  1. I was 3 months from surgery yesterday and have averages 3 lbs a week counting the first 2 fast weeks but is more like 2 a week in reality. my SW was 295 and CW is 242. my highest ever last year was 315 and my before picture represents that. I like the 2 pound a week average. my surgeon tells me to try to lose 55 more in the next 6 months. I hope I can! I am 5-10 and that would put me at 198 and I could live with that! Eileen

    Not so supportive boyfriend...

my husband said the same thing. just diet and exercise. (he's skinny) but I told him my research and the fact that only 3% of people who lose significant amount of weight manage to keep it off. our bodies fight against it by making us hungry at that point. it's not all in our head. every time you diet ghrelin levels go up so you are even hungrier. it is like torture! but with weight loss surgery the ghrelin levels stay pretty flat. google it. there are a lot of studies. I want it to work this time and by that I mean have a better chance to keep it off! Regarding Jared - he lost weight when around 20 years old and he is now 200 lbs from 400 previously. he did not have 35 years of yoyo and ghrelin increasing with every diet and 4 kids, mortgage debt, job insecurity. the odds are better when you are younger and not on your 200th diet , and even then Jared is an exception.
  3. I am 5-10 but more of a pear. I am 255 now which is 12 weeks after surgery. I was 295 at surgery. I am a comfortable (loose) 1X in shirts now and 18 in pants. since your starting below me you will look and feel awesome so soon! being tall helps a lot.

is there coffee in my future?

update: about 3 weeks after post above and I can now drink coffee and no excessive acid or burping! thank goodness. I do like cream in it though so it's costs me a lot of calories so have to limit for that reason. but I am glad it is even possible! (11 weeks out now)

    3 weeks out eating about 1200 cal/day

at 3 weeks I was lucky to get in 500 because mostly liquid and very small amounts. but everyone's sleeve is different in what it can hold. my doctor never gave a calorie goal. however the office wants us to get protein from real food not shakes as much as possible because solid food is where the restriction works. I was able to get upto 800 calories at 4-5 weeks and upto 1200 at about 8-9 weeks and that's where I'm staying. I eat about 5 times a day. I lose about 2-3 lbs a week with this regimen. I do minimum of 60-70 protein a day and try to keep sugar under 40 and overall carbs under 100. many here are more strict but I need to live this plan forever so that's how I work it.

    Annoyed with PCP

find another PCP, have your records transferred. it is important to be in synch with your PCP and their philosophy and work as a team. it's no wonder all her bariatric patients gain the weight back when faced with such a negative influence!

3 Mo Post - Eating Problems

I am about 10 weeks out and dense protein is still very difficult for me but it is getting slowly better. I cut it into teeny bites and chew very slowly. I still cannot get more than 2 ounces in. so I eat things like chili and ground meat instead. my doc says not to worry just go back to earlier stage and get protein that way. I also use premier bars (30 g each) every couple days. even Special K has protein version now and fiber plus protein bars have 10.

    Two Month before after

I was sleeved on Mar 13 2013 and surgery weight was 295. my highest was 315 around Christmas which is my overall starting weight. I am 5-10 so that helps hide the weight! my worse BMI was 45 and now it's about 38 My surgery was a breeze and I was back at work in 5 days a little tired but I have a desk job. And yes I am much happier now! I have to keep it going and your support helps. Thanks!

is it just me.. and when?

was allowed any food at 6 weeks but told it would be trial an error. was told that I probably wouldn't be able to eat salad for 6 months though I could try. also told that breads would be difficult as they can puff up and fill you up. I have had small bites of bread and small bites of veggies but have to use my teeth to purée! I am two months out only though.

How much weight loss to expect?

Surgery Weight 295. DoS 03/13/13 Height 5'10" BMI: start 42.4 current 37.7 Current weight on 5/12/13 is 263. 32 lbs down in 2 months. I am not super fast but I am steady and so far no stalls. (knock on wood) I have exercised 2-3 times a week mostly walking or Water aerobics but nothing heavy duty. as my weight drops I want to start a walk/jog plan which I just started a bit today. My highest weight btw was 315 45 BMI back around December 2012.

    Anyone feeling my pain?

I am 2 months out and have extreme difficulty with solid protein (chicken steak lunch meat etc). one ounce will cause constant burping and twice I have spit up. My surgeon and Nut said not too worry. if I cannot tolerate it then eat softer protein like beef chili, ground turkey or beef etc. i can manage that just fine. He said that sooner or later will be able to eat a lot more so take advantage of this time when you can't to lose as much weight as possible. of course if solid stuff makes you burp and throw up then stop eating it and then you will have room to get in fluids. I also just bought premier Bars at SAMs club to help supplement and also liquid egg white. the white has the most protein and if I leave out yoke I can fit more. it is pasteurized so can be added to drinks if desired like "orange Julius type smoothies". I also bought black bean burgers there and look forward to trying that. At 4 weeks I was mostly on mushy anyway and the NUT always said if next stage doesn't work just stay in current stage longer and try again a week later. it may be frustrating to stay on soft or shakes but it will only be temporary. you are doing so great. just be a little more patient and tolerance will come in time. I am 2 months out and 32 pounds down so be very happy with 50 in less than a month!

is there coffee in my future?

I am allowed coffee however I find I cannot tolerate it. it tastes bad and gives me heartburn almost immediately. this is the only bad consequence of the sleeve for me. the whole experience of relaxing with a cup is gone. sure I can do tea or even hot cocoa but it's not the same. I am hopeful it is only temporary and in 6 -12 months I can have some again. oh well. this sleeve is not for wimps!

    liquid intake

I had really hard time with water too. I drank a lot of water pre surgery but one sip would be very painful right after surgery. I was starting to get a little dehydrated when I found I could drink diet snapple tea. I dilute it with water and ice. it's my new favorite drink and approved by my doctor. I am 7 weeks out and can drink water now but still not easy.

    Both ends....

easy-peasy had both done at once in 2007 and again in 2012. easiest medical procedures ever. even the prep is not so bad. a bottle of miralax in 64 oz Gatorade. will be harder after sleeve I guess but easy before.

    A helpful tip

I chew every bite till it's liquified. that's the only way I slow down. I also need to time myself between bites. I literally look at the time and wait at least a minute. I am five weeks out and managed an egg and 3/4 of string cheese for dinner tonight. my head wanted the last bite of string cheese but the burping started and that's my signal to stop.

    Where is my March Sleeves?

I was sleeved march 13 (5 weeks tomorrow) and am down 21.5 since surgery and total of 33 since preop.

    3/12 sleever

I was sleeved on mar 13 and down 18. I was hoping for about 25 in the first month but I'll take it! and our bodies are so different have to stick to plan and let the body decide when it's ready to shed. I lost steadily for 2 weeks. now it seesaws back and forth but generally in downward progression so that's what counts.

    Tall Sleevers? 6'?

**** Also, I'm not sure if it's because my weight is more spread out or if people are just being nice, but a couple of people were surprised I had the surgery because they thought I didn't need it. I just tell them I could lose 200lbs and still be at a healthy weight. It shocks the pants off them. Does anybody else get that?**** that is so true. my sister-in-law who is same height (5-10) but thin (140) keeps telling me not to lose too much weight. I don't think she realizes I am still twice her weight! I swear when I am 240 shell say how skinny I am and to stop. how come it would be skinny for me but fat for her????
