    April 2013 Post-Op Group

Thanks krystal ....you look amazing. Im still holding around 140 .....I injured my knee thinking I wanted to be a runner a few weeks ago...lol. I guess I should work up to that instead going full force ahead. Grammy, are you a slow loser too? I can eat average size portions now.....way more than the first year! What about y'all?

    April 2013 Post-Op Group

How are all the April 2013 post ops doing? I've met my surgeons goal but still haven't met my personal goal...I can eat so much more than i ever thought i would be able too ....Anybody else finding they can eat regular size meals now? On a good note...I have not really gained anything...just holding between 139 - 143. I was walking 15 - 20 miles a week and still not losing....Since the weather got cold...I just can't make myself get out there! Here's a pictue with my husband at Christmas time. I'm 51 so quite a bit older than the rest of you April peeps
  3. I'll be 50 in November ...Just starting my journey. Already met with the surgeon. Next week is nutritionist and then the 18th I have my psychological evaluation. After that, it will be submitted to insurance for approval. Keeping fingers crossed it all goes as planned. Can't believe i actually made that first step. Would love to hear other stories in our age group.

    Calcium supplement?

I use the chewables from vitacost. It's called calcium citrate with Vitamin D3 and Magnesium. I hated them when i first started taking them...Now they're like candy to me. I take two in the morning and two in the afternoon. Totals 1000 mg per day.
  5. I will break out in a sweat if i eat too fast. I'm a late dumper...it takes about a hour. I sweat if i drink my Syntrax nectar Protein drink too fast....I never cramped (wish i did)...just sweats and nauseous sometimes.
  6. Yes, i'm a slow loser and i've had rny over a year ago and just now met surgeons goal. I have not been perfect during this process and would never pretend to be. Someone very close to me just told me that i should be losing faster and that i'm flabby and that i should work on that. I had to come home and cry. I guess i'm hormonal or something...but this hit me hard ...Do any of you feel like you always have to defend what you are doing and feel like people are just watching your every move to see what you put in your mouth....This is the part i hate the most about others knowing I had RNY. I'm not done, i still want to meet "my" goal...but it has to me on my terms and on my clock. I'm just tired of defending myself to no end.

Thank you Carol...I do feel so much better and no longer have to take blood pressure meds and may be able to stop cholesterol soon. I will always have to take my thyroid meds though. This person is calling me...but i'm not answering my phone...LOL, I'm still thinking on how i'm gona tell her to butt out ....and stop raining on my parade!

    Feelings hurt bad :(

Thanks ladies for your support...I'll keep on truckin' and inching along. Y'all are wonderful, sincere and kind. Nobody but us can understand what we've been through and will continue to go through. Thanks goodness we have each other and the whole WLS community to turn to in times like these. It's made a huge difference in my mood already just reading your responces...and for that, i'm very greatful

    Feelings hurt bad :(

Thank you dbsylvest...I really, really needed to hear that. It is my journey and no one knows my struggles but me. I know i should not let it bother me...but gheesh, that really hurt my heart.
  10. I had rny and regretting i didn't do the duodenal switch. I think i would be losing faster. The sleeve was out of the question since I knew i needed the malabsorption and dumping to keep me on track. I don't really dump...just break out in sweats and feel nauseous some of the time...nothing bad.

Posting for updates...McKinney area would be nice!
  12. My pouch is hurting ...Yesterday, last night and today! I feel it contracting and moving and i get waves of pain. Anybody else experience this? I've been taking gas x strips and it's not helping.

    Waves of Pouch Pain

I was not taking a PPI after my rny...dr. never said that i should. He asked it i was taking any pain killers besides tylenol and i wasn't. He knew right off what it was by the way i described the pain. Sometimes i go a few days and not take it...and i can feel that ulcer pain again. I suppose i will have to take it the rest of my life also.

    Drain Tubes?

UPDATE: I did have a drain tube. It was removed 5 days later when i had to have emergency surgery to fix an incisional hernia. I was out like a light...so didn't feel it...Thankfully

    Drain Tubes?

Do all patients who have the rny procedure get drain tubes?

    Waves of Pouch Pain

I know it's been almost a year since i posted this question...LOL, thought i'd come back and let you all know that it was an ulcer. It would only feel better if i put something in my pouch to give the acid something to work on. I take an acid reducer everyday now and all is good

    Smoking

I bought my first kit thinking "yeah, just another gimmick"...did not really plan on quitting at the time. I just wanted to see what all the fuss was about. I knew after the first couple of drags off my ecig that i would never go back to cigarettes. It's trial and error finding the perfect vape for you...but once you find it, no reason to ever go back. You are getting the nicotine that your body is craving...simple as that ...plus as mentioned above...You don't have to go outside to smoke! I vape all day long in the house...Love it!!!

    50's

I turned 50 last month...had Surgery in April. It's a turtle pace for sure, but feeling so much better.

    Smoking

Here's my stash of e-cigs...It's a fun hobby for me

    Smoking

I quit 15 months ago with the e-cig. I'm sure there is a vape shop in your town to set you up. I started out using 18mg nicotine and now i'm using 0 nicotine. Sometimes when the urge is really bad, i will vape 6mg for a bit....but then it's right back to the 0 mg. This was the only way i could do it. You still go through the motions of smoking, you get throat hit and smoke (vapor)...Best decision i ever made besides RNY

What Protein Shakes Do You Use?

Just wanted to share that i found this absolute best tasting protein drink!..Does not have a hint of protein flavor to it...If you LOVE ice coffee...then you will love this!!! http://www.drvita.com/product/syntrax-nectar-whey-protein-isolate-powder-cappuccino-2.2-lbs/8664. I fill my shaker bottle up with 16 oz of water and ice with two scoops of this. I keep it in the fridge and sip on it throughout the day. For 16 oz it's only 180 calories and 46 grams of protein! I was drinking it all at once...but learned that the body can only absorb a certain amount of protein at a time. Go check it out if you love coffee flavors!!!!

    April 2013 Post-Op Group

Being more than 6 months out now...who in this April group has met your surgeons goal? I'm still 10 lbs shy of meeting his goal and and 29 lbs from meeting my goal! I'm very grateful for the pounds i have lost and feel so much better. No more blood pressure meds and cholesterol is now 160...but man, this is going at a snails pace!!!...oh, and i thought i was not a dumper...but after indulging in more than a few Christmas cookies...I discovered i am in fact a late dumper...but it's not too bad. Here's a pic from Thanksgiving with the huz. I really am not that small...i was squished up against him...LOL

BCBS of Il 6 month or no 6 month?

I have bcbs of illinois ppo and did not have to do the 6 month diet. All i had to do was the psych eval and meet with a dietitian one time. My surgeons office was able to tell me that on my first visit. Good Luck
