I have Bc/Bs of NJ, Medallion, I think it's a PPO, I got a response very fast, about 10 days. Everything was covered except the anesthesia. (I think they have fixed the anesthesia part by now.)

Holy cow!! That is fantastic!

I chew gum, I used to swallow it alll the time but was told that this was really bad for the band.

PLEASE HELP! is acid reflux a def sign of slippage?
seppi replied to aligirrl77's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Oh boy, I have been there. Last year got an unfill because of suddenly becoming too tight. Dr. sent me for an EGD, they saw irritation and abrasions but no slip and no erosion. I was put on nexium and slowly saw improvement, had to just about give up coffee and eating after PM. Got a small fill and tried to come off of the Nexium but started having the reflux again. Had another EGD and found that everything was perfect. So...I am still on Nexium and have a small fill and seem to be doing OK. I had my coffee back although it is not as much as before but at least I am not totally without. Have you tried elevating you bed or pillows to elevate you head and shoulder's? I found that that helped a little too. Good luck. -
I can't wait to try these. Thanks.

Has anyone tried appetite suppressants along with their band??
seppi replied to Connorsmom's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I was wondering,is this something that you get from the band doctor or your regular physician? What are the brand names? I remember taking Tenuate and Ionamin years ago but don't know if they were phentermine. -
YEAH for you!!! I haven't posted in a while, have been lurking,. Congrats, I quit in September and thought that I would balloon up 100 pounds. I was able to gain a very small amount and have since taken it off. I think that you have made a great decision. I didn't have to quit before the surgery, the doctor wanted me to but didn't require it. Good luck, you will feel so much better. (After 8 days the psycho craze should be all but gone)

Protein puddings for all you that can't eat breakfast folks.
seppi replied to Kayford's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Excellent, was hoping to find something I could eat with my new found restriction. Thanks!! -
I am about 2 1/2 months out from quitting. I tried several times, before surgery, after surgery, this time I knew it was time. I have been trying to keep my hands busy, crocheting and lots of time on the computer. I can't say its;s been easy buy it isn't my only thought right now, the 1st 2 weeks it was all I could think about.

Horizon Blue Cross Blue Sheild Of New Jersey?
seppi replied to Chris1982's topic in Insurance & Financing
I was approved in less than 3 days. My BMI was 40 and no other problems. They were quick, the only problem I had was after the fact with the anesthesiologist-not all was covered, usual and expected was very different than what was charged. Good luck. -
I have 1 cup a day, Had to give it up for a while when I was having horrible reflux. So far the 1-1 1/2 cups a day are fine. They say you have to drink extra water if you are going to have caffeine.

I know how hard it can be to change schedules. I have always had an easier times on day shift. My Y opens really early and I have gone a few times before work.Is this possible or is there a gym at work? Also, when I know I am going to work late I measure things out the night before and just pack my lunch and dinner. There is nothing that you cannot do in the morning or afternoon that you could do at other times. You have come so far and done so well, don't let this schedule change get you down, good luck.

I was unfilled completely for about 5 months because of severe reflux. I recently got a very small fill and would love to get a little more but my Dr. wants to wait and see if I have any more problems. So far so good.

I have finally quit smoking. I have quit many times before but this is going to be the last time. I had my last cigarette on Saturday night and am doing OK. I haven't physically hurt anyone, been a bit crabby but not too bad. I really haven't been too bad with the food. Started walking more so I wouldn't eat. WHY HAVE I GAINED 5 Pounds??? Could my metabolism be slowing down without the nicotine? I am a bit constipated but not 5 pounds worth. I know in my head why it is good to quit and that 5 pounds is nothing but I am scared that it will turn into 80 and I will be back where I started. I have very little restriction and cannot get a fill for a while ( another story) Any ideas? I need this to be the last time, I really don't want to die from cigarettes but there has to be something... Friends say it will even out but no one can say when...

I have quit ( a lot and for extended periods ) before and I NEVER got to the point that I didn't want a smoke. I have decided this time that I have done so many things to get healthy -why am or should I say- was doing the worst possible thing In My Control. Some things that happen cannot be controlled but this I can beat. I will just do it. I hope that everyone else quitting is doing it for the last time too.
-
Of course there is hope. I recently quit and have put on a few pounds. I am going to see about getting a fill, I have been trying to increase my exercise too. I am trying to find things to do with my hands other than putting food into my mouth. My regular doctor told me that he'd rather have me 50 pounds overweight than to have me smoke.

HE HE Almost a month and I have been pretty good, had one little relapse but decided it wasn't worth it. I have gained 4 pounds but I know that I will take it off. Dawn- Have you tried to come up with something to do instead. I have been chewing a lot of gum (I know I am making people nuts with my chomping) and have started to crochet, I am not very good but it keeps my hands busy and is kinda fun, seeing the blanket come along. Also I have been putting my cigarette money in a jar. I will spend it on myself when I hit 6 months. I really need this to be the last time I quit and I cannot gain any more weight. I tried to tell myself that if I gain I will start again but then I realized that I really don't want to start again.

Where on earth did you find 1 pound of fat like that? I would have guessed that it was more than 1 too. Gross. Makes me kind of proud about last weeks loss.

I had my gallbladder out a few months ago. Standing didn't help and the attacks lasted for quite a while. I have also developed reflux and it sounds pretty much like what you are experiencing. Could you be too tight? My reflux developed after a tight fill and hasn't really gone away yet. (even after a complete UN-fill) Call the doctor and have them check you out or get a referral to a gastro doctor.

Lapband post op. vs Gallbladder removal post op
seppi replied to Malice X Girl's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I had my gallbladder out, no real instructions about the tape but I was told to stay low fat for a month. I didn't have any problems with the recovery, I felt it was easier than the band. Good luck. -
Sounds a lot like what I went through. My ultrasound was good too, they ended up doing a HIDA scan, that showed that the gallbladder wasn't functioning properly. I had it out, no more pain and no more trips to the ER. I am really glad I had it out and my recovery was easier than the band surgery (I had no stones so it was a pretty simple operation)

Thanks everyone, I am so happy that I am doing this and I am not eating everything in sight.

NSV I look forward to, anyone else with me?
seppi replied to laphappy's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Yes...And to be able to wear the smock thing. I usually wear an old sweatshirt and say that I don't want the robe because I get too cold.
