What comfort items did you take to surgery?
Stef replied to buffythefatslayer's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
I was only staying overnight so I didn't bring a bunch of stuff. Aside from comfy clothes for the trip home I brought some chapstick, my iPad/phone/charger and Bruce the Moose (Teddy-Tech calls him a cough buddy). -

Stef replied to minnie78's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
The residual CO2 bothered me for about a week. I was walking every day but it just wanted to hang around. -
Who is scheduled for Jan 8th? I'm getting nervous
Stef replied to 2013isit's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Jerky is great for the Protein but holy moly the pre-packaged stuff is loaded with sodium. I'm going to look into making some of my own. The last week or so I've worked hard to get my Water, protein and exercise in and I'm dropping about a pound a day now. It's pretty awesome! -
Who is scheduled for Jan 8th? I'm getting nervous
Stef replied to 2013isit's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Definite progress. I had a Hershey's Kiss the other day. One. Who eats just one of those??? Didn't want any more. I haven't craved sweets at all, haven't even been hitting the sugar free popsicles in the freezer lately. Still don't really even feel hungry and have to remind myself to eat so I get in the protein/calories I need. It's a little weird, for sure. -
Doctor gave me Anti-Nausea med to take 3hrs before surgery.. anyone know if this helps?
Stef replied to Karishero's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had emend as well. One capsule two hours before surgery and I never had any nausea post-op. -
Outstanding Kevin! I know how you feel, I'm a three now after having lost just shy of 50 pounds. It only gets better!!!

It's *really* easy to take in too much liquid at one go using a straw, and boy it's not a pleasant feeling at all. If you keep it in your mind to take small sips you'll be ok, but that one time you forget, yowza!

How to get in all the food and liquid after surgery?
Stef replied to FatMamaw's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Here's the schedule my dietician gave us for our 3 week post-op diet. It was liquids only so eating didn't interfere with the schedule at all. Don't know when your surgery was so I'm not sure if this applies to your particular situation. You might want to put that info in your profile or signature so people have a better understanding where you are when offering advice 8:00 am 2 oz. high Protein supplement 8:15 am 2+ oz. Water 8:30 am 2+ oz. unsweetened decaf tea 8:45 am 2+ oz. crystal light 9:00 am 2 oz. high protein supplement 9:15 am 2+ oz. water 9:30 am 2+ oz. broth 9:45 am 2+ oz. water 10:00 am 2 oz. high protein supplement 10:15 am continue with above schedule. Sip all day long to maintain hydration. That was crazy so what I did was to just portion out what I needed for the day and keep it in view so I knew what I needed to accomplish over the day. The key is you should pretty much always be sipping on some liquid to make sure you hit your numbers. -
I cheated on my pre-op liquid diet

Who are you and what did you do to the real laura-ven???? -
i was diagnosed with gastritis pre op...scared now, should i b?
Stef replied to Karishero's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
If it wasn't safe, your surgeon wouldn't be performing the operation. I was diagnosed with mild gastroenteritis after my endoscopy also and put on 20mg omeprazole and I was told to continue it for 6 months after the surgery. From what I've seen, it's pretty common for us sleevers and not a whole lot to get worried over. -
How fast are you eating? Even though we can only get a few ounces in, it should still take 20 minutes or so for a meal. When I eat fast, I feel it right where you described and if I slow down it subsides pretty quickly.

I was stuck for a week or so until I upped my calories/protein/water then it started coming off again. You need to kick your metabolism out of starvation mode for your body to start processing the fat again. Getting in the Water is the hardest thing for me so I started carrying a bottle with me wherever I went and sipping from it constantly. If it's not right there in front of me I completely space on it during the day. It gets to dinner time and I realize I have only had a Protein shake and maybe a glass of water and it's HARD to make up the difference so late in the day. Drink early and often

Sushi is fish with rice. Sashimi is just fish.

Cutting carbs is what you need to do to shrink the liver. My doc set a max of 20 grams a day (good lord that was tough!). You might not lose a ton of weight, but you will lose the fatty deposits in the liver which is what your surgeon is looking for.

That's not true. JetBlue's seat widths range from 17.8" to 18" depending on the airframe in use, which is near the top of the list for domestic US airlines. Most other airlines are either 17" or 17.2". Only Virgin America has larger seats (19.2" on Airbus A319 and A320 airframes). They also have more legroom than most domestic airlines. Airlines measure legroom by "seat pitch" which is the distance from a spot on one seat to the same spot on the next. Depending on the type of airframe, Jet Blue's seat pitch is between 32" and 38". Most other airlines are 31" or 32" with a few getting to 35" or 36".

Looking for Buddie in Washington Area

Seattle here! -
Yes, the liver lies on top of the stomach and they need to use retractors to move it out of the way to perform the sleeve. No, it's not a scare tactic. If the liver is too large and at risk of damage during retraction then the surgeon can either change a laproscopic procedure to an open procedure (which you DON'T want) or cancel the surgery entirely. It is absolutely 100% in your best interest to follow the low carb diet you're given before surgery to increase the probability of a positive outcome.

They do according to my doc, but some people have problems with them if they're overcooked because they can get a bit rubbery.

Premeire Protein Drinks from Costco - BEST EVER

I thought the Vanilla was cloyingly sweet. Too bad I have a whole case of it (less the one I tried) left -
calories on liquid phase
Stef replied to lrgandwrg's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was told to focus on getting my protein and fluids in and not to worry about calories during the liquid phase. -
How much did you have to pay upfront?
Stef replied to futuresleever's topic in Insurance & Financing
Aside from office visit co-pays, I didn't pay anything up front. -
I couldn't choke down the unjury or Syntrax powders, they all made me gag. My dietician recommended Premier Protein shakes and I''ve been using them exclusively.

What type of fish can I eat a semi large portion?
Stef replied to Iweeny's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
What?!?!?! Thems fightin' words, Iggy! Interesting. I haven't had a ton of fish yet, but the same portion sizes of salmon, tuna and scallops all feel about the same to me. -
Not exactly sure what you're trying to say here, but if you're 2 days post op and you want oatmeal or cream of wheat, I would say that's a bad idea.

Premeire Protein Drinks from Costco - BEST EVER
Stef replied to IMWORTHIT2013's topic in Protein, Vitamins, and Supplements
It's not you, it's Costco. They don't have everything on their site that they carry in the stores. Call your local store and ask if they have them.
