    Excuses

I have a long week of formal dinners and drinks my first week back at work that i can't skip. To make matters worse, there's always gossip at these events that when a woman doesn't drink she MUST be pregnant. I plan to eat soup for dinner, and use the excuse that I needed something light after all the other nights of heavy meals. For the drinks I'm going to tell the waiter ahead of time to bring me virgin drinks, regardless of what I order. A friend did this when she was pregnant and didn't want people to know yet.
  2. So I was feeling a little under the weather today, and on a hunch took my temperature- low grade fever. The flu has been going around both my and my husbands office, and I'm worried that I may be getting it. My surgery is scheduled for the 28th- obviously if I'm sick, I'll need to push the surgery out- any idea how long I'd have to wait after being better? UGH... though being sick could help with my liquid pre-op diet that I start tomorrow

    Newbie Here!

Welcome! I have bcbs of Massachusetts, though i live in NJ, and had similar requirements to your part A. My BMI was at 40 for the first 2 months of my 3 months, but dropped to 39 on my third month. My insurance coordinator told me that neither high blood sugar, high cholesterol, nor pcos wouldn't count as a comorbidity. I went through a sleep study for sleep apnea, and was dashboard as a result of that study. Based on what you described, you may need something else to be approved, but talk to the person at your surgeons office; he/she should be able to tell you for sure.
  6. That's so great to hear! I'm also getting surgery on Jan 28th. I have a family wedding in may, which is the first time I'll be seeing most of my family after surgery, so I've been curious about the same thing-thanks for all the feedback!

    I got my date!

Congrats!! I just got my date for January 28 too! You must be so excited!!
  8. I had a talk with my very thin mother tonight about my 2nd consult today and all of the potential complications, as well as the fact that I'll need to delay pregancy for a 18 months or so after surger to which she replied, "Well Jessica Simpson lost 75lbs on Weight Watchers, and she's already pregnant again- maybe you should try that?" Um really? 1. odds are Jessica Simpson doesnt have PCOS. 2. She lost 75lbs off of her pregnancy weight- 10lbs of it came off in a day when she gave birth! (I have no kids, so I dont know what losing pregnancy weight, but I strongly feel like it must be easier than losing "regular" weight, but I could be wrong) 3. She's Jessica freakin Simpson- She's being paid to lose weight by weight watchers! Its not an accurate representation of the average person who does weight watchers! 4. I've tried that (and south beach, and every other diet out there) I lose weight and gain it back and then some- we've established ths every year since high school. UGH! My mother has been incredibly supportive throughout the whole process thus far, and even after she suggested this, and we talked further she continued to be supportive, but this comment just made it clear how much she doesnt understand what its like to be overweight.

    Esophagus Complications?

That's great! I was supposed to meet with my surgeon today, but she had an emergency and couldnt meet, so I met with another surgeon in the practice-It was actually really good to get a second opinion on everything- he reiterated what she said about the band, and reassured me that my cough and the esophagitis would not cause complications with the sleeve surgery. We went through all of the complications in detail, and he told me what they do to prevent them and diagnose them if they do occur. He was very blunt about the complications, which was something I've been looking for, because although rare, they do happen and I want to be fully aware of what i'm getting myself into. I scheduled a follow up with my surgeon in mid/late december, at which point I'll be ready to submit to insurance (assuming all goes well with they psych eval next week). Thanks for the feedback!
  10. Hi All- I'm new to the site- I was leaning towards a band, but during my pre-op consult I mentioned to my surgeon that I have Eosinphyllic Esophagitis- basically my esophagus will spasm and I'll get food stuck in my throat (only happens with certain foods, happens only about once a week or so). I was given a presription for it when I was diagnosed about a year ago, but it doesnt happen so often, and I'm able to push food down with a piece of bread, so I stopped taking the prescription. According to my surgeon, because the band blocks food from entering the stomach quickly, it can force food to stay in the esophagus, and if my esophagus spasms, it will make things incredibly difficult for me. She said there's a chance I wouldnt be able to have solids at all. She highly recommended the sleeve, and I've been researching and lurking for the past month since my appointment. She said that because it doesnt block the food from entering the stomach, its enough of a 'funnel' to prevent food from backing up into the esophagus. I have a follow up appointment with her tomorrow, and at this point I'm excited about moving forward with the sleeve. But I'm still concerned about potential complications and want to be sure I don't rush into anything. Anyone out there with the same or a similar condition? How has the sleeve worked out for you? On a separate note- I have a chronic violent cough (caused by acid reflux)- can coughing inrease the risk for leaks? I'm going to talk to the surgeon about all of this tomorrow, but any feedback from you guys would be helpful!
