What did you eat and/or drink while still in the hospital?
SeriouslyChange replied to MindiJean's topic in Post-op Diets and Questions
My surgeon let me go when I decided that I was up for some SF Popsicle on day 3. Before then, a lick of SF rice pudding, a lick of SF Jello, a small sip of juice. I loved swishing ice Water in my mouth and spitting it out. I didn't think I could stomach swallowing it, but it really hit the spot in my dry mouth. -
Sleeve doubles in size after 1 year?
SeriouslyChange replied to luvzpitbullz's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
I eat more than I did a few weeks post op, but I can't eat a full meal either. I love my sleeve and feeling satisfied with a few bites. All this money saved on food is being put to better use. I've got one really good looking closet -
Gerber beef Soup isn't too bad with a dash of salt and pepper. My stepmom tried to help me eat 1 week post op by buying a lot of baby food for me Fruits were pretty decent. banana, apple sauce, yum yum lol But some of them tasted like butt.

How long did it take for you to feel normal again?
SeriouslyChange replied to MindiJean's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
6 weeks and I had adopted my life post op as normal. I think about how life use to be and THAT is strange lol -
Oreos are the one cookie I couldn't stomach even preop. In middle school, my friends mom tried to prove a point and mixed crisco, sugar, and some other sweeteners between 2 cookies. Tasted the exact same. She showed us, and it disgusted me at 12 and still disgusts me now. Every time I see an Oreo I think of Crisco, lol

Clothing expenses after surgery
SeriouslyChange replied to linda305's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I've been shopping at thrift stores for jeans. I want to say I've gone through at least.... 100+ pairs of jeans. The thrift store by where I live charge in the realm of $2-$5 per pair and I've gone a bit crazy before lol. I went to lane bryant about.... 2 months post op, and the sales lady was telling me about her niece who had RNY. I was trying on their Genius jeans or whatever they are/were called. The sales lady told me to shop at thrift stores. She said, why spend $70 on one pair of jeans when you can buy at least 7 pairs at that price. Your body changes a lot and fast! It's more cost effective that way. Went to my first thrift store the next day It'll get pricey once things start fitting a lot better. I go crazy buying clothing and heels now, and I love getting dolled up -
I am furious with my surgeon at the moment... This is NOT my fault!
SeriouslyChange replied to Daydra's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I read the beginning of your post and then skimmed the rest since it's long and I'm tired. Back in high school, I was an avid Water faster. I have gone 14+ days on water alone. I am not justifying what your surgeon said at all, but just know that it is possible to not eat anything and not end up in the ER. Also, if you jumped right back up from under 700 calories to 1100, your body will gain. Had you taken a more gradual increase of say 100 cals per day, it would not have come back so quickly. I'm sure that everything will level off for you and you will be okay. You seem to be on track other than this small bump, and you will fall back in place quickly. -

How long is this gonna take?
SeriouslyChange replied to Ree's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I went through Kaiser in Northern California. 24 hr liquids only and lighter meals starting 3 days before. Every surgeon is different, so yours may or may not require a liquid diet -
Anyone have allergic reaction to steri strips?
SeriouslyChange replied to Living Lean 13's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Mine made my stomach burst out into a rash. I have some topical steroid cream, I put that on and it cut the itching. The itching stopped when the strips fell off lol -

Undecided - please read on

I was on the fence about the 2 as well. I'm 24 without children. What made me choose the sleeve was that when I have children, I want to be able to bake gingerbread Cookies for Christmas, decorate them, and eat. I want to cook and teach my daughter how to cook and be able to taste her first cake or brownies. I don't indulge in sweets now. But I don't want to have to worry about dumping and not be able to enjoy my life in moderation. I am also a bit lax about Vitamins and RNY is strict about vitamins. I love my sleeve and am happy with my decision -
Hi, I posted some over 6-7 months ago. Bear in mind that I do not own a full length mirror, so these pics were real eye openers for me. Pardon the skin The first is me in November at 300/me at 173 The second is me at 6 months - 245/me today

I was stalled at 203 for a bit as well. Hang in there, follow the plan, and you'll get past it.

Using CPAP after surgery
SeriouslyChange replied to SuperKen's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have mild sleep apnea and wasn't required to use my cpap in the hospital because it was making it harder for me to breathe. I've been off it since surgery and have been doing great -
This past weekend, I went to the store with a friend and I wanted to buy some cute jeans, but they didn't have a size 16. I grabbed the size they had, a 10, and told my friend, "I'll fit in these one day, they are my new goal pants" Came home, my friend was insistent that I try them on. So I took off my pants and told my friend, "they're not going to make it past my thighs... I don't know why you're doing this to me..." The jeans fit. They fit perfectly. I could probably go down another size if I wanted them tighter. My friend told me that my clothes are always so big and that he had a feeling there was a smaller body under there somewhere. I'm still shocked. How have some of you gotten over this problem? I don't see my smaller self. When I look in the mirror I see a bigger girl looking back at me. It kind of makes me wonder what I really look like and if it looks healthy...

Does and one else worry about not waking
SeriouslyChange replied to marieelaine's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I said goodbye to family and friends and I was crying up until the anesthesiologist came into the operating room to put me out. Death was a real fear for me. I was 23 at the time of surgery and healthy, this was my first surgery, I was afraid that I would never wake up and that it would be over all due to one decision. I woke up in a lot of pain, lol. It's natural to have fear. Talk to your surgeon and ask him for his stats on complications and deaths. My first day of surgery preop, in a class of 30+ people, I asked the surgeon how many people have died on him. Made him and everyone else uncomfortable. He said that in their hospital, 1 patient died 14 years ago during an RNY. I ended up having the head of the Bariatric surgery team as my surgeon. Ask questions, as many as make you feel comfortable. No one cares what you ask, you want to have all of them answered so you know what you're getting into -

You essentially ended up with the same thing. It's not like you can go in and have them return your stomach to its normal size, it's forever smaller. The difference between the 2 is that the sleeve doesn't stretch much as the stretchy part of the stomach has been removed. There is a forum called plicationtalk from what I've read

What are some of the comments you get?
SeriouslyChange replied to Only1likeme's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Once everyone sees your committed, the negative comments stop. My brother up until 10 minutes before surgery told me "my offer is still on the table. I can pick you up right now and we can go home, start exercising, and you'll see that you didn't need this" I stayed at the hospital My family and everyone now sees how beneficial this surgery was for me and how much I've changed my eating habits. I knew that all the negativity was because they were scared for me. I do have a couple of old coworkers who are EXTREMELY jealous and will make comments. Go figure, I was one of the "big girls" before, and now that I've lost weight, apparently we can't be friends. It's okay though, thinking about it now, all I would do with those friends is eat junk food and gossip. Stay positive and remember that this surgery is only for you and no one else. -
