A thread for people who dont argue, name call, dictate or generally just be nasty.
my3sons replied to AussieLady's topic in The Lounge
I am happy to contribute to a group that is supportive and positive- I have had enough negativity, judgements and "shoulds" all my life- I don't want or need it on this journey. Even though we are all after the goal, and maybe have walked some similar paths, it is for each of us our own unique journey- My surgery is tentatively Feb 7th- start the 2 week pre-op on Wed...getting a little nervous, its kind of hard to wrap my head aroeund the permanency of this decision. Always grateful. -
I lost a bunch of hair 5-6 months after major surgery 18 months ago- it freaked me out but grew back. I am not looking forward to losing it again, however....I do tell myself it is only hair, and many people have lost theirs for more serious reasons than WLS....helps me to keep it in perspective.

Any LGBT or gay friendly folks in the NYC area?
my3sons replied to Kennedy310's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I grew up in Bklyn, living past 35 yrs in central NJ- 30 of them with my partner, we have 3 beautiful boys- Overlook in Summit for my surgery. I find this forum very helpful- though not as active as Obesity Help forum., I am obsessed with prepping for surgery so I follow both! -

I am here in NJ!!! I joined the LGBT forum here- but it is not very active, maybe we can work on changing that. I am having surgery in about a month- looking forward to it...at least today:) -
Pregnant - and fallen off the wagon
my3sons replied to Sleevedmom2be's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Congratulations on the pregnancy!! Talk to your OB about the pregnancy and what you really need nutritionally- talk to your boyfriend about supporting you in healthier choices for you and your child. I am going to have the surgery so I can be a more active mom and live longer (hopefully) for my kids....you are just starting out, don't blow it. Envision you as a fit and healthy and active mom...then put the non-plan food down. -
I filled out a nine page questionnaire they mailed to me, att eh apt we just basically talked about some of the questions. She was most interested in my current support system and my past history of weight loss attempts. I think they are just looking to make sure there are no tendencies to bulimia, anorexia etc. I think they also want to make sure we are realistic about what the surgery can and cannot do. I am sure you will be fine!

There are two things I will share with you to take or leave as you want...my family and my partner are very supportive, hesitant and I think a bit fearful of me having a surgery- but supportive and willing....that being said, I have no expectation that they will ever fully understand what I go through in this body, what the past years of struggles and attempts have really been, or how sure I am of this tool....they love me, but they are not me. I have to keep that in mind because I know I can be overly sensitive sometimes to my weight and ANY comment can land the wrong way on my heart. Take their support, be sure of your motives for surgery, and don't expect them to really fully understand.

I had mine last week, for me it was filling out a nine page questionnaire they sent in the mail - sounds worse than it is....then meeting witht he psychologist to basically go over it. I believe she was most interested in two things...my expectations for waht the sleeve and life was going to be like after surgery. and my past attempts to lose weight. It really was not a big deal. Good Luck!

Hoping for sometime between teh 20-30 of January- about to start my pre=op testing. I find the food funeral term funny- I am sure I will engage in it- some days will be better than others, as long as I am moving in the right direction!
