    any march 25th sleevers

You'll probably be done by the time I go in! Wishing you an uneventful surgery. :-)

    any march 25th sleevers

Ready as I'm going to be! Just picked up popsicles and broth for when I get home Tues. I'm fortunate to only have to do 1day of clear liquids (tomorrow) prior to surgery. I can't imagine what the folks who had to do 2 weeks + went through. Where are you having your surgery done? I'm in Sacramento.

    any march 25th sleevers

I was told nothing over 30 pounds for 3 weeks.
  4. Thank you for this. My surgery is Monday and I've been focusing on positive thoughts and imagining my post-op experience to be exactly as you describe. I had my gallbladder out in Jan and had absolutely no nausea or pain (I even asked them if they did anything) just felt like I did a lot of crunches. Wishing you continued success with your recovery.

My only pre op instructions is clear liquids only the day before and nothing after 11 pm. I'm scheduled for 5 am check in for 7:30 am surgery.

    any march 25th sleevers

Thank you! I've never heard of getting a wrist band a week ahead of time. That's crazy, and I would be pissed too, especially since I'm not telling anyone about my surgery. I would think it would get wrecked after a week of showering and hand washing. Very strange.

I'm ready, but came down with a nasty head cold over the weekend and am nervous about getting postponed. I have my pre-op appt tomorrow, so I guess I'll know for sure then. Fingers crossed!

    Where does weight go?

I've often wondered this myself so I googled that very question... here's what the Mayo clinic site says. (looks like you're partially correct thinking it's your bad breath!) :-) When you lose weight, where does the lost body fat go? Answer from Katherine Zeratsky, R.D., L.D. To understand the answer, it helps to remember that fat is basically stored energy. Your body converts fat to usable energy for your muscles and other tissues through a series of complex metabolic processes. This causes your fat cells to shrink. These metabolic activities also generate heat, which helps maintain your body temperature, and waste products. These waste products — Water and carbon dioxide — are excreted in your urine and sweat or exhaled from your lungs.

Lying about Weight Loss Surgery !

I don't think it's up to you get to decide what makes her life easier - that's up to her. And maybe for her it's easier not to talk about it. And for you, it's easier to tell all. Continue to support her - if she hasn't feel comfortable in two years telling folks about her surgery, you should support that. Live and let live.
  12. I'm taking the same approach, and not even telling anyone that until after the surgery (3/25). My husband thinks I should tell my brother and his wife (we are very close and they live near us) that I'm going in for surgery beforehand. They live in Mexico in the winter so I don't see the point - what can they do besides worry? I had gallbladder surgery in January and neither of them still know about that!

    Grape-nuts

  14. A couple of years ago I had given up all flour and sugar, cold turkey... about 4 days after doing that, I felt the same way and I suspect this is what is happening to you. I felt AWFUL... it's like detoxing! And I was exhausted. Then after about a week, once it was really out of my system, I felt awesome and had tons of energy. You no longer are giving your body those sugar highs/rushes and crashing down from them - you're just in the crashing down mode for now. I'm getting sleeved on the 25th and am already anticipating this happening, even though I've been cutting way back on this stuff for the past couple of months. Hoping you feel better in the next couple of days.

    any march 25th sleevers

My doctor doesn't require a pre-op diet (at least not the two weeks that I've heard many people mention). I guess I'll find out more when I get my packet in the mail and go for my pre-op appt. on the 21st. Anyone freaking out a little bit? I'm not concerned about the surgery itself - I have complete confidence in my surgeon (he removed my gallbladder in January and I had a quick/fantastic recovery with no problems at all). I think my biggest concern is being around people afterwards. I have only told my husband and hairdresser (I laugh to myself every time I write that, but she had gastric bypass 7 years ago and is doing great). Not sure if I will tell anyone - I am very close to my brother and his wife (she is like a sister to me), we do a lot together and am struggling with whether or not to tell them. Since I will probably have a hiatal hernia repaired at the same time, I'm thinking of just going with that since there are diet restrictions similar to what we have to do afterwards (my husband is on board with this plan). I am helping to plan a bridal shower on April 14 and am going to Mexico for a wedding May 26 for 10 days (staying with my brother and sister-in-law). My sister-in-law is diet obsessed (she is a lifetime weight watchers member) and has just recently re-lost a bunch of weight - she has struggled for years too. But she watches everyone's plate and loves to cook and feed people, and is always very curious about "what are you doing" as far as dieting is concerned. I have no problem telling her to back off (and she usually does), but this is why I really don't want to tell her - I know it will be constant "can you have this or that?" (mostly coming from a helpful/concerned place, but I know it will drive me nuts). She will most definitely makes comments about the amount of food I'm eating ("is that ALL you're having?!") and she has made not very nice comments about other people who have had WLS. This is truly the only thing that's bothering me the most about this whole thing. UGH!
  16. I feel the same way. I started this whole process back in September and did my 6-month supervised plan, etc. I was totally on board to do this and then today, my surgeon's office called and told me I was approved and scheduled for March 25th. AACCKK!!! I did not expect to have that reaction. I feel like I have researched this to death and am as informed as I am going to be. But there's still the "oh my God, is this really what it's come to!?" in the back of my mind.

Just got scheduled today for the 25th. Pre-op on the 21st.

    march 25th so excited

I just got scheduled for March 25 also. Pre-op on the 21st. Started this whole process in September!
  19. I could have written this post myself - it is exactly how I feel - especially the first and last paragraphs. When talking with my friend who had gastric bypass nearly 8 years ago, she said that she told everyone she came in contact with that she had the surgery. She felt it was up to her to educate everyone. However, now she says if she had to do it all over again, she would be much more selective about who she told. I think there is a time and place for everything, and I will decide both when it is right for me.

    How much exersice?

At a support group meeting I went to recently, the doctor was discussing maintenance and said that we should do a minimum of 300 minutes of "purposeful exercise" a week. It doesn't necessarily need be done at a gym, but he mentioned gardening, walking the dog, golfing, etc.

    Fake Food

For quite some time, I have practiced "perimeter shopping" at the grocery store. 95% of what you should be eating is found here - dairy, meat and produce. Nearly all the stuff up and down the aisles is all processed (except for canned meats like tuna and chicken - you could include some canned fruit and veg, but I prefer frozen if for some reason I can't get fresh). I am pre-sleeve, but am glad that this is a habit I started long ago.
  22. Has anyone been denied by their insurance for having a BMI of 39.9? I have no co-morbidities, so my insurance (Blue Shield of CA) requires a BMI of 40 to approve the surgery, and next month will be the final month of my 6-month supervised diet so I was hoping they'd be able to submit. I'm 5'8" and at my last weigh-in I was at 262.5 - a half-pound off! Since my last visit I have had my gallbladder removed and have lost a few pounds (and at my last visit I wore really heavy clothes, left my shoes on and kept my keyes in my pocket), so I know I will be further away today. This part frustrates me to no end...

    Acidic stomach

Did any of you have a hiatal hernia repaired at the same time as your surgery? My doctor will be doing that when I get mine and I'm really hoping it will help with heartburn.
