Prevent excess skin
Tvorceskiy replied to noellegz1's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Fish oil, vitamin E, keeping your skin moisturized should help, but from what I have read it takes time for your skin to catch up! -
Denied. Service Not Covered.
Tvorceskiy replied to ArcusX's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I too have Cigna through an employer. Although the employer claims that the surgery is 'cosmetic regardless of medical necessity' instead of just 'too risky'. I'd rather go forward at this point and discuss payment options should it come down to it. At this point I can't get insurance elsewhere because of the weight and my comorbities and even if I did it would end up costing more to get another insurance plan. Think of the money and time you put into it thus far as something less to do later. Your surgeon's office seems to be ready to fight for you! And from what I have seen on this forum they generally win *knock on wood*! -
Psychologist evaluation?
Tvorceskiy replied to oklafarmgal's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
For people with an emotional disorder those questions aren't stupid. They are anything but. The psychologist needs to make sure you're psychologically sound before going through with the surgery because not only is it a life changing procedure, but the rapid weightloss messes with your hormones which can cause depression. You may be able to answer those 'stupid questions' easily but some people can't. -
I have cigna and I know they cover the surgery. I've studied their policy inside and out. Just to make sure my plan really did cover the surgery I called them today only to learn that my father's employer (who I am covered under for another year) has chosen to still consider bariatric surgery as "cosmetic". It sucks because I was so hopeful that I could finally get healthy and feel good. I know the surgery will cost them less in the long run...but is there anyway I could appeal to his employer? Anyway around this other than self pay?

Is It Ikay Not To Tell Anyone About My Little Secret?
Tvorceskiy replied to iris26's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
So far I have only told my brother whom I live with (we are very close) and eventually told my sister-in-law. I am waiting to tell my mother until everything is set in stone. -
Congratulations!!! I hope your recovery goes well!

I have been looking into wls for years; when I was 18 I was up to the point of scheduling a surgery date for the lapband but ended up losing my insurance before I could get it done. Now, at 25 I am finally ready to take the plunge again. After finding this site through a local hospital I have decided that vsg is for me (after lurking for quite a long time!). Tomorrow I go in and finally start my journey of wls...again. But this time I won't be backing out, for any reason! Hopefully soon I will be thin, fit, and healthier than I have ever been!

The Journey Begins Tomorrow
Tvorceskiy replied to Tvorceskiy's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Thank you, everyone!! My Doctor agreed that wls is the way to go for me and will support me the whole way! I've gotten the go ahead to visit a surgeon for a consult which I'll do ASAP. I'm so excited to start this journey, and I'm so happy to have found this forum. =)
