    What makes someone a veteran?

This was a great question. I think I am approachingVet status.....my issues have certainly transitioned! Surgeon: Dr. Farrell UNC Hospital 4/24/2013:------ Preop: 239-----Current: 194.6
  4. I needed this post so bad. I was chugging right along after my surgery in April...never hit a stall, then at the beginning of August until today, I did not drop an ounce! Today I am down just a 10th of a lb...and happy for it. I have to admit that this "stall/plateau" correlates to my stop in tracking and monitoring my intake....and eating sometimes till its PAINFUL. So the links to the articles help,to remind me....I ain't doing the work right now. I have gotten lazy. I have about 35 lbs to go.....I need to get back to those things that work. Thanks for the insight and reminder. I needed a kick in my squishy butt to firm it up :>) Surgeon: Dr. Farrell UNC Hospital 4/24/2013:------ Preop: 239-----Current: 194.6
  5. Hi there, just saw your message Ihave been traveling and not on the site much. Welcome to another great chapter in your life! I am hoping recovery is going well! Glad to know you were on an up swing before discharge. Surgeon: Dr. Farrell UNC Hospital 4/24/2013:------ Preop: 239-----Current: 194.6
  6. I am tentative next week if we hear from insurance by this Friday.
  7. The sleeve exacerbated my GERD too. But it happened at 3 weeks post op. The surgeon put me on the max dose of omprezole with Zantac it got a little better but I always felt like my stomach was eating itself and like I was going to throw up....but I didn't. That lasted until about week 12. Visited my surgeon for my second post up follow up, he recommended I see a gastroenterologist to manage the reflux. Be he also felt with time my reflux would resolve....well guess what.....At week 13 I started turning the corner. My reflux is much better and I lowered my drug dose and no really bad issues. For me...I think I needed time. I may still follow up with a GI doctor...but I am feeling better. Surgeon: Dr. Farrell UNC Hospital 4/24/2013:------ Preop: 239-----Current: 194.6

    July 2013 Sleevers

In the early stages it will be hard to get the volume in to hit both your goals. It took me 12 weeks to consistently get 60 gms a day and get 48 ozs of liquid in too. Surgeon: Dr. Farrell UNC Hospital 4/24/2013:------ Preop: 239-----Current: 194.6
  9. I am headed on the road for my first extended trip since surgery. I am nervous about getting my Protein in and developing irregularity. I bought a lot of Quest bars....so hoping they will be my life saver. Part of my travel is international.....so praying I will be ok. Q: how you y'all use Quest bars?

I really like Quest bars. I eat one per day rotating the favors. Accept the lemon. It has a funny after taste. It helps me get Fiber and Protein and it does not have that sugary sweet taste. Surgeon: Dr. Farrell UNC Hospital 4/24/2013:------ Preop: 239-----Current: 194.6

    Durham, North Carolina?

Hmmm....don't know how I missed this thread. I was sleeved in April almost a true 45 lbs down. Still struggling to get my Protein up past 60 a day....and get all my Fluid in. I am rarely hungry and often forget to eat at work! That's my problem right now. My hair is shedding now but I am not to worried about it....I know it will grow back. Had my second follow up and my labs look great...only my B1 is slightly low. Happy I did this despite my GERD has been exacerbated by the surgery. I feel and look great! 12. I am glad you like Dr Overby! You should have a private room. I too though there should be more preop prep...but there isn't. Things went well without it. I did the low carb before surgery and did only one meal a day to prep for post op. I think it helped me prep my body so I would not have sugar withdrawal post op. I started trying different Protein supplements to find what I would like. So one meal a day and the rest Protein drinks. It really helped my transition. Keep me posted on your progress! Sliders

My slider was Krispy Kreme donut holes...I ate 2 a day for 3 days and decided the discomfort afterward and the sacrifice of a wholesome meal with Protein was really STUPID. I am proud to say I am in recovery now! But I think I needed to do that to see how bad I would feel in comparison to how good I feel with a wholesome protein rich meal. I will not say I will never do that again....but now I know how it feels and am less likely to repeat. Surgeon: Dr. Farrell UNC Hospital 4/24/2013:------ Preop: 239-----Current: 194.6
  14. My preop appointment I met Lisa the nurse clinician and Zdr Farrell and one of the residence ( who did the bulk of my health assessment). Dr Farrell was very throural explaining the risks of both lapband, VSG and bypass...along with advantages and disadvantages. He went through anatomy of what would happen...discussed the assessment the resident collected. Then he told me what post op would look like for me and how my lifestyle will change and must change ( he was serious about my diet and exercise). After we finished our 15 minute conversation and he said I was an excellent candidate, he answered my questions.....we tentatively scheduled my surgery. He left the room and Lisa and I talked about insurance stuff. I think I was a low risk patient so I believe the team was not as intense with me as maybe a person who has major health issues requiring the surgery. They sent me across the hall for preop labs, and EKG, consenting and preop instructions. I think I was there 3 hours total. Although I believe the nutritional support and monitoring could be better, post op they do respond quickly if I email with a problem. That I appreciate and have no complaints. My second post op visit was last week and my labs look good although my b1 is low and I now take a b1 tablet with my multi vit, Calcium with vit d and magnesium. I feel great can eat a little more and lose about 1-1.5 lbs every week. I still don't exercise....I still struggle getting anymore than 60 gms of Protein a day and I struggle getting more than 40 oz of Water each day. I have to eat or drink all the time and I still don't have an appetite. Not complaining....but it is a challenge. My reflux is better but still uncomfortable after I eat even being treated with meds...so dr. Farrell wants me to see a GI doc for additional FU.....he believes this will resolve on its own with time....but I could benefit from a GI doc checking out my medications to treat the reflux. I am glad I had the surgery...I have enjoyed the UNC team....let me know how it goes after surgery! Surgeon: Dr. Farrell UNC Hospital 4/24/2013:------ Preop: 239-----Current: 194.6

  18. I just had to post this! I am down 43lbs....have had two stalls, but I am here and HAPPY! I start my exercise program next month......so I am excited with my changes and expect to see them really show up when I add exercise. That was one of the reasons I had the surgery, so my already arthritic knees would not get worse as I exercise. I love weight lifting and I love the shape of my muscles when I trim down! This has been a long time coming. I have not been this size since 2007. Trying to attach my Face photo.....hope it shows up!
