VSG vs RNY hard decision very confused :(
christy38 replied to christy38's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Thanks so much for all your advices! I'm still leaning more towards VSG. I know that it's still a new surgery but for some reason I feel it's much more safer and less risks after surgery. Reflux can always be treated with antacids or PPIs . I myself do not like medicine but I guess I have to test and see which antacid will work for me. I have my first nutritionist appointment on the 30th of this month. My doctor said 4 visits and then she would send me to get my pre-operative testing and then we can talk about which surgery I've decided on. Hopefully VSG will me my first & final decision. Prayers! Prayers! That's all I will need! Thanks all! Best of luck to all of you in your journey! ❤ -
Hi, my name is Sara and I'm from chelsea New York . I just wanted to know if anyone has any one has had VSG and developed an ulcer after the surgery.. If so , would the treatment for the ulcer affect the stomach even more because its smaller? Thabks

So I had my first appointment with Dr. Choi at Montifiore Hospital on December 20th and I must say I felt real comfortable with her. She's a great surgeon and has great feed back. Only thing that really made me sad was when she asked me with surgery I was looking into to get. I said VSG of course! Lol and she said she Doesn't recommend VSG for anyone with really bad Acid Reflux and a Hiatal hernia which would be repaired but she said might return in about 5 years. Bummer!!!! I really was looking into vSG and now this whole thing puts everyone on to another path.. Has anyone had a hiatal hernia repaired and or acid reflux and has had VSG? I need some advice !! She says she Would be happy to do either surgery , but i just have to know that there would be a risk of my reflux returning and being much worse then before surgery.. That would put me on iron , calcium and antacid medicine for the rest of my life! Help!!!! Lol

Thanks for all your advices.. I'm still so confused about which surgery to pick . I think that if I have to pick RNY I rather try and lose the weight on my own. I just feel there's too much involved with RNY. I will keep doing my research! Thanks! ;(

Well my doc said that you won't feel the reflux come Back till a few months to a year.. in her experience she's seen reflux come back and year or two after the surgery.

Thanks so much for your prompt response and congrats on getting approved so fast! I really wish you the best on this journey and hoping for the best outcome with mines. I really do want VSG I'm just not comfortable with my intestines being moved around. My dad passed away from colon cancer and I don't know what the future may bring hopefully god willing ill be ok but I also worry about having so much stomach removed but like you said I have to do my research. I've been researching for the past 4 years as well. Went to Lenox seminar 2 times and now montifiore. It's hard decision but something's gotta give! Thanks a again...

Thanks so much! All though I'm still worried and confused , this still helped a lot! Hopefully I can reach a decision before my appointment date... Wish me luck! ???? -
My first appointment with my surgeon is next week the 20th and I'm curious to know if anyone asked their surgeon if there was any chances of getting stomach cancer after the surgery or better yet does getting VSG put you in a place where you may get stomach cancer

1- I am never going to miss not being able to bend down while wearing jeans.. Jesus it's so painful. 2-besides getting healthy which is the most important thing outta all of this.. It would be great to finally have a normal looking butt! Lol sorry but its so true!!! I have like 3 right now! Lol There so much more I won't miss! Not fitting in nice jeans , not spending all day in the mall trying to buy clothes and coming out with 1 blouse and 1 pair of jeans! Won't miss losing my breath while feeling stuck in a booth at the restaurant , won't miss people looking at me like I'm not a normal person, won't miss my thighs! That have me a prisoner in my own body! Everything I wear has to be approved by my thighs!!!! Jesus! I'm crying while I type this! Because I've been so worried about the out come of this surgery and if its right for me but after writing about everything I wouldn't miss... Who wouldn't have surgery!!! It's. life changing experience ! I will finally out of this prison!!! God please help and make sure everything comes out perfect!!! Sorry if I got sentimental but it's been a longtime dealing with this and I think it's now time to stop suffering and have a new and greater and healthier life!!! Can't wait to wear heels!!! Without having to take them off 10 minutes after putting them on!!! -

June 5Th Surgery - Looking For Some Pals!
christy38 replied to ShannonK's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Hi everyone ! I just received my referral and I'm in my way to my first appointment with dr. choi @ montifiore hospital in bronx New York. I'm so happy but very very scared , I've never had surgery before and this scares me a lot although your stories and experiences keep me motivated and positive. Hopefully by September (which is my birth month) ill be approved. I'm definitely leaning more towards VSG being that my family has a history of Colon issues. I've been over weight all my life and now 38 and tired of feeling sorry for myself. Not only do I want to look good but I want to feel good as well. I think what worries the most too is the long term with VSG. Anyway any advice would be greatly appreciated and opps almost forgot , I'm 318 pounds and i want to know if anyone weighing this much has gotten VSG and how many pounds have they lost? Thanks so much for all your help & support and congrats to the ones on the losers side!!!
