I have to know, does the hunger/appetite REALLY disappear?
cataro replied to Jenny12's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am only a few weeks out, so things might change, but I don't feel hungry at all. The only hunger I suffer from is head-hunger, which I can usually recognize and handle. -
Headache.... Surgery 12/28
cataro replied to latice19's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
The headache is pretty normal. I was a two-weeker, and felt HORRIBLE for the first few days. It will pass. -
Pain in my left shoulder
cataro replied to RobbiesGirl's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had the same thing for about a week immediately post op. it was pretty miserable. Gas x and a heating pad on my stomach ans shoulder really helped. -
I feel your pain! I'm going to miss tamales this year, too :-( I agree with losingit, try a small bite of the inside first, see how it goes. Good luck!

I'm going to call bullsh... on the NUT that said that, too. If it were true, we would have a lot of sleevers with these issues, and our docs would not clear us to drink. My dr cleared me 4 months post op, I also agree with you, Iggy. While I won't die if I never have a glass of merlot, it would be a very sad existence.

I bought some, too. They are absolutely disgusting! At 42g of protein, I'm going to drink em tho.

3 days post opp and emotional!
cataro replied to ShyV.'s topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was sleeved 12/12/12. I had lost about 15 lbs pre-op and was super proud of myself. Then I got on the scale the day after my sleeve. I was up 8 lbs! It really made me sad and start to question why I had done this to myself. I slowly lost the weight (I think it's Water weight from all of the IVs), then yesterday, at 9 days out. I got on the scale and was down 25 from my start weight . Just hang in there! -
12/12/12 Sleevers are how we doing?
cataro replied to blkdiamond377's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
So far I am down 25 lbs :-) I'm getting in my fluids finally. I did become dehydrated, but managed to get enough liquids in to recover. I could not, for the life of me, drink any more of those shakes! I have switched to the unflavored protein powder and am doing MUCH better. Been adding it to soups, jellos, cottage cheese, you name it. So far my pain levels are pretty tolerable. The other day I went grocery shopping for Christmas dinner, and was a little sore after. I completely spaced that the turkey was over the weight I am cleared to lift, lol. -
I think you might want to call the dr on this one. I don't think you should be that nauseous. Your nut and dr might be able to figure out why, and come up with a diet that is more in-tune with your tummy. Then you would know for sure what to eat.

64 ounces of water and 60 grams of Protein - Are you kidding?
cataro replied to GraceAbounds's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am on day 6 post-op and still cannot hit both goals. I can hit one, or the other, but not both in the same day. There was no way I could even get close to my water the first few days. They know that people can't meet their goal, I think that's why they load us up on so much IV fluid, lol! Every day will get easier. -
Imagine the pain when you clean a wound with alcohol, then imagine that pain going down the entire length of your freshly wounded tummy... If you still want a drink after that, it's your decision.

I started the process mid-October, and was sleeved Dec 12.

I was sleeved today about noon. First few hours in recovery were horrible, but I am doing much better now. Been up a few times to make laps around the nurses' station, that really helped me feel better! Any post sleevers out there with advice for surviving the first few days?
-
Thanks for all the advice! They took the pump out right before discharging me. I'm doing pretty good, I think. I'm in a lot less pain than I expected, and am moving around really well. I take my pain meds when I need them, and so far I have not been overwhelmed. Yesterday I was finally able to pick things up off the floor, yay! The hardest part is getting everything in. Everyday I can drink a little more, but I'm still not getting 64oz. The "head hunger" has returned as of tonight. I was perfectly fine til an Olive Garden commercial came on, then I felt hungry. Took some sips of water, pretending it was a scrumptious Italian dish, and the "hunger" went away. These first few days have not been easy, but I know its going to be worth it!

Surgery scheduled! Normal to feel like I want to eat like a pig until then?
cataro replied to Jenny12's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had a few food funerals before going on the diet. Not only did I want to eat my favorites one last time, but I wanted to have some sort of closer with the types of foods that have been such an ipmortant part of my life. While I might be able to eat these foods again, I felt that it was important to myself to say "goodbye" to them. So yes I think a food funeral is normal, having done so myself. However, you do have to consider what the dr requires. If,like the previous poster, you must reach a goal weight, then I would not suggest many funerals. You know what you have to do to prepare for surgery, and if you think you can have a funeral, then go for it. If not, then don't. Good luck! -
12-12-12 op date - are you ready?
cataro replied to Ms.Cali's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Sitting here full of IVs. Sooo ready to get this over with and begin life as the new me! -
No one knows your family and your situation better than you do. If you feel like telling them would be a mistake, then it probably is. There are some people in my family I have chosen to tell, and others I have not. This is my personal journey, and I only want positive people involved.

I went and bought an immersion blender just for my liquid diet phase.

12/2012 Sleevers...what Is Your Plan?
cataro replied to Patienlywtng on my Curves's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I hope I am recovered enough by Christmas, my surgery is 12/12/12. My husband's family is coming to our house this year. His mother has been very ill and was not able to host. As far as clothes, I think I am just going to buy dresses and belts. I think dresses will be the most versatile. I have been in the kitchen making all sorts of broths and soups for when I come home. I do need to go purchase those baby spoons, that's a good idea!!
