I am amazed at how our bodies are sometimes able to tell us what we need. I have picked up a few of these tips from hanging out with insane people! lol After my first 100 mile bike ride I thought I was surely going to die, but one of the vetran riders handed off some of these tips and they seemed to work. Others I learned from powerlifters at the gym and some from runners. One other thought about the recumbent bikes. They aren't so much difficult about shifting when it comes to hills it's more about the fact that you are isolating your leg muscles from the rest of your body. Basically you cannot stand up on the pedal to use your upper body weight to crank through. The end result maximum areobic benefit at least that is what I tell myself when I have to go up a $%$$% %$%#$%#$ &%&$%# Hill. Take a look at all the overpasses on the pinellas trail I had to deal with last weekend and you'll see what I'm talking about! str8jacket29 - Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting JC

Pickle juice has Calcium chloride in it which is one of the things the cardiac unit may give a person having a heart attack. A lot of people think of potasium when thinking of muscle cramps however low calcium is often the culprit. The fact that it is in the form of a solution (juice) assists it in getting into your system rapidly. A secondary benefit of pickle juice is vinegar; which helps neutralize lactic acid. The acid that causes that sticky painful burning feeling and is a byproduct of the muscle fatigue/repair process. JC

I've been trying to adjust to having some restriction again 5.0 cc just like a GT Mustang! I feel I had a great weigh-in; (234) net gain of 8 pounds after a month with absolutly no restriction! I did not make the 80 miles on Pinellas trail :-( lots of mishapps; however I did manage to total 40 miles not too bad. The weather was just awesome. Uploaded new pics on photobucket under pinellas trail. str8jacket29 - Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting Chrispy you seem to have the darn juju working for you, very cool. I hope he keeps you guessing for a while. It's somtimes more fun having a mystery person out there. Just wanted to check-in hope everyone is well. I have been trying to help people on some of the other threads and haven't felt like I was welcome. This has got to be the friendliest group I have found. Thank you to everyone for treating me like one of the family. You are the best in my book. Hey Alysa thinking of you. JC -
I could not recommend anyone more highly than Kathy Gonzales at Millennium Medical in St. Petersburg. She is with fill centers usa. In my opinion when it comes to fills she is on the same level as the fill Dr.s at the Obesity Control Center and It's a heck of alot closer than Tijuana . She asked who did my band surgery; when I told her Dr. Ortiz she said oh good he does great work. She really seems to care about her patients. JC

A couple thoughts make sure to be hydrated before ride. The other is what the serious power lifters at the gym have told me take in a dual isolate whey protien shake 30-45 mins after workout. Not sure if this will help but it wouldn't hurt. Another thought, you can try some pickle juice before ride this will assist in preventing spasms and cramps. JC

Thanks Chrispy those for some very kind and uplifting words. I feel as if I am a male mirror of you after reading your last post. Just replace "Big" girl with "Big" boy. As for excercise, this weekend, it's off to the Pinellas Trail for a 80 mile ride on my catrike 700 Catrike Performance Trikes will post pics when I regain Consciousness . Alysa, getting antsy wating to hear from ya sending your father and all a big prayer! JC -
I live in Central Florida Very near the Withlacoochee river. Having grown up here I have tried everything under the sun and have become skeptical of any mosquito repellant! I found this little device called a Thermacell, THIS THING WORKS!!!! I am not talking about a little bit, it just works, also runs off the noseeums. ThermaCELL Mosquito Repellent My son and I Kayaked the Chassahowitzka river last weekend. I used the ThermaCell lantern at our campsite. It is worth checking out. JC

Thanks Chispy, I sense you are enjoying a self esteem boost!! (inspirational) You are absolutely right about my excercise frequency. Even though I was active at 350 lbs. I hiked part of the Appalacian trail and did my first whitewater rafting trip at that weight but the recovery time caused me to have long amounts of downtime. I did my first 100 mile bike ride weighing 330 lbs finished in 11 hours not bad for a BIGBOY! However I don't think I moved my body for three days in the aftermath. Translation, I think I may have some stuborn old Brahma Bull DNA in my veins. Some would argue it is more likely to be Jackass DNA but those people are Nuts! Alysa hope things are going well for you and your family. JC -
I did my first 100 mile ride after I purchased a BikeE it is an entry level recumbent bicycle. My weight at the time I believe was approx 330 lbs total trip time 11 hours. Unfortunatly BikeE is no longer in business however the sun bike company has an ez series which is very much like my BikeE. I found with the recumbent I was able to work around my issues created by my excess weight, mainly seat relate pain. I am now have a catrike 700 but still I think I prefer my BikeE the only limitatations are they don't do off pavement well and hills are a strain. Also have a New Balance 5k 6200 recumbent stationary for the Central Florida lightning/thunderstorm seasons. JC

Alysa, I try to stay in motion, when my wife and I split I left with practcally nothing. The furnishings I chose for my new place were a ab-lounger, a recumbent stationary bicycle and the most uncomfortable, cheapest, futon I could find (wal-mart 99.00). I made sure my excercise equipment was preferable to sit on , that way I end up doing some crunches or cranking out a couple miles while I clear out my DVR for the day (tv junkie as well). I purchased two different style recumbent bikes , one is actually a trike. I am fortunate enough to live very close to several of the rails to trails systems. I try to ride alot you will meet snobs there but you will also meet very good natured people as well. Finally I purchased a couple Kayaks which is not only good arm workout but abs too. The first thing I do after work is change clothes and either walk the local Jr. High School Track or one leg of the rails to trails system. I have worked up to 4 miles in an hour and have met some nice people there too. I also just joined a local gym that offers weight lifting, martial arts and aerobics. These are all good places to meet people, the sad thing is it seems you almost have to prove yourself by showing up consistantly, then the other people working out start accepting and opening up sometimes mentoring as well. Positive attitude helps more than I can describe. I have also become more involved in practicing my faith I try to attend church as often as possible I try to devote time to prayer and reflection I find the more inner peace I have the more patience and strength I gain. I was sad to read you stopped going to church regularly but at the same time I understand, when you feel miserable it is hard to stay motivated for any reason I will keep you in my prayers. One thought I will share ...be a little selfish focus on yourself and do not allow your mind to make you feel guilty for doing so, fight any feelings of guilt. When you find peace peace will find you. What I am saying is start making changes for you, don't worry about doing things that guys want to do. If you like "girlie" things do them. You usually find someone to date when and where you least expect it. You are starting on a new journey with this lapband procedure, focus on Alysa focus on doing things that will make you happy with yourself. I found once I started liking JC and what he is doing others joined in, I am not dating anyone yet but I am sure I could because I have noticed that the more impressed I am with myself the more other people are impressed too. There are always people who are going to try to drag you down the difference is if you have your self esteem and inner peace on your side and not theirs YOU WILL PREVAIL. You have also found a like-minded group of people here who have never met you and still they care about you and your well-being that has to give some level of comfort it does for me. I would just say be patient you have made a decision to change things about yourself you don't like, this says a lot of positive things about who you really are!! Smile you are moving in a forward direction!! As far as work is concerned my Dr. put this glue over my incisions it was great they never gave me any trouble I even helped an old girlfriend move in one day, three days after my surgery (her husband turned abusive on her), point is I was lifting some heavy stuff at a fast pace. Probably not smart but..... Sorry for being so long winded. btw for anyone interested I have posted the pics of my last Kayaking trip on my photobucket account there is also a before & after album you are more than welcome to look at it as well just proceed with caution "shirtless" lol str8jacket29 - Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting JC -

OK I found the name it is scopolomine or something like that. It's the same stuff that comes in a topical patch form that goes behind your ear when you take a cruise and fear sea sickness. Hope this is helpful, JC -

Thanks Denise, I am actually going crazy. This past month has been a huge trial I haven't been able to think clearly. If I post something that doesn't make sense please don't take offense I am literally not my self right now. I feel as if I am treading Water and failing. The 19th can't get her soon enough. I have been walking four miles a night, and I went kayaking this weekend my step son and I had a great weekend, we paddled over twenty miles from Friday to Sunday, swam with a couple Manatees, dove through some caverns I actually fit through the holes with no problem or fear of getting STUCK underwater! You name it we had a blast. Then there was Monday I stepped on the scale and I am up TEN (10) pounds since my unfill! I am thankful that this thread is very active, this one and a couple others keep me somewhat distracted. JC -

Ok, this is hat I found so far, I will send a message and try to find out what the name of the medicine is, anyway here is the post: First of all, I found out what my problem is. When people eat their stomach churns and works hard to break down food so it can pass through the GI system. My stomach works REALLY hard at this task. IOW, when I eat my stomach goes into overdrive and bottom line, my stoma closes. So I am now taking drugs to prevent stomach spasms. It is working sometimes. I still can't eat fruits and veggies yet I can eat dried fruits and veggies. The dried veggies I eat taste just like potato chips so I feel like I'm cheating but the scale tells me different. I was banded in December, I have lost 70 lbs, I have 32 to go. I can't eat meat but that's okay with me, I was a vegetarian for many years and am more than happy to go back to that lifestyle. Hope this helps. JC -
