    Syracuse sleevers

I lived there for 4 years...went to SUNY-ESF and worked at the starbucks on s.u. hill. Lived on tipp hill. I now live in Hawaii, but still consider my self part "new yorker". Does that count???
  2. It feels good when you go clothes shopping and everything you thought you would fit is too big!

  3. I will almost make 6 months post op, and I have a great many things to be thankful for. We all strive to hit numbers on the scale, but it is all the little accomplishments that really make a difference in how we feel and the way we move. I've compiled a list of all the things I have noticed since surgery that have changed for me. 1. My blood pressure has dropped 20 points (*note that I have never had high blood pressure) 2. I have dropped 2 shoe sizes 3. I started out doing 15 minutes of cardio and can now do 2 hours non-stop of medium to intense cardio 4. Foot pain is GONE 5. Knee pain is GONE 6. Back pain/sciatica is very rare 7. Migraines have subsided and only come about when I get a massage or have a lot of neck tension 8. I don't need an extension for the airplane 9. I am now considered a regular at the gym 10. I am able to look in the mirror more and for longer periods of time 11. I rarely need to take a nap in the middle of the day 12. I can work a 8 hour shift with no problem...used to work only 4 hours because my back and feet would be killing me 13. pants size went from 28/30 to 20 14. I am seeking out new active things to do instead of avoiding them 15. I don't have any bathroom problems: (this one is quite embarrassing), but I used to have a lot of issues...even wiping my ass where I would be in tears because I couldn't reach! I don't have any of these problems anymore 16. Sex is way better! Being on top is an option now and an enjoyment :0) 17. I get a compliment every day 18. My towels fit completely around me now 19. I am more social 20. I watch less tv 21. I need my husband's help less with everything 22. I am 14 pounds away from being the same weight as my husband!!! 23. I enjoy working out 24. I am comfortable with what and how I eat...I don't obsess anymore 25. I am now trying to motivate others 26. I am so busy living my life that it is hard to get on the computer and post blogs...I'm trying though
  4. thank you everyone! I have one more to add! 12% body fat lost!!!

    Gym etiquette.....is it just me......

good for you to say something. this ****** is probably used to people just letting him get away with that crap...NEGATIVE REINFORCEMENT! I have a list of gym annoyances. I applaud you for being diplomatic...I don't know if I would have done the same.

    When to start drinking alcohol?

almost 6 months out and haven't touched it. I can't imagine drinking it because of the way I think it will make me feel. Too scared to do it. I don't like the uncomfortable feeling or feelings of acid reflux.
  7. yeah i agree...I think people are more likely to say something if they know you are trying to lose weight. If they don't know, then they might feel like they might embarrass you. I mean what if your weight loss was because you were going through an illness that they did not know about and it wasn't intentional...then they would feel really bad as would I.

    Seriously? Does everyone exercise?

Maybe your body is resisting because you are so close to your goal weight. I mean the closer we come to our goal weight the more our body freaks out and tries to maintain. I love to exercise! The only time I don't enjoy it is when it causes me some sort of pain. if you truly don't enjoy exercising, then I agree with everyone else...find something you enjoy.

    Hair loss?

Mine started at about 2 months post op. No bald spots, but I had extremely long hair which I opted to cut short because the way my hair was falling and parting was making it look like I had bald spots. After I got my hair cut short, it wasn't even noticeable. I am now 5 months post op and the hair loss has slowed. I can tell because I vacuum a whole lot less than I used to a month ago. I used to vacuum several times a day because I have a white ceramic floor and I could see all the hairs on it and it would drive me crazy!!! Not because of the mess necessarily, but because I was reminded of how much hair was actually falling off my head! I don't need to vacuum every day anymore so that is an improvement.

    Mirror Mirror

yes. actually a lot of photos people post of their before and afters...I usually think they look much older in their afters. Of course, they are older!!! I think it just comes with the territory you know? We have fat in our faces that fill them out and make us have less wrinkles. As we get skinnier, it unfills showing our wrinkles and probably sagging a little. Saggy skin will also come with those of us who have a lot of weight to lose which causes the aging look. I wouldn't worry about something you can't control. Just know that even if you do look a little aged...your body will feel 20 years younger with the weight off.
  16. i think the key is to keep it dry

    i am such a hypocrite!

I live this every day. I've always been very aware of my surroundings. My husband is about 50 pounds over weight. He also promised he would change his lifestyle after I got surgery. I am 5 months post op and he has just recently started doing cardio a few times a week. I watch him everyday in disgust as he stuffs his face. I absolutely hate going out to eat because I get so frustrated with the money I have to spend on getting something when I only eat like a fourth of it and with the choices that I am usually presented. When we go out to eat I sit there and watch him shovel the food in his mouth. I feel like a hypocrite because I used to shovel food into my mouth too!!! He doesn't even chew. I have only recently started saying small things...basically the things I've learned from my psychologist like smaller bites, chewing my food 30 times, putting my fork down. I've seen him try to slow down, but he has admitted there is no way he is going to chew his food 30 times. I am constantly disgusted by myself, knowing that I used to be like all these people around me. I notice everyone around me and how they eat. I don't purposefully try to look at them, but when you have to sit there and eat super slow and chew your food and wait its hard not to look around because you have nothing else to do. I am usually done eating before everyone else so even more so I am looking around at other people. It is really sad that society eats this way. We are rushed by everything...time, children, jobs, agendas...no wonder we just rush through eating. I can't really blame my husband because I used to be like that. I just hope that he puts more effort into eating slower and practice mindful eating. It is not healthy! He only eats once or twice a day and it bugs me. I understand how you feel.

    one month since surgery

you are doing wonderful! you should be proud of 20 pounds in a month. I only lost 19!!! As far as the sugar goes, I had a cookie yesterday and immediately felt sick. I've felt sick before, but never from sugar...I think its the combination of sugar and fat??? I've found that I don't like to eat bread. I am also starting to notice myself shying away from dense protein and going more for things like tuna or soft fish. I just don't like the discomfort I feel when it goes through my chest. I am 5 months out and still have trouble eating every two hours...and by the time I eat...I am famished. I really hope I can kick this habit!!! Well, I eat to fast sometimes when I am hungry and those dense things just feel so yucky in my chest...one of them being bread. I used to try bread every once in awhile when it looked good, but I don't even try anymore because I know how it feels. I know what you mean about people noticing something different, but can't put their finger on it. Post pictures woman! So I know what you look like.

    Adjusting to a new body

I think the more weight I lose the more I am comfortable with looking in the mirror. At my heaviest, I barely even glanced at mirrors, avoided cameras, and just wasn't comfortable at looking at myself. I think part of the problem is we actually look at ourselves more when we are thinner and the longer we look...the more we notice the little things that aren't perfect.

    Questions to my colored sisters

It will go away. This is common with dark nationalities. In the polynesian culture you see it a lot with Samoan, Hawaiians, etc. I don't have that, but I have it around my neck.
