    no longer morbidly obese

30 is obese. 35 is severely obese and 40+ is morbidly obese. you can use a chart or roughly: 702*(weight in pounds)/(height in inches squared) so 279 for 5 foot 10 is (702*279)/4900 = 40 the 702 is there because BMI originally in metric units and the 702 used when doing lbs and inches instead.

PEOPLE WHO ONLY DID 3 day liquid pre op diet

I do think that 35 would be a better cutoff for insurance companies to pay and maybe 30 with co-morbidities. and if people at 30 BMI want to investigate and self pay or have a family history of obesity/diabetes sure it should be an option for insurance to pay as well. it is an elective operation so people should make their own choices. if I had 80% of my stomach out at age 27 when I was at 30 BMI then maybe I would have been better off. I think most people just want to show concern not negativity as many of us may have a BMI near 30 as a goal. (myself included - from a 44) it is a serious operation. at best it is live changing and wonderful and sadly at worse there can be deathly consequences and I am sure anyone who has posted on here has given it much serious consideration. the reactions on the thread were out if concern I believe not judgement but as many things on the Internet behind these screens that aspect gets lost in translation to digital. and to answer the initial question, I lost 12 pounds on 10 Day liquid diet. a 3 day would probably be 5 lbs but low BMIers probably not as much. my insurance approved my surgery for a year timeframe. they didn't ask my weight again on surgery day to approve or rescind it. and people self paying then should not be an issue. as for hunger. I am 18 days out and have none. but I *never* needed hunger to eat and this surgery doesn't fix that. it is difficult not to have my "friend" to help me overcome stressful situations. it is a bit of a mourning process to give up my comfort food. it is nice not to be hungry but now I don't know when to eat and have to guess or follow rules when to stop. for me, it will be a long learning process like a baby taking solids first time but with a lot more emotional baggage. it is very introspective process.

march sleevers the good and the bad

I was sleeved on march 13 and in 17 days I am down 15 lbs Recovery has been pretty easy. I went back to work on March 18th. I eat about 400-500 cals a day. I use premiere Protein shakes to augment protein. I do have trouble getting in all liquids but is getting better every day.
  4. I noticed my watch was a little looser. woohoo it was slipping around a bit! hey gotta take NSVs where you can get them.

    Various rants and raves

Premier Protein shakes (at SAMs club, Walmart, Costco) are the best and have 30g protein. I have 1 a day and then I at least have 30g in although I am only 2 weeks out so I split over 2 or 3 "meals"

    Fab 40's shout out

I am 47, 4 kids (21,19,13,11) and married for 23 years. was sleeved on march 13 in NJ and am down 13 lbs in 15 days and 30 overall since Xmas. I am in puréed stage now but 2 tsp make me stuffed! I glad I found this group as I always feel so much older than the many 20-something's getting sleeved. As for skin, 3 of my babies were well over 9 lbs and one was 11-11 (no c-sects!) so I am already resigned to being saggy everywhere and having slinkys for boobs!

    Any March Sleevers?

I am at 2 weeks post op. it has been pretty easy. went back to work after 5 days. had some trouble with liquids at first. could not drink much water so drank diet snapple (on plan). now I can drink water. I need to work on protein. only getting about 40 a day but I have a lot of restriction it seems to can only eat so much. thank goodness for premiere protein shakes at SAMs. but even those I split over into 3 to finish one. just started puréed today. could only eat 1 oz and was stuffed. I am now getting about 450-500 cals a day. oh and btw down 12 pounds in those 2 weeks. not a crazy amount like some people get but I am very happy. it will probably slow as I can eat more.

    Burping

I figured out that it was drinking water that was causing the frequent and painful burping. But I am able to drink iced tea, light cranberry juice, lemonade etc with no problems. I will keep trying to see if water gets easier but just wanted to say that you may want to try other fluids besides water if painful or frequent burping is impeding fluid intake.

    Sleeved 3/18 - a bit overwhelmed

I was sleeved on march 13 and had real trouble drinking the water so you know what - I am drinking diet snapple and diet cranberry juice and water downed Gatorade instead. water hurt to drink. burping, gas and a pain going down and right after. I so try it again each day to see if it's better but not yet. so I use other drinks and it's better than dehydration. (pee was starting to look dark till I found this solution. ). I also strain real soups to drink the broth. better than straight broth and my kids eat the noodles, etc.

    Disability?

I took 3 sick days. my surgery on Wednesday and back to work Monday following. I have a desk job. I figure if I had complications then i would then apply for disability (after 5 days of sick) but did not need to. everyone reacts different though so do what is best for you. disability may pay only portion of pay so vacation pay may be better.

    Time off work for surgery

I have a desk job. I was sleeved on Wednesday march 13. Used 3 sick days for that day and 2 after and went back to work on Monday march 18th and worked 12 hours that day. Am a little tired but really was no problem going back. Keeps mind off food although no hunger so have to remember to think about it or will feel faint. Eat by the clock. Or drink since no solids for 1 more week for me.
  12. do you exercise because that can work a lot to improve sugar, triglycerides, cholesterol etc if you do it almost everyday for 30minutes but it has to be consistent.

    My Personal Experiment

Thank you for sharing. I was sleeved on the 13th. Gas is a killer no matter what I do. I have 10 burps for every sip of water. I hope it gets better soon. Keep us posted on how it goes. I too have no hunger though miss food but I know it will hurt me so can easily abstain. Take care!

    Couple of random questions..

I never had c section but my last baby was natural at 11 lbs 11oz and that was very painful. I had this surgery Wednesday and the surgery pain is minimal and get good meds for it. I have not had nausea but do have gas when trying to drink my ounce of liquid in half hour. It sometimes refers to the left shoulder and is ver painful. I have a heating pad on it now and that helps a lot. Now at home I can take loratab or Motrin for pain but anything I swallow can cause the referred pain again a so aim try not to. Hoping sleeve starts to tolerate without gas soon!

    Burping

Hi. Just sleeved on Wednesday. I have burping marathons after tiniest sip of Water. I have been walking and tried gas x strips but they only make me burp even more. It is so much I can only sip about an ounce of water in a couple hours. Please tell me this will go away. I tried took some loratab to give me a rest. Funny thing is I feel great upon awakening but at that first sip I am miserable. Any ideas or just let me know that 2 days is too short and this will not plague me forever. At this rate I will get dehydrated but the burping/gas is so difficult I cannot sip. Thanks for letting me rant. I aAm usually not a complainer!

    March Sleevers Where are You

March 13th in Princeton NJ. I have preop appt at hospital and surgeon Feb 14. Supposedly this surgeon does not use pre op diet on women - only on men who have generally more visceral weight. Says women's weight is not focused as much so liver shrinking not as necessary. I am doing my own pre op "try to be healthily and track diet" though and am down 10 lbs since Christmas. Perhaps March sleevers would like to friend me on MFP. My ID there is kenmj11 Eileen
