I have struggled with weight all my life. Ive lost and gained weight more times than I can count... I've explore the gastric sleeve since it became available but always told my self I could do it on my own and I did! I lost 90 pounds in 1999 after my fifth child and began having serious body image issues so I had a tummy tuck... I sustained it for 3 years and gained it all back when I moved to Texas. I lost the wight again in 2006 and gained it all back. In 2010 I had lost 50 pounds, ran a half marathon and several 5k's... i was going the right direction and feeling great when I hurt my left knee and stopeed working out, gaining all the weight back... My doctor suggested the lap band in 2008 and I refused, saying that was for people without self control...boy was I wrong! I continued researching the surgery on the sidelines when on November 19th my sister in law called me with devastating news: My brother in law, who was my age and overweight like me, had passed away while in his sleep. His doctor had suggested gastric surgery but he was too afraid to do it. I immediately decided I did nt want to go through that and scheduled my sleeve. I am traveling to Mexico because I can't afford the cost in the US and will be arriving San Diego November 10th!

I am 9 days away from surgery date and am scared but excited at the same time and finally joining the forums after lurking for years... I feel like your experiences have fueled my decision. Thank you for sharing!. Now I'm ready to Ger it done!
