self soothe with snacking (crunchy things like chips or popcorn) . I'm not craving any of that food but just feeling at odds with how to deal with the feelings without my old crutch. Since I started my journey I have lost 30 lbs but more importantly, I am off my diabetes medications and only take 1/2 of one of my HBP meds. Has anyone else had some feelings of sadness following their surgery? Maybe its the general feeling of the country following the tragic attack in CT, maybe I'm tired, maybe it's a normal post op feeling, maybe a combo of all three..... nice to have a place to vent with people who have been through the same thing.

    Who else was Dec 3?!

I too was sleeved on Dec 3rd. Feeling great, still tire easily, but gets better every day. How are you doing? I'm in the mushy food stage and AMAZED at how little food makes me full. Best thing ever - no more diabetes meds and HBP meds down to 1/2 a pill per day!! Looking forward to this journey, feels like an adventure.

    Soft/Mushy Food Stage

I like scrambled egg with some LF cheese. My 'mushy' stage doesn't include tuna ( I am looking forward to that!!) Also, I found some great ideas at www.theworldaccordingtoeggface.com she has some wonderful recipes and tips.

    Anyone From New England?

I'm from Marblehead, MA. I'm 12 days post op. Feeling great - my surgeon was Dr. Benedetto. LOVE him!! He's a straight shooter - no sugar coating things, has strict rules, but he's an amazing surgeon and caring and compassionate. I got a hug on my post op visit on Tuesday. This is one of the best decisions I have ever made in my life. I am off all my diabetes meds, and only taking a 1/2 of one of my HBP meds. I was taking 20 pills a day pre-surgery and now 3 1/2 pills a day (plus my vites of course) Dr. B has you take omeprazole for 6 months post op and my high cholesterol med might be discontinued when I see my PCP on Friday. Since September (when I started the process) to today I have lost 29 lbs. Great side effect. I feel fabulous. Went for a walk with my hubby today for an hour & 1/2 - felt a little tired but good on return home. So happy to see fellow New Englanders on here.
  11. My doctor has you go on a liquid diet for 2 weeks pre-op. I did have a 'last supper' before I started the liquid diet. I know I won't be eating fried seafood (live in MA on the coast) again, so I had a last supper of fried clams! It tasted good, but because I had been eating low fat, low carb before then - it didn't sit well. Good luck!

    Recovery time, nausea, and air?

The staff had me up & walking the evening of my surgery (Dec 3rd - 9:30am, walking by 5:00 pm). I have not had any nausea or vomiting. No gas pains either. I'm surprised with how little discomfort I have felt. Just really at the site of my drain and that went away when the drain was removed. A little tenderness on the left side, so I just prop a pillow against my stomach when I sleep on my right side, same technique I used when I was pregnant. You will be fine, make sure you walk. I tried to move around every hour I was awake, even if just for 5 or 10 minutes. I think it makes a difference. Good luck, keep us posted
  13. I still have it too! My surgeon said it is normal, most of the 'work' is done on the left side (I had a hernia repair at the same time) Each day it gets a little less. I'm 9 days out. Had my drain removed yesterday which l\helped lessen the discomfort a LOT. good luck

All i want for Christmas is... (join in)

All I want for Christmas is : 1) to enjoy being with my family 2) realize this is the last Christmas I refuse to let my husband buy me clothes (surgery was Dec 3rd) 3) celebrate the control I took of my life by having the surgery

    Sleeved yesterday!

You will feel better. Remember that with anything it takes time to adjust. Sip, sip, sip take it slow. Be gentle with yourself. Do the best you can and you will see that each day it is a little better. Before you know it, this phase will be in the past. I'm only a week out from my surgery so not an expert, but after having spent 27 years in health care I do know that you need to be gentle with yourself. Don't fret, just do the best you can each day. Hang in there.
  16. Good luck, you will do great!

    Sleeved 12/3/12

I just had my sleeve done on Dec 3rd. After a few days, I'm able to drink 3 Carnation sugar free Essential with a cup of Lactaid milk per day. In only one of my 3'shakes' I add a scoop of protein powder. That brings me to the 60+ grams of protein per day. I am off all of my diabetes meds (type II) and only take 1/2 of one of my meds for HBP. I feel great - very minimal discomfort from the beginning. Looking forward to my post-op appt with my surgeon on Tuesday to have my drain removed.
