Well, things are still moving in the right direction, but I am still a bit nervous. I took off 7 lbs. pre-op, 22 lbs. week 1 & now 8 lbs. week 2. So, I am now down 37 lbs. & right on the border of going into the 370's. Don't get me wrong, I am happy for every pound that comes off. Every pound down is me a pound healthier & a step in the right direction. I just have been in the 380's on my own before in the past year, but was never able to break into the 370's. I think once I've hit that milestone & keep going down that I will breathe a little bit easier. I will know that, yes, this tool of getting the sleeve is helping me do something that I was not able to do on my own. Anyone else have similar fears at the beginning?

My husband just does not understand
deedeemuffin replied to alishalk's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I reacted the same way at first. When I smelled the bacon I literally said, "Are you kidding me? Do you not understand what I'm going through?!" He said he did and I just angrily said "Obviously, you don't". It wasn't until I calmed down & actually talked with him & straight out asked for his help that I got it. I hope that it goes well for you. I know how difficult this is being only 1 week ahead of you. We can do this! Be strong. -
My husband just does not understand
deedeemuffin replied to alishalk's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am 2 weeks post-op. I had to do the first week of just water. Now I am on shakes & water. I had the same issue with my boyfriend who I live with. He actually made bacon & eggs. It was torture. I just straight out asked him to not eat at home until I could at least move onto soft foods. I asked him nicely & explained how much I needed his help to be successful. Since then he has been great about eating away from home. Have you asked him to not eat in front of you? Sometimes men really need things spelled out. LOL -
Question: are you allowed to get a tattoo before surgery
deedeemuffin replied to nancysimmons21's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
If in doubt, call your surgeon's office. I have a couple of tattoos & there is always a risk for infection afterwards. They also require a lot of aftercare. Why not get the surgery first, see how you feel & then get the new tattoo? Anyway, I would check with the Dr. Good luck! -
Best protien shakes?
deedeemuffin replied to Ms.Cali's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Pure Protein RTD 12 oz. has 110 calories, 1g fat, 1g sugar & 23g protein. -
Definitely call your doctor. I know my doctor doesn't want me really lifting much of anything for a full 8 weeks. Also, if I have to bend they want it done from the knees & not the waist. I wouldn't take any chances.

How much liquid at a time?
deedeemuffin replied to crdevans's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I will be 14 days post-op tomorrow. I have been experiencing the same thing. I was concerned that my sleeve may have stretched. Other members here assured me that this is very normal & things will change as soon as we are allowed to eat anything even semi-solid. So, I am going to take their word for it. Good luck to you! -
Thank you. I have a feeling that I will be one of those people who fight for every pound. After not seeing the scale move for 4 days I am thinking about not weighing myself every day. I also am constantly reminding myself that the my sleeve is just a tool for me to utilize. It's not magic. It is nice to know that I am not alone.

This was very helpful. Thank you. I see the nutritionist finally this Friday. I am going to make sure that things are very clear before I leave the office.

Could my sleeve have stretched already?
deedeemuffin posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am only 12 days out of surgery & I'm concerned that my sleeve may be stretched already. Is that possible??? Up until today I have followed the Dr.'s directions perfectly. Getting in plenty of water. As a matter of fact I was on strictly water for the first week. This past week I have been allowed 3 protein shakes a day as well as water. I have been VERY hungry the past two days. Today I ate Bariwise pudding. It has 15g of protein & almost no fat or carbs. I ate one serving (a 1oz package mixed with 4oz of water). It went down easily. I didn't have any problems getting it down rather quickly & I am still hungry! I'm concerned that somehow my sleeve may have somehow been stretched already. Anyone have any input or similar experiences? -
Could my sleeve have stretched already?
deedeemuffin replied to deedeemuffin's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Thanks. I guess I really don't consider pudding as a liquid so I was pretty concerned. It is certainly much thicker than a protein shake. so, this is not uncommon? -
I am now ending Week 2 & moving on to Week 3 of my liquid diet. I meet the with the nutritionist on Friday to discuss my transition to soft foods next week. I was so stressed about another week of protein shakes & water. Well, my boyfriend just came home from his parents house & his mom had bought & put together a whole basket of things I didn't even know existed! Things from Bariwise, Wonder Slim and Proti Diet all filled with protein & meeting all my other nutritional guidelines...fruit flavored breakfast drinks, jello snacks, soups and also pudding. All have at least 15 grams of protein each. Amazing! I am super excited & so grateful that his mom took the time to do this for me. I'm pretty sure that I have to wait another week for the pudding, but that's okay.

Interesting. I have to say I have been having a weird feeling since surgery myself. I think that I feel where my old stomach used to be & now it literally feels like something is missing. Like I have a strange gap on my left side internally. Is that weird?

I know everyone here is at different stages in their journey. So, I am hoping that you have or are dealing with this & might have some good advice. I had my sleeve done 10 days ago. I had to do 7 days of clear liquids. I am now on day 3 of protein shakes & clear liquids. So, I am at 300 calories a day. I drink Pure Protein so I am getting in 23 grams of protein per shake. I am feeling totally exhausted & very spaced out. I am getting in plenty of water. I just feel like I need real food. I can't even tell you what I would do for just a bite of cottage cheese! Tonight my boyfriend made toast for himself & it smelled like the most amazing thing in the world. I almost lost it. I just want to lick a piece of cheese right now. Not eat it. Just taste it. I guess since the nutritionist hasn't set a specific amount of time for transitioning to pureed I am feeling desperate. Am I the only one? How do we get through this?

Sunshine, Thank you. You are the only person so far who's diet has been as restricted as mine. I too have done some crying. My boyfriend has now started eating out or in a part of the apartment where I can't see him. This has helped a little. I am just struggling with the fact that I thought that I wouldn't be hungry, but I really am. I get to start soft foods in one more week so, I am on a count down. I actually look forward to struggling with food of any kind. (Someone is probably going to have to remind me that I said that at one point. lol. Thank you for your post, though.

I know that it is probably better for my stomach in the long run. It is just so hard right now. The surgeon's office said that I can add sugar free ice pops. That really isn't a help to me. I've never liked ice pops. I am drinking 3 Pure Protein shakes a day. Each shake has 23 grams of protein. So, between those 3 shakes & all my Water, I think that I am doing the best I can. I meet with the nutritionist this Friday to go over my transition to mushy or pureed foods. It just feels like forever. I keep trying to tell myself that this part is almost over and just a blip in the rest of my life.

Every Dr seems to be pretty different. It makes me frustrated. I'm so jealous of people who are on pureed right out of the hospital. I had to do a full 7 days of only water. Now I'm going into week 2 of protein shakes & clear liquids. That's 3 weeks before I get to move onto what some people get on day one. I don't know if my Dr is extra cautious or found this is the best method? I really love there office so, I guess that I just have to trust them. I am CRANKY right now. LOL

I am on an antacid. It's Omeprazole 40mg, I definitely take it every day.I also make sure I get in my water. I always have something in my hand...either a protein shake or water. It's just not cutting it. I have I have 7 more days of liquids.

Thanks for the tip. I will definitely have to try this.

So here I am 4 days post op & I feel like I am in way over my head. I'm having a hard time just getting in water. I am due to start protein shakes tomorrow. I would love any advice for someone new. Also, how much are people moving to prevent blood clots?

I am one week out from surgery & down 22 lbs. I should be super excited. Losing 22 lbs. in a week is something I should be proud of, right? It's just that I have lost and regained the same 30 lbs. over & over again for the past few years. So, I guess I feel like I will know this is really working when I move past that 30 mark & keep moving. Has anyone else had a similar experience or any advice on this new journey?

I am only 7 days post-op. Pre-surgery I often skipped periods. I had my period just a week before surgery. I dropped 23 lbs. my first week & got my period today. Have you found since surgery that your period cycles are different? Do you also find that you are a little more "hormonal" than you were before surgery. Thanks in advance.

I am a week post-op. I am on shakes and some other liquids. I am SO craving a non-fat decaf latte. Too soon?

I'm So Hungry On The Pre Op Diet Does It Get Easier After The Sleeve?
deedeemuffin replied to tzepeda's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
I just got my sleeve done on 11/27. I was totally freaking out dealing without food pre-op. After surgery I find there are many things to deal with, but hunger isn't one of them. I have no appetite at all. I have moved from clear liquids to protein shakes. I have to remind myself to drink them because I'm not hungry. Good luck with your surgery.
