Things I will NOT miss about being fat.
rswa3319 replied to unbesleevable1's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Let's see.... I'm sure I made a list pre surgery but let's make another one now that I'm pretty much at goal. I'll compare the two later lol 1. I won't miss having to look up weight/size limits for rides at amusement parks 2. I won't miss not being able to go on the rides at the fair with my kids. 3. I won't miss having to shop at "old lady" stores for clothes in my 20s. 4. I won't miss being afraid to fly because I might encroach into someone else's seat. And some things that I THOUGHT would change but haven't yet.... 1. Being self conscious about my breathing or getting out of breath 2. Always worrying about if I'm clean or if I stink 3. Hating having to squeeze around someone and accidentally bumping them 4. Always feeling the fastest person in the room 5. Feeling my fat tummy squish out when I sit down. -

If I'm completely honest with myself MOST of these were mine too!! -
When did you stop cleaning your inscisions and just let them air out and heal naturally?
rswa3319 replied to Italiancurves's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I literally never touched mine at all. I'm used to tattoo and piercing care so competitively I did nothing at all. In reality what I did do was use antibacterial dial soap in the shower and let them get plenty of air from day one. I never had more than some steri-strips and skin glue though. By day 3 post op they were already healed. -
Hello everyone! So I'm coming up to my 1 year anniversary very quickly (surgery date was 12-12-12) and I'm at goal weight. I've never been able to get down more than 850 calories in a day and I'm wondering what in the heck am I going to do to get to the 1200 calorie maintenance mark?? Also I think it's kinda funny but I live with mfp app in my hand. If I have food in front of me I have the app open on my phone. I know I'm a little obsessed but I also have OCD so I'm not too terribly worried about that part. I'm more concerned with what people do for maintenance mode? Food choices, calorie intake, work outs etc. Thanks for the help guys!

All of my December sleevers...

Keep us posted?? My goal was 150 and as of last weekend I was 154 so as scary as it is I'm moving into maintenance mode soon. -
Well I went to my high school reunion over the weekend and on all the rush I forgot to bring myself anything to wear the day after while visiting family so I had to run to Wal-Mart to grab some jeans and a sweater, nothing fancy just cheap and something that FIT. Normally I would just steal my mom's clothes but I'm no where near the right size to wear them anymore. Anyway, I have been wearing 10/8 jeans depending on the cut bit I had noticed they weren't really sitting 100% so I tried on some 8s and they were too baggy so I grabbed a pair of 6s and left without even trying them on since my family was waiting for me. I got back to my mom's and reluctantly slipped on the 6s. They were tighter than I'm used to on my calves as I tried to pull them up so I did what I always have done and started to think of all the reasons why I didn't like the jeans anyway so it wouldn't hurt so bad when I was too fat for them... but they slipped up. And then they defied nature and buttoned... and zipped! And they FIT! Every day, every size, that passes is new uncharted territory for me. I've never been this small even in high school so it's exciting and terrifying! Lol but I'm enjoying the new jeans.

I don't know... I don't worry about losing too much weight but my family does. My daughter (almost 5) is afraid I'm going to "disappear" and my mom has started in on it too. Apparently I've reached the weight they are no longer comfortable with. I have 10lbs to goal and aside from being bony in my shoulders everything else still has a padding of fat. So I don't know... I passed point of comfort a long time ago when I got under 200. That was 40lbs ago though so I don't know how I feel about it now. Lol -
Holy ITCHY incision sites Batman!
rswa3319 replied to endless80's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hehe mine itched like crazy too!! I just scratched around them. It's not perfect but it certainly helps. Hot showers help too for whatever reason. Thankfully it doesn't last forever though! 9 months out they itch every once in a while but at least now I can scratch them. I also had the skin glue and in one of my sites I had a piece of the dissolving stitches poking through the glue. I actually talked to my surgeon about it and he said he'd never seen that before, made a comment about me being overly gentle and said if I was up to it all it would take would be a little exfoliation and it would come right off. Lol most bizarre conversation I've ever had with a doctor. Well...aside from the importance of bowel movement consistency after giving birth to my daughter. LOL -
I stopped drinking sweet Protein drinks almost as soon as I started. Unflavored protein mixed with broth or Soup. WAY better than the nasty sweet stuff.

All of my December sleevers...

It's funny to hear everyone's different opinions on weight goals. I THOUGHT that 150 was going to be tiny and that's the goal weight my surgeon has for me. Heck, I thought 175 was going to be tiny. Im now 164 (last time I checked was a little over 2 weeks ago) and I feel like I have at LEAST 20-30lbs more that could easily come off which would put me around 135-145. Never in a million years would I think that I would be 150 let alone less than that. But it's becoming more and more apparent that yes, my frame is a lot smaller than anyone thought. I'm extremely wasp waisted and come to find out I have very small legs and arms. Who knew?? I'm 5' 6 1/2" and at 164 I wear a s/m top, size 8 jeans and size 8 dress. All that being said my surgeon said that most people hit their lowest weight and then typically gain back about 10-15 lbs so the lower you go right out the gate the better. -
It's a naturally fermented probiotic drink that's supposed to be REALLY good for you. I had bleeding ulcers for over 10 years and part of my issues revolve around the fact that my stomach hates everything and hurts no matter what I eat. That's thanks to the ulcers not the sleeve. Anyway... kombucha helps my sleeve by keeping healthy bacteria flourishing (probiotics) and by keeping it pliable. Aka carbonation stretches my sleeve just enough to make eating tolerable. Not at the same time but over the course of the day.

My phone's auto correct really likes abs instead of and for some reason. My weight was hormone related not caloric intake related, that's all. Sorry I was posting late last night. Hehe

Will I still enjoy cooking for my Family after Sleeve?
rswa3319 replied to Blondi418's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I think you will... I do. There was a small period where I was the grinch about it lol but I got over that. I love it again. Maybe it was just bad because I had my surgery less than two weeks before Christmas. -
Honestly?? I want none. I can't stand to look at any part of myself naked. Before when I was fat I was rounded and filled out. Now I'm like a stick with melted marshmallow. Not diggin' it at ALL.
-
I was actually drinking kombucha on purpose to help with my sleeve. It stretched it enough that I can eat almost half a cup of food at a time. I can burp on command (only girl growing up around guys lol) so I can release the gas as needed. I use carbonation of any kind now to help keep my sleeve pliable. If I don't have anything at all I tend to have issues getting any food down at all that is more than a bite or two. Lightly carbonated is the key though... so over ice I have to agree with. Oh and I'm also 9 months out.

Eating right toffee crunch ice cream bars... 80 calories and 11g carbs. sugar free Jello with whipped cream. Sugar free popsicles "Fun sized" candy bars if I need the calorie boost that day but these tend to give me a cold sweat that's not all that fun. Also... arctic zero. YUM! Worth looking up.

For me? No... if anything my health is worse now. Before I was fat but damn healthy now?? Blood sugar levels are hard to keep level (I know because I use my mom's meter who has it because she's paranoid lol) my heartburn is worse now than it ever was before, I have aches and pains in all my joints and 2/3 of my hair fell out.... I'm 9 months out and I still feel like I'd rather if stayed fat and that if I knew everything they told me wasn't going to be true for me I would have ran for the hills. But then again I am pretty damn vain... so maybe I would have done it anyway. I'm one of those who had literally NEVER been a healthy weight from puberty on. Come to find out its hormone related abs had very little to do with what I ate. I've lost over 100lbs but that's because for the first 4 months I was at 200 calories a day MAX then 400 max and now I max out at 8-900. I've yet to come anywhere near 1000 a day. Soooo yeah... not a health fix for me. I was healthy before and had no comorbidities now I'm 164 lbs and have more issues than I can count. Maybe my body is just freaking out biologically because technically 260-270 WAS the weight it was maintaining at 1500-1800 calories a day.

I am allowed to take ibuprofen if I need it. That's why I chose the sleeve verses any other surgery. I have migraines that I control with ibuprofen too the tune of 1200mg at a time but it's a one shot deal. I however have not needed to take that high of a dose since I've started losing weight. I take Tylenol first... no change in pain? Move on to 200mg of ibu if that doesn't work within 30 minutes I take 1 more ibu and I haven't had that fail to work yet.

So at the gym I had a couple really amazing moments. First I weighed in out of ritual and found out I'm down a couple more pounds and I'm now 167. Woohoo! Which made me excited to work out even harder. Did a full 5k distance in a little under 29 minutes on the elliptical followed by half an hour of circuit training where I upped all my max weights. I was pretty pumped by this point so I hopped back on the elliptical to do my fastest mile ever, 8.30 flat! Added one more mile to make it an even 5 and then off to the massage chairs. I love days like today!!
