Hey, Julie and others-banded wednesday also-1st night didn't sleep too much-my back also hurt-I too have the gas pains-this and left side pains my only problems right now-I am finding it difficult to get in all the liquids-my doc said 80 oz a day-that is a lot! otherwise doing well-sleeping propped up by lots of pillows-i took mhy vitamins this morning- it took me 20 min just to get all of them down.

I just got banded and I also burp a lot- the nurses at hospital said it is good and to not hold it in.It is kind embarrassing for a girl to be burpin so much-I do not know what it is going be like when I get back to work.

Marcy, if you do not feel comfortable explaining the reason for your time off just tell them you have a week of vacation you are using before the busy holiday season. Also, I was just banded two days ago and am taking a week off.I actually feel better standing so far it is harder to stay seated which is what I do all day at work, so i am taking advantage of the full week. yes, I was weighed before surgery- I also asked them to weigh me after to see if I had gained any weight due to the anasthesia and meds but no, I weighed exactly the same.

I also had similar problem. I had a period last friday that was very full, but I only had it for one day. This is a whole week before my normal period is to start and I am always regular usually 5-6 days long. I was banded yesterday and I have a tiny bit left over that is only visible when I urinate. Totally bizarre, but do agree it is due to our diets. Our bodies are going through a drastic change- I guess this is the way we are repaid back for this change we are making.

I was banded yesterday and came home today. All in all everything went very well. I also only have pain in my abdomen especially where the port is located. I did not need any morphine, just been taking loratab. I have this tight feeling in my stomach but I do not know if that is gas or just the normal pain associated with the surgery. I too do not have much of any appetite. I was on the liquid diet for 16 days prior to surgery and lost 19 lbs.It is weird because I expected to have a feeling that the band is inside me, but I do not feel any different besdies the minimal pain.Good luck to everyone else that has been banded and will be banded tis month. I am also being banded on 09/05/07- i am nervous about liquid diet also- I will be in las vegas for half of my liquid diet stage- talk about challenging!! as far as i know the statistics for weight loss in first year can be 50-75% of your excess weight-it depends on how strict your diet is and how much you exercise. then of course some people have lost all of thier weight in the first year.

i have uhc choice also- for the weight history they just need notes from your chart documenting your weight for the last 5 years- they do not need detailed records or anything like that- your surgeon will list all you comorbidities when they write the letter of necessity- but basically if you have 5 yr weight history and bmi over 40 techincally you should be covered..

my preop diet is low carb- i stopped drinking soda(very difficult) and am trying to limit my caffeine consumption- so far I have only lost about 7 pounds- 10 days prior to surgery is complete liquid diet-my dr is very strict-hopefully some more pounds will come off then...

Mary, if you do not get your letter soon call your Dr.-they can get it online- uhc said they sent mine out on 7/17-still no letter-my provider never rec'd it either- they pulled it up online today and I now have a copy.

I am going to be banded on 9/5/07- when I did my preop labs my vitamin B-12, D, and K came back low. Has anyone else had any low vitamins prior to surgery? Thanks!

I do the vanilla with strawberries and soy milk as a smoothie and the chocolate is good mixed with water and lots of ice!

I know that the coverage depends on what your employer elected, but as far as I know the requirements are the same- 5 years documented weight history-over 40 BMI- if you meet this criteria your doctor needs to contact uhc- notify them of your intent to submit for approval-then they need to submit a letter of necessity along with your weight history for the last 5 years proving your BMI has been over 40 for the last 5 years- once they have this information they send to care coordination where they review it- if they approve this it is called a predetermination approval. They will call your surgeon give them a reference number and then at that point your are free to proceed with the surgery- i did all of my testing up front- I have UHC Choice and they paid for everything before they approved me.Do not believe the rep who told you that ridiculous info-you need initial approval which basically says you meet the criteria and that your policy covers the surgery. Hope this info helps. It took me 4 months to get approval.

don't fret... once you get the appoval everything else goes fast- I started this process in April and just got approved this week- I got all the testing done within two weeks all back in April.Most likely you will prob get a band date of aug or sept:) Good Luck!!

I just got a call from dr ofc- finally approved after 2 months of continuous phone calls to UHC-my surgery date is sept.5th.

Mendy, I have had many problems with the submission for insurance too- I hopefully will know something next week. what insurance do you have? I have read that if you have to have a supervised diet and you did jenny craig or weight watchers if you get a copy of the chart some insurance companies will accept that in lieu of dr supervised diet. you may want to check on that . I do live in federal way, but work in renton down by thriftway off grady way- you will have to tell me when you work and may be I can swing by - I am a little irritated with dr ofc too because they submitted my paperwork to the wrong fax number- not that it was their fault but they should have called first- if I had not been calling to check status on a weekly basis i would never have known the insurance did not receive it. so basically it was resubmitted for the third time last week but now we have a contact at the insurance company, so I have my fingers crossed. so anyways, thats where I am at, hoping to have a surgery date sometime in july. Mary, good luck to you as well. I know that once they actually get it -it should go fairly fast-that is if your Dr. submitted everything they need. Anyways, definitely follow up.
