Hey is there anyone out there who has had, or is going to have VSG at Kaiser Permanente Fremont Ca? I am new to the process, just want more info on this facilities preop VSG protocol. I am not worried about the hospital because I used to work in the inpatient pharmacy, I am comfortable with the facility. Things like how long did you have to wait start to finish, preop diet, preop tests, which surgeon did you have etc.

Well I saw my Oncologist this afternoon. She said Kaiser's bariatric surgery guidelines are pretty firm. But said she would talk to the head of bariatrics. She thought at the very least they should have seen me, and get started on getting all my ducks in a row. Then when I reach my 5 my year breast cancer free mark I could hit the ground running. 2.5 years to go : (

I have Kaiser insurance and I was just turned down today. They said I needed to be 5 years out from breast cancer. I am only 2.5 years out. 2.5 years I'll be fatter and less healthy by then. Right now I have a greater chance of going full blown into diabetes or having a heart attack than I am of having a BC reocurrence. My chances of BC reocurrence are only 4%. Any pointers on how to get around this? Very sad.

Thank you, I have enlisted my ONC and my plastic surgeon as well. I didn't need to be cancer free for 5 years before I had breast reconstruction, now I can't finish reconstruction because I am to fat! This is a cruel joke. I will keep trying. -

Messing with hormones of any kind is WAY scarier than surgery to me. Besides WHO wants to feel pregnant agin? -
I am going for my first bariatric app in 2 weeks. I know it sounds silly but I think my BMI might be borderline. I have 2 of the co morbities. I am afraid they are gonna tell me to go on opti fast or WW or no surgery for you. Or....am I just not realistic about large I really am? Most of my life I was a skinny girl....really. It's only been the last 20 years that I have struggled and Failed with my weight. In my mind I see a skinny girl.........Oh but when I look in the mirror oh my do I see a fat girl. I am 5ft 6in and I weight between 225 and 219. I have gone to a WLS class and I got dirty looks from some of the people there. What! I am not fat enough? For one time in my life I will be sad to here that. Am I freeking myself out? Maybe.

58 And A Breast Cancer Survivor. Anyone Else Out There?
Pamelia Corbin replied to Pamelia Corbin's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Proud Grammy Wow another BC survivor! YAH! I thought I might be the only one. Now I don't feel nutty for thinking about this. I have Kaiser Permanente Insurance they cover weight loss surgery, as long as you have 2 of the co morbitites and your BMI is 35 or over. Lucky me! My mother was over 300 pounds when she passed and I can never remeber her not being over weight. She always told me my day would come and I would be fat too. : ( I managed to stay at a decent weight until I hit 45. Then it's been a losing battle ever since. I really packed on the pounds after my bilateral mastectomies and reconstruction. I wasn't allowed to do anything active for 5 months. Thank you helping me get my perspective right. CA reacurrance down 50% when not obese.......NO BRAINER! -
58 And A Breast Cancer Survivor. Anyone Else Out There?
Pamelia Corbin posted a topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi I am 58 years old and a 2.5 year breast cancer survivor. I thought I might be to old to have weight loss surgery. But here I am. I have fought to hard to live, to be obese the rest of my life. I look at it as a quality of life issue. Also the chance of recurrence goes down by 50% if I am not obese. I am due to have my first bariatric appointment in 2 weeks. What can I expect out of the first visit? Should I start losing weight now? I am very excited to start this new phase of my life! I have been married for 38 years, have 2 grown children, a 10 year old grand daughter and 3 chihuahuas! I just want to feel good again, my back, hips, knees, and feet hurt all the time. Our family went to Disney Land in October, and I could barely keep, I was silent, but I was miserable. That was an eye opener for me. 59 may sound old to some but inside I feel young. That young skinny girl wants to come out and play! -
