I am having serious second thoughts about my upcoming surgery. I am scheduled for the 24th of this month. I have been following the south beach program and have lost 15 pounds so far in 14 days.( I have about 85 to go to my goal) I feel I am really clicked into it and am considering cancelling or at least postponing my date. I mean if I can follow this program without the aid of the band then why put myself through the risk of surgery. Has anyone gone through this phase. Am I nuts to think that I can follow this on my own?????

THank you so much for your thoughts. You are right about 1 thing I have lost the weight before and have always gained it back. I even went down to about 185 at one point. I of course gained it back, and then some. I have been on one diet or another for the last 20 yearss. I am at about 250 right now, I am not a big person, so maybe I should just look at this as a step in the right direction towards a better life and health.

How long did others have to take off from work? I am hoping to take only 4 days. Is this unreasonable? I really don't want to use all of my time. Especially with the "new me" waiting to come for the summer.

HI I am new to this site. I have just received insurance approval. My surgey is scheduled later this month. I guess I am scared but more excited than anything. I have one question,. My doctor wants me to quit smoking prior to the surgery. I think that trying to quit 2 major addictions at the same time could be self defeating. Any ideas??

Hi Lauren, I am new to the site too, I am going to be banded about the same that you are. My kids are alittle older but the same things apply for me. I want to be able to do things with them. I know I avoid things now. My biggest thing right now is that I do not want anyone at work or socially to know that I have had this procedure. I have told a few friends and my family (well part of them) Good Luck and let me know how you are doing.

I too have a "bb job" I am hoping that I can go back after 4 days. The only problem is that It can, at times, become a very physically demanding job. ( running and becomming physically involved) I will let you know.

well, I had my pre-op appointment today, the doctor had horror stories about those who smoke so... I am going to quit in 8 days, it will be 1 week smoke free before the surgery. I have decided that I need to get healthy and this will be one huge step towards that.

Thanks, sometimes I feeel like I should be able to do this myself. This site is wonderful, it lets others see the "real" effects.
