Thanks for all of your support and honesty! I feel like on the main post everyone is constantly talking about how wonderful the Protein shakes are, and staying under 800 calories a day, and being full off a TINY amount of food... that's just not been my journey thus far! I felt very left out until you all and Toni have also confessed that you're hungry, overeating and scared!!! It is weird that I get full a great deal faster. Like tonight at church we had a 4th of July celebration. I had a hotdog (first thing I've eaten that got stuck a little bit by the way), a handfull of chips, cup of ice cream and piece of cake. Sounds like a lot, but it really wasn't. I feel stuffed!!! That's what is so scary because the full feeling is enormous ("Thanksgiving Day" was a great way to describe it!!) That makes me feel like I massively overate... when before surgery I could have eaten twice that much! I know it's going through the band cause Im drinking a swallowing and all is flowing fine. But I agree, fullness is coming sooner and with a vengenece!! My family just brought over my new treadmill and helped me set it up! I haven't really been exercising at all. I live in Mississippi and it's 100 degrees in the day time and hot and sticky at night. The treadmill is right in front of the tv, so maybe I'll get going!! Tomorrow is another day...

I am so envious of so many of you!!! My doc says complete healing doesn't occur til 8 weeks and won't do a fill til then. He said he knows most do it at 6 but he doesn't recommend it. He hasn't had a slip or any complication in over 3 years, so I trust him completely... however... I'M IN BANDSTER HELL!!!! I have NO restriction. I have a food addiction and have NO restriction. I have not felt nausea or vomited at all. Everything passes through the band just fine. I am able to overeat and don't really realize I have til it's done. In restaurants, I have not had more than 1/2 an entree and box the rest... which is much less than before... but still too much. I live in constant (albeit probably irrational) fear that I am going to hurt my band. I know Toni shared the same feelings. We were banded on the 1st of the month so are at 4 1/2 weeks out. Things change. It's discouraging for me to hear that some of you are full after 2 tablespoons of food. I don't get it! We don't have restriction, so how is that possible? Other than occasional pressure in my chest when I need to burp... I wouldn't know the band was there!! I have to live this way 3 1/2 more weeks. I was a self pay also and can't afford to screw up this band. I want to succeed!! But I have a true food addiction, and I believe breaking that is the same as any other addiction. Food is part of our lives. I feel like I should be locked up til my first fill, cause I don't have the will power. I wouldn't send an alcoholic to a bar after the first week of AA!! I wouldn't want a gambling addict to frequently walk through a casino but trust this time he just won't sit down and cave in! I have no signs of problems, slip, etc. I know I'm fine. I just fill like I'm a ticking time bomb... mostly because I've screwed up weight loss so many times, I just can't accept that I've done something that is actually going to work!! I lost 16 pounds during the week before surgery til 2 weeks after surgery. I have crept up 2 pounds since then and fear it will continue to creep up... I feel like a failure already... Before the journey has even begun. I hope this surgery wasn't a huge mistake and waste of money.

mvr, you were already on there.

I agree Toni... we need details!

There are so many of us! June 2007 Bandster Calender.doc
-
CMP, I only had one TINY (less than 1/2 inch) incision in my bra line. I went without the first 6 days (didn't leave the house..lol) then I wore a loose sports bra to my 1 wk doc visit and Walmart... After that, it was pretty much healed. I did put a bandage on it the first time I wore the underwire, but the adhesive took my skin off, and I would have been better off without it!! lol
-
Toni... You are hands down the sweetest person I have ever met on the world wide web! Thank you!
-
Do yall realize we only have 3 days of June Bandsters left to join us in BandLand!!! :embarassed: Do yall realize I have been banded a month!!! :embarassed: Do yall realize one of our own has already had a fill!!! (Toni) :embarassed: :faint:
-
OK... the calender is semi-updated and posted here.. It's a link now (site won't accept the calender format anymore??) http://www.lapbandtalk.com/f93/june-2007-bandster-calender-37160/
-
It's not letting me post the calender in proper form anymore?? So here is the link... it will work just as well... June 2007 Bandster Calender.doc
-
The fill calender isn't gonna happen... Toni got a fill yesterday at 3 1/2 weeks... my first fill is at 8 weeks... All the folks getting banded at the end of the month will probably be in August... I think it would be WAY too difficult (for me anyway) to keep up with and post 3 or more seperate month calenders for fills. On that note... I would like to update the other calender but even it has gotten out of hand! Now that we have all the different threads in the June 2007 subgroup, not everyone is posting in this thread! Soooooo, that makes it very difficult!! I'm going to post a thread in the subgroup where people not on the calender can put their date and I will just post the calender there!! Ahhh... solution!:whoo:

Hi all! I'm starting to get used to those burpy, gasey, days! Some days all goes down just fine... can't really tell I'm banded. Some days (like today) I have the pain in my chest with everybite! It's scary cause you think it's food sitting in the pouch stretching it or putting pressure on the band... but then it happens... the massive burp... and the thought..."Ohhhhhh, that's what it was!" I chew a couple of gas x tabs and it gets better. Just another day in Band-Land!

Hi yall... made it back from Destin! It was great... perfect weather! I had bisque at every dinner, mashed potatoes, soft baked potato mashed up, moist baked fish mashed, crab cakes (those are VERY mushy!) and some crab pasta, also mashed of course... It was the first time in my life that Ive gone to the beach and not had a shrimp! That was weird!!! Oh well, Friday I move to soft regular food THAT I DON'T HAVE TO MASH!!! and I can't wait! Glad everyone is doing well! I think I gained a pound or 2 on vacation... but it was vacation!!!!
-
I'm off to Destin! Talk to ya on Sunday.. be good!! PS - The Campbell's Select (soup in the box) Creamy Portibello Mushroom soup is to die for!!!! Wonderful!
-
First of all, congrats to all the "losers"... everybody is doing great!! Holli - I think your goal is VERY doable... keep up the good work!! OK.. saw the doc today. Wasn't an appointment just saw him in the Recovery Room where I work when he finished doing surgeries... Anyway, he heard about the sushi night I had and greeted me today with, "I'm not even speaking to you right now!" LOL Anyway, to make a LONG story short... I'm to be on baby food consistancy foods til I'm 4 weeks post op, then a regular diet. After 4 weeks of regular diet (8 weeks total), I get my first fill. I asked him about a slip before a fill and if I would even know I had done the damage... He said a slip is a very big deal. He hasn't had one in over 3 years since he started sewing the band in a different way (part of the stomach is sewn to the diaphragm). but before that, he had a patient that slipped her band in the first 24 hours post op. He said she was doubled over in pain and had horrible nausea and vomiting. he knew immediately she had slipped. He said the band is either in the right spot.. or it's not. There is no in between. He said I won't have some strange feeling in my chest or stomach or throat and wonder if I have slipped. He assured me I would KNOW I had a problem if I did. I also asked about the size of the hole without a fill. I have a 10 cm band. He said with my stomach inside that 10 cm that the hole right now (totally unfilled) is about the size of a dime!! He also said liquids go right through and all this stuff posted about drinking only a little bit at a time or you will hurt the band is a load of crap and that a lot of people writing on the internet don't know what they are talking about...lol... It was a most humorous conversation that mostly entailed us arguing... when he left my coworkers asked me when he and I had gotten married cause we sure were bickering like we were... lol That's what happens when a surgeon and a stubborn patient try to have a converstation... and It doesn't go the way the subborn patient wants it to... :scalesno:

OMG... I can't believe what I just read! I have not had the burps or horrible sensation to burp until today at 2 1/2 weeks post op!! I have been freaking out all day! It seemed today if I wasn't burping, I had the sensation all day long! I felt like I had an egg in my throat and when I would eat or drink it would get stuck (at the throat area). Then I could feel it going down and through my band today! No burps were productive and no vomiting... just pressure in my esophagus! I called my doc and he said to relax and everything sounded fine! I have really been worried lately about my band. I made a bad food choice with the Friday night sushi and have caught myself taking big bites several times. I was an ER nurse for 10 years before moving the the Recovery Room a year ago. For 10 years I had to inhale my food in 5 minutes and rush back to work. I eat very quickly, don't chew and take huge bites! It's a 10 year habit that I'm trying to break, and I literally have to think about every bite! I will see my doc tomorrow and have written down questions I need to ask to ease my mind! I took some gas x a few min ago and the pressure in my throat is better... and my soup went down nicely! ONE MORE THING!!! I assumed that the stitches on my actual stomach around the band were dissolvable and were put there to help hold it in place til the scar tissue and adhesions formed... Well, my doc's nurse told me today that they are NOT dissovable and will be there forever!! That made me feel soooo much better. She said a slip before a fill is VERY rare. PS - I'm a worrier!
-
It sounds like several of us have eaten either the wrong thing a little too soon or drank too much at one time, etc... My surgeon told me when I could advance to full liquids and to mushies but did not tell me not to eat over a certain amount either. I think the surgeons tell us the extreme because they know there will be mistakes along the way. They know all of us are bmi >35 or need to lose around 100 lbs.... obviously we're not the pioneers of will power when it comes to food and right choices!! We should all be careful and continue to follow our own surgeon's advice, but I'm sure we're all fine. My surgeon hasn't had a slip in over 3 years, and I'm sure I'm not the only one that ate too much sushi at the 2 week mark!! If eating/drinking too much at one time on one or a few occasions EASILY caused slippage or ruined your surgery in the first couple of weeks our surgeons would be VERY strict post op and make us sign 1000 papers saying we understand that if we cheat even once it could ruin the surgery!! There is sooooo much inconsistancy in pre and post op diets. Some are strict liquids for a month... some have mushies in the hospital! Again, I think we need to all be very careful and follow instructions... but we probably should all exhale and trust that our surgeons sewed the heck out of that band cause they knew our asses would cheat!! We're cheaters! We're binge eaters! That's why we need the band!!!! Again, I'm not encouraging cheating or excusing those of us who have slipped up... I'm just saying I don't think the FDA would have even approved it in the first place if drinking 2 cups of soup instead of 2 ounces caused the whole flippin thing to fail and required additional surgery! I will see my surgeon on Tuesday and confess about the Nagoya Roll... I'll let you know what he says....
-
2 weeks out and the last couple of days my incisions are pink and itchy!!! All of them!! I haven't done anything differently so maybe my stitches are dissolving and more healing is occurring?? I don't know but they are splotchy pink and itching like crazy!!! No heat or oozing... not infected. something new everyday!!!
-
I have several extracts in my spice rack (formally from making homemade frosting for cupcakes...lol) and sprinkled some in my Atkins chocolate protein drink and blended with ice today! I used coconut extract, and it really is yummy!! The coconut takes away the high protein taste! Yay!
-
I'm right there with ya momma!! I only told immediate family and co-workers (cause I work in the recovery room). My family is cool. Mama asks occasionally about weight loss... but she's my mama and can ask whatever she wants to! lol But I am already soooo sick of people at work asking about it and watching what I eat!! I have explained a million times.. the band is empty... i have no restriction... this time is for healing and not necessarily weight loss... etc... etc... etc... I know they are just curious, and have also said my loss so far is very obvious??? Im with you... it's frustrating!!!! :phanvan

Hi yall... I went back to work this Wednesday and did ok for the last few days. I've had a lot of soreness at my port site... So let's be honest... those who have now been banded for a couple of weeks or are in soft stage... First let me tell you I am VERY "Type A". I am a worrier and obsess over everything! I analyze things to the core, and it drives me crazy! But it's me... so anyway... Ok, band is empty therefore I don't have any restriction. There have been a couple of things that I have eaten that have made me feel pressure for a second (usually after a big or dry bite) but then it passes. I'm not expecting to have restriction right now... but I'm worried that I'm stretching my pouch or messing up the band somehow. Last night I had sushi. It went down fine. (pressure a couple of times but again, it passed almost immediately). I guess since I'm able to eat large amounts and nothing is bothering me.. or getting stuck, that I'm afraid I've messed up the surgery! Can you stretch the pouch before you have restriction if everything is passing through to the bigger stomach?? Does eating things that aren't mushy damage the surgery... or do they want you to go slow because you may get sick? Is anybody else 2 weeks out and still very sore at the port? HELP!! :help: I will see my surgeon on Tuesday at the hospital, but I'm paranoid! I've thought "just go back to liquids and you KNOW that will be fine". But I'm NOT doing that! I haven't had meats yet or anything fried and bread only once.. But the sushi, pasta, veggies mashed up... etc. That pressure feeling makes me feel like I'm hurting the pouch till it passes! I think since my appetite is back and I"m able to eat large amounts without getting sick or nauseated that it's scaring me. I've failed at every diet attempt and I guess I'm just waiting til I ruin this one too... it's breaking my heart. :think

Janine, I don't know what to tell ya hun... your ticker is a lil different??!! I can run my mouse over everyone else's ticker and it turns to the little finger pointing like I can click on it and go to the site. When I run my mouse over yours, that doesn't happen. I have no idea why??? I had pasta tonight!!!! I chewed and chewed and chewed. It all went down fine. I think the key to this mushie stage is just the chewing. As long as you turn it to mush and it goes straight through... all is well! lol

Holli - Did you find out if you are going to be banded or RNY? Was today the day? Welcome newbies! Toni - How are you going to a Mexican rest right now? Girl YOU are superwoman! There is NO WAY I could pull that off right now, and I'm on mushies!! thinner1 - My understanding about the band right now... I have the 10cm band. I measured that and that's about the same as when I touch my thumb and index tip together. Then my stomach is inside of that. I figure I'm about quarter size without any fills. That's not enough to restrict fluids or mushies (which is what you want while healing... NO pressure on the pouch).. but if something wasn't chewed properly it could get stuck. With swelling it might be smaller than that. My doc tole me before surgery that the hole would be about the size of a dime. But I'm assuming he means after fills??? I dunno... that's just my theory!

My internet went down last night for like 13 hours!!! I'm 4 pages behind! Good luck to all of today's bandsters!! I had some scrambled eggs last night... it was the most amazing thing! You would have thought I was at a 5 star restaurant!! I felt fine, no restriction or anything. Nothing got stuck. But afterwards, my stomach was doing backflips all night! It knew I was eating something solid for the first time in over 2 weeks! It was pretty funny. That's the first time I've every chewed scrambled eggs 15 times a bite! LOl.. i guess it actually was liquid! Well, I'm off to have some grits. Eating again is sooooo weird. I go back to work on Wednesday, so I really need to find my strength again! Hope this helps! I got some new names for the calender I see! I'm on it!
