    I got a date! May 9th at 5:30am !

Congratulations! Very excited for you! They really are not allowed to ask. Mine didn't. It's personal, is all you have to say. Good luck! I'm happier than I have ever been!
  3. When I came back up after surgery, my blood pressure was extremely low. They took me back down to the OR and I had to have a second surgery. They had nicked an artery. After the second surgery, my blood pressure was low again. The were giving me blood transfusions, but the doctor came in and told me I was going to have to have a third surgery. They were going to have to cut me open and possibly need to remove my spleen. I was back in the OR and at the last minute my blood pressure started to come back up. YAY! No surgery was needed. The doctor had ordered a coagulant to go with the blood but it did not arrive at the same time. I picked this doctor because he was at the best hospital in Seattle. You just never know.
  4. I was sleeved Jan 7th. I had some complications with the surgery and spent 4 days in ICU. I'm down around 33 lbs. I stalled for about 10 days on week three. I'm feeling great now. I still have some trouble eating protein sometimes, but it's getting better. Learning to eat slowly is a challenge. I'm making sure to get in 80 grams of protein and my calories seem to average about 750 now. My doctor does not give guidelines for calories or carbs, so I'm at a loss in those departments. He wants us to listen to our bodies. I have been walking a lot but can't seem to push myself much harder than that.

  6. Milk of Magnesia has worked great for me. Maybe you need a bigger dose? I take it at night before bed and it's perfect. You could try a Fleet enema. I also use Konsly powder added to my protein shakes. It doesn't have any carbs.
  7. I will be 6 weeks out on Monday. My doctor would tell you not to try couscous yet. It's what they call a sticky food. I know quinoa is high in protein but it also has 39 carbs per 1cup serving. With such a small stomach, you need to focus on getting in 80 grams of protein. I did try some soynuts the other day that were by Proti Diet and I chewed and chewed and they were yummy!!! There is not much room for too much else. You will have plenty of time to introduce those things soon. I stalled for about 10 days. It felt like an eternity, but I'm now losing again. There is not much you can do about it except to hang in there and be patient. Keep up the great work!!!

    I've got a tough crowd.

There are always people that are going to be antagonistic. You have to listen to your self. I have friends that were unsupportive and it hurts. I had people tell me to just walk a few times a week. Like it's that easy. I didn't want to want to eat anymore. So, I'm 2 weeks out and feel great. Do your research and decide what's best for you.
  9. I had a little too much excitement on operation day(Jan 7th). I was so worried about a leak but didn't know this could happen. I'm posting this only because you never know what could happen and if this can save anyone the trouble I went through it will be a good thing! After my surgery my blood pressure would not rise. I was a bit foggy on how they knew what was wrong, but they wheeled me back down to the OR for a second surgery. There was a blood clot and it was easily flushed out and all done laproscopically through the same openings in the initial procedure. Once back upstairs again, my blood pressure was still not rising . They gave me several bags of blood, but still nothing. My doctor came in and said they were taking me down for a 3rd surgery. That they might have to remove my spleen and they would have to cut me open. I began to hyperventilate. Not much I could do. Just as they were about to put me under again, my blood pressure began to rise. NO THIRD SURGERY!!!! As it turned out, the coagulant for the blood transfusions had not been added at the same time as the blood because it was not housed in the same place as the blood. Hard to believe, This is a top notch hospital. This is why I chose this doctor. So, I spent a few extra days in the hospital. I had purchased the Bliss insurance so everything was covered. They took great care of me! I'm doing great and healing well. I even walked on the treadmill today for 30 minutes. Tolerating everything and have lost all the 25lbs. I gained from all the fluids they were pumping in me plus 5 more. So, the moral of this story is, if your blood pressure is not rising, make sure they are giving you a coagulant with the blood transfusion.

    Nectar Protein Help?

I really like the Nectar shakes but only the ones like chocolate, Vanilla and the oh so yummy oreo cookie. Mixing in the sugar free Toranni coffee mixers are great. Today I bought several flavors to try-salted caramel. hazelnut, peanutbuter ...
  11. My doctor told me to eat an Atkins diet for the 2 weeks prior to surgery. It helps to shrink the liver which is important because it is on top of the stomach. I have been having a shake when I feel like it to experiment with them. Doctor's office recommends Nectar brand mixed with 8oz. unsweetened soy or almond milk(1-2 carbs). Today I bought some sugar free Torani coffee syrups and mixed up a vanilla shake with salted caramel flavoring. It was yummy!
  12. I have my surgery scheduled with Dr. McMahon in January. How is everyone doing now? Is the weight staying off? Were you happy with Dr. McMahon's follow up?
  13. Artsong, I've been wondering what your doctor says about your weightloss? Do they have good follow-up or a nutritionist you can speak to? Any support groups?
  14. Thanks so much to everyone who has responded. I'm now getting very excited about my decision! How amazing is this website! So glad I happened upon it!
  15. I am scheduled to have my surgery on January 7th and am nervous. So, I'm wondering...any regrets? What has been the worst part?
