  1. Woohoo. Love that table. Gives me 10 more pounds. And making me look forward to age 50 in 2 years cause I'll get another 11 pounds. Wooooooohooooooo. I am only 1 pound away from that now. I wonder if I can lose 12 to get in the 40-48age range or just wait 2 years!
  2. Forgot to say I am currently US size 14. I fit just barely into a 12 dress pant the other day. I think I will end up an12-14 in most things. People are very surprised I am in the 190s when I tell them. They think I look thinner than I did 25 years ago when I got married (I was 174). Maybe my bones are denser who knows! Or my waist is thicker than it was and is more easily disguised.
  3. Madam reverie - think you noticed before our stats similar I'm 5-10 and now 195 I started at highes weight 315 SW 295 In six months I was down 62 In 1 year I was down another 34 From the surgery weight From my weight chart attached you can see steeper rate of descent in first 6 months and then it slows down. However still was losing about 5 average a month though it was 7-8 for months 7-9 and 2-3 for months 10-12. Now in month 13 it will be around 1-2 a month I have 22 to go to be "normal" BMI. But with my age of 48 and 4 children stretching me all out in the past I have a personal goal of 8 more pounds.

What happens to the girls ?

Unfortunately breast tissue doesn't contain muscle so you can't work it out. When you lose the fat that is also In there with the breast tissue you get deflation. All exercise can do is make the muscle underneath stronger but you will still have the slinkys attached

How do you decide what your Goal Weight is?

I am also 5-10, female, and 48 years old. BMI range is same as yours. I started at 315 and am now 197. Everyone tells me I look skinny. Ha ha. I guess it's all relative. The official guideline is that you are a success if you lose 50% of your excess weight after surgery. So (352-174) = 178 * 0.5 is about 90 lbs. So at least shoot for 260. I think your estimate of 220 is a good goal for you. Better loss than average but not unrealistic. I think the higher starting weight, the higher a realistic goal has to be. You can always readjust the goal lower if you want. That's better than adjusting up! My doctor never gave a goal. He just wanted me to lose the 50% EW. I lost 84% of my excessive weight.

Lost control & feel like a failure!

My pre op diet was only 7 days and included 2 shakes, 1 sensible meal and 2 snacks. Just start again tomorrow and don't let yourself get so starved and you'll be fine. You still have 10 days left and you'll do fine. Remember before you go off the rails again why you are doing this and how important it is to have you liver in the best shape possible.

December 2013 Sleever Pounds Lost Log

I went thru the same battle with onederland. It took about 12 weeks to go from 208 to 199 and stay in onederland. Of course I was 9 months out so things were slowing down. It's as if our body knows how bad we want it so decides to make us really work for it (and don't take it for granted when we get there. Which reminds me to stop making excuses about going to gym today).

    Not Enough Weight Lost?

37lbs in 2 months is exactly what I lost my first 2 months. I am down 116 now a year later. I don't know where you are getting your stats but 37 was a lot to me and my surgeon was very happy with that. It's best not to compare yourself to others but I think you are right on track for YOU. If you are following your surgeons plan then you are doing fine.

    At what size...

That's such a tricky question I don't know if I'll ever think I am thin or normal. I am 5-10 so cannot dream of size 4 or 6 or even10! Even though I'm tall I feel so huge in a 14 compared to all of you. It is body dismorphia because I really don't look bad I think. But my goal weight is also high. Planning on 10 more pounds and getting to 187 which makes my BMI around 27. I thinks it's the best I can do though that 187lbs is still scary high fora woman. Sigh - this body image stuff sucks! I fit is size 12 pants the other day. I think a 12 would be good I used to be 22/24 so that's about half!

    Eating Carbs Post VSG

As others say carbs come last but are not forbidden. Personally I eat 80-120 grams carb a day. Sometimes more. Usually my macros are 40% carb, 30% protein and 30% fat. But the 40% moves to fat% sometimes. I am a year out and have lost 116 lbs. I started to eat 1300 cals by 3-4 months out. I am close to my goal now and losing verrrrryyyyy slowly but it's not due to carbs. I found the most important number to watch is sugar carbs. I don't even count carbs overall whatever they are they are. I count protein (at least 65g) and try to keep sugar carbs at 35g or 25 ideally. If I do tat I don't need to count anything but the 1300 cals overall.

I cried for an obese man

I am 118 lighter because an acquaintance who I see 2 times a year asked me once if I ever considered WLS. At first I was taken aback. it's not pleasant to face the fact that you look like you could use it! She is a healthcare professional and also has a weight issue ( not as much as mine) and it was meant conversationally not as advice. Well I told her Oh no I would never do that... but her question may me ponder it. I did my research and got the sleeve. A year later I saw her and thanked her for bringing it up. I owed her a lot! I hope sometime to return the favor but I also remember how shocked I was she asked me. I guess it would take the right situation and relationship to bring it up. It is a major life change and not easy either. People have to do their own research to see if it's for them. I hope someday I can help someone.

    Uuugggghhhhh!

I think the "retail price" was about $50K for hospital, surgeon etc. But insurance paid $30K after their discounts/contracts etc. I had to pay 20% of the 30K but my max out of pocket per person is 2800 so that's what it cost. Your program should charge no more than the portion they contract with insurance and THEN apply the max 15k. I doubt the other insurance companies for other patients pay the full 50K there has to be an insurance discount.
  16. A little fear is a good thing. It will keep you vigilant. Over confidence is much more dangerous. Just don't let your fear get out of control. Missing the gym for a day or 3 will not make you gain 88 pounds overnight. You just go back on day 4. For myself I do not want to get over obsessed with the gym or my diet choices. I did that before and when I fell off I would get so distraught that my foundation would collapse. This time I go to the gym to be healthy not to punish myself or work off the chips. It is something I need t do to maintain my success. I also allow myself food diversions such as on holidays but then the next day I start a new slate and refuse to feel guilt. I track every good and bad morsel in MFP. I need a plan for life and living and do not want to think of this as an all or nothing. It is much harder to give up chocolate chip cookies or a cheeseburger if I think I will never have one again. I just won't have it "right now". My goal is too be "good" 90% of the time, take advantage of the times my willpower is strong and make superior choices. That will overcome the 10% when I am weak or indulgent. I make that 90% really count. It would be easy to let one bad decision lead to another but like the other poster said live in the moment and make the best choice now. The past is the past.

    18 pounds from Onederland!

it took me about 2 and a half months to go from 208 to Onederland. it went down and back up. I was also 9 months out (now 12) so it was just slower. but I persevered and finally made it. don't be discouraged if it bounced around!

    ONEDERLAND at LAST

Congratulations! I just reached this milestone myself after a long struggle getting below 200. It seems like a dream that I will wake up from! Like you I feel like telling the world and now tell everyone my weight when I tried to hide it before. Now I am proudly 196-199! Now we just need to keep it going. I am 5-10 and want to be in the 180s. What is your goal?

Sweet tooth...did you love sweets before being sleeved?

I could have written this myself! Start in morning you will never stop! I am a sugar addict too. I actually mix fruited Greek yogurt with plain Greek yogurt to make it less sweet and then it does not trigger the cravings. All the protein in it helps keep the sugar at bay too. I never used sugar or sweetener in my coffee thank goodness. I love sweets and can still eat them but they are much more limited. If I have more than 2 spoons of ice cream I feel really sick. I can still eat cookies but I choose peanut butter ones so they have protein and don't make me sick. And only 2! So yes can still have them but I am so pleased that Sleevie helps prevent me from indulging too much. And if I don't start in the morning I don't crave all day because the cravings can still come but they can be managed if I am careful.

What does "full" feel like to you?

I get a pain in my left shoulder if I overdue it. Very uncomfortable. It's referred pain via the phrenic nerve. Otherwise I just eat tll hunger satisfied and learn to take time to avoid that feeling. Burping usually signals it's time to stop. I am a year out.

need some tough love from my fellow vets!

Gabapentin also works for hot flashes. I used that for nerve pain when on chemo and it relieved the hot flashes as well. I prefer the Effexor though because it's extended release and just 1 pill a day. Gabapentin is the precursor of Lyrica and too many pills to remember (but generic so cheaper than Lyrica - though not quite the same drug ). Effexor has a generic too so these aware both non hormonal pretty inexpensive options.
