I think some people miss out on tone and expression that is lost in text. However, sometimes people make posts about cheating in the beginning stages post-op and that frustrates some especially when people have dealt with leaks and don't want others to go through the same thing. We need to support one another, and while it's okay to disagree and argue with good points, we need to remain respectful. There are some mean people, but not everyone is. I'm grateful for this board and a lot of advice and experiences that I have read. Just try to ignore the negativity, and if need be, take a break and come back after a while.

Thanks for the advice everyone! I guess like most of you said, it takes time to get used to it. Just gotta get the hang of it. I think not ordering drinks when out is a good idea, even if I get odd looks/remarks from servers. My mother offered me tea right after I finished Breakfast this morning, and I said I CAN'T DRINK A HALF HOUR AFTER I EAT! So, even the temptation is there from family :[

Dec. 17 Sleevers - How are you on week out?
castiel replied to sars's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
That's great you're already exercising. I'm just doing walking, but on Tuesday I'm cleared for the gym! I should've taken my measurements pre-surgery. But I remember measuring my waist and hips a few weeks before surgery, so when I get back to school I can't wait to find my measuring tape. The pain does get better, as you've seen. I used to have pain getting up out of bed, but now, NONE! Walking long distances at first made my stomach muscles feel like it's on fire. Now if I walk too much, it's not bad at all. Best of luck on your journey! Sounds like you're doing great. -
Yes, I did! I weighed exactly the same as I did that morning :[ I don't know what's going on. I'm just hoping exercising will help. I wish you best of luck with your surgery. As far as complications, lactose intolerance, nausea, and pain, I have had a wonderful journey with no issues except constipation. I hope you don't have to deal with constipation a lot either; it can be painful! But it seems that it's common with VSG patients. Once I move to normal foods and get into a groove, I'm going to incorporate as much fiber like metamucil and chia/flax seeds when I can.

How long before we can swallow whole pills
castiel replied to slatter's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
i'm three weeks out and i swallow all of my pills. however, Calcium pills are very difficult, so i stick to the chewables with those. i found that Vitamin c pills make me nauseous also, what about sprinkling them on some pureed apple sauce or on pudding? -
Dec 18th sleevers how are you?
castiel replied to thensley820's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
The main thing I've read on here is: EAT SLOW. baby bites, baby sips, continuously through out the day to make sure you're getting in everything -
I have no issues with muscle milk LIGHT. there's no lactose in it either. I drink both vanilla and chocolate. I'm a little bored with it, but it goes down with no issues. (Sometimes I do feel a little gasy though)

Dec 18th sleevers how are you?
castiel replied to thensley820's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was sleeved dec 17th, however I haven't experienced any nausea, except one time I tried to take a Vitamin C tablet on New Year's eve because I was getting sick. That was awful. Did your doctor prescribe you an anti-nausea sublingual medication? That should help with those feelings. I'm thinking once I move to solid food is when I'll experience nausea. So I plan on filling my script soon -
I'm drinking nectar chocolate truffle. i normally mix it with skim milk and it's awesome. i tried it with Water today just to see, and it was yucky! so maybe for any protein mix you buy, try it with both water and skim milk to see if it might make it taste better

amazing! congratulations!

I met with my dietician and surgeon today. My Nut was impressed with my 20 pound weight loss 11 days post-op but she told me to take two multi-vitamins and asked me about my calcium (I really need to start taking my chewables). However, I am up two pounds from two days ago, but maybe it's because my scale and the doctor's scale are different. I've also had no issue with getting liquids down what so ever and my dietician said I was very lucky. (I THINK I AM!) She asked me about acid reflux. I said I didn't have any or nausea. yay! But my BM's have become more difficult and I'm getting some serious gas pains and burping. She said it was normal. I just hope it doesn't last forever! My surgeon told me I could remove my steristrips when I get home. I did, and man it's weird. MY INCISIONS ARE SOOOOOO TINY! like we're talking a centimeter and the biggest one is maybe 2cm. I think with time I might not have scars at all. He told me when I start pureed food I need to go very slow or else I'll throw up. I'm starting those on New Year's eve dinner. woohoo for manicotti. I'm still having major gas pains today and I already went to the bathroom this morning. Also, after I sip things like soup or muscle milk, I get pains that feel like gas, and I burp. Not fun :[ I don't think it's a leak, but now I'm paranoid of strictures. I guess once I get to soft foods I'll find out.
-
Thank you! The pain has went away while eating. But I still have a hard time telling when I'm full. I can only tell when I'm full when it gets to the point where I feel like it's creeping back up my esophagus. I don't slime or anything though.

two year weight histoty
castiel replied to DanaMomto3's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I used my GYN as well as one from my regular doctor for Aetna. You should be fine! -
yes, I also heard from a sleeve friend who had Dr. Noyan, that Sabina has left. I was shocked because she didn't mention anything to me when I saw her less than a week ago!
-
When is the support group meeting in January? I was sleeved by Dr. Noyan on 12/17 at RWJ. I'm also from the Hamilton area :]

When I drop my weight, I'm going to try (insert answer)!
castiel replied to PetraLuxor's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm going to try: rock climbing, cycling (and compete in a race), running (and do a 5k), kayaking, skydiving (without my parents knowing), ALL OF THE CLOTHES I EVER WANTED TO TRY ON! -
congrats! that's amazing :]
-
I was also thinking Panera because of the soups. But also if you go somewhere else, perhaps you could order fish and steamed veggies or mashed potatoes. And like someone else suggested, tell them you had a stomach bug or the flu so you're taking it easy
-
YES! SOMEONE WHO KNOWS WHERE MY USERNAME IS FROM! :'D
-
where are you two going? is it a chain of some sort? because a menu would be helpful in deciding what to order!
-
still at a stall :[ I really haven't been keeping track of my protein. I know I need to amp it up. I also have a head cold and it's horrible!

Dec. 17 Sleevers - How are you on week out?
castiel replied to sars's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
yes! i can. i find that i can eat a lot more than 2-3 table spoons too. I can eat about a half a cup of pureed food. I'm still trying to figure out when I'm full because often I'm left feeling a little ill. (Doesn't help that I have a cold too) -

I found that muscle milk light (sold at costco) went down really well. It's not thick at all, almost like the thinness of 1% milk. It tasted pretty good too. i'm also drinking nectar chocolate truffle protein mix. I mix it with milk in a protein shaker and it's not gritty at all! i can down about 8oz in a 20-30 mins. I can finish a bottle of water in an hour
