    Light Lifting

I'm 8 weeks post op. I started with 5 pound weights around 5 weeks I think, and now I'm at 10 pound weights. I also used weight machines one night, not thinking about the weight limit (my doctor didn't tell me how long I had to weight, just said avoid heavy lifting for a few weeks). So I've done well over 10 pounds on my arms and legs, but that was just one short period of time. Definitely ask your surgeon/doctor if you can.
  2. NSV Today: I was able to fit my hand down into a glass cup to clean the bottom of it! HAHA

    Vegetables

Hi all, I'm 8 weeks post op. I saw that people say they can't have celery because of the stringiness. Tonight, I had 2 pieces and I was fine. I find that I am getting so sick of eating beef chili, baked chicken, fish, canned tuna/chicken, lunch meat, turkey burgers/meatballs, and cheese/cheese wedges. I never thought I'd miss veggies as much as I do. (I'm almost tempted to drink two Protein shakes a day and snack on veggies in between lol). I was wondering when did you start incorporating veggies into your diet, specifically, low carb ones? When were you cleared for veggies? Unfortunately, my NUT has left the my surgeon's office, and they're working without one until further notice so I have no one to contact. I know for me, I can eat salad, but fruits are a no-go because of the carbs. I miss celery, broccoli, green Beans, cabbage, cucumbers, etc.!!

    Vegetables

Thanks for the tips! I guess it's gonna be trial and error, cooking until soft, and chewing really well.
  5. I exercise 3-4 a week, but it's hard to do it on the weekend because my university's gym closes early. And I tried some exercise tapes, but my dorm room is too small to really move around in haha. I thought it'd be easier to exercise at school than it was at home. Boy was I wrong!
  6. bought myself two 4oz containers. I hope this will make taking food on the go much easier!

  7. Sleeved 12/17 and down 34 pounds. I've pretty much been in a stall for a few weeks which is frustrating
  8. I think that I'm lucky I didn't have that moment of: "What the f***k did I just do to my body". I thought when I woke up after surgery I'd instantly regret it. My only regret now is that I do feel depressed, but I feel like it's not over the loss of food. I don't miss it much. I'm concerned it's because of the low carb diet causing a serotonin imbalance. Sometimes I miss pizza and soda, but to get through it, you have to tell yourself you did this to lose weight and get fit. Without this surgery, I'd never do the things I want to do with my body. You have to remind yourself why you did this. What are your goals and keep your eye on the prize!
  9. my gym isn't open late tonight, so I might try a Jillian Michaels video this weekend just to keep moving. Also thinking about only drinking 2 protein shakes and one meal with snacks. Gotta get the scale moving!

  10. I'm still stalling, and we're almost 8 weeks post op and I'm down 34 pounds. I wish I was 40 down, but I'm thinking of maybe just doing 2 protein shakes a day and one meal with little snacks to see if it'll help me budge the scale. I'm exercising 3-4x a week, burning 800 calories or more and I just can't seem to get it moving.
  11. 10 days post op, you should not be eating solid foods, unless your doctor says it's okay. I'm not a doctor but people are usually on liquids for 2-3 weeks (or longer) followed by pureed. If you have no protein drinks left or soups, you should try to puree all your food into a liquid substance!

    Valentines Day Challenge!

I just use this site to blog about it. I'm too lazy to use a blogging site, because then I'd never sign in to make a post!

    Completely frustrated.

Pain is definitely normal. I was blessed that I didn't have much pain a few days post op. Getting out of bed sucked, but after the first 2 weeks, I was fine. When I went to the gym last night, used the bike for 45 mins and I used a different elliptical machine, and it made my side near an incision hurt so bad, I had to stop after 15 mins and call it a day. Eating slowly is a problem of mine too, but I just get hiccups. I am taking two 30mg of prevacid a day because I wake up with a sour stomach sometimes. But one in the morning and one at night has helped it go away. I stalled 10 days post op for 2 weeks, and then the next week the scale went down 2 pounds, and then nothing, and then 2 last week, and nothing this week as i'm approaching another weigh in for a valentines day challenge. I can't even get to my goal of 15 pounds :[ So I know the frustration. Things take time, at least that's what I need to keep reminding myself!

    Completely frustrated.

I haven't updated in a while because there isn't much news to share. I've been hitting the gym about 4x a week. I do the bike for 45mins, 10 miles, 80+ rpm with resistance, 500+ calories. I hop on the elliptical for 20-30 mins and burn anywhere from 200-400 calories. I also walk on the treadmill for about 15 mins as a cool down. About 60-80 calories. I also use hand weights, 10 pounds and resistance bands every other day. I do squats and raise myself up on my toes to tone my calves. I'm freaking out because I find that I can eat a whole cup of food. I can eat a whole cup of chili with cheese melted on it. A whole cup of cottage cheese. I can chug my water now (several big gulps at a time). I can eat 5oz of chicken. I feel like I have no restriction or control. I can also eat pretty fast and no issues with that either. I'm still having issues not drinking 30 after eating, and I don't get discomfort if it's before then. I've only slimed once and that was because I knew I was splurging too much one night. I don't get discomfort with anything to be honest. No nausea, nothing. I feel like I've stretched my sleeve somehow, or my sleeve wasn't small enough. My weight loss has been so slow and I'm 7 weeks post-op. I read people can only eat a 1/4 of a cup, but I can eat so much more without feeling full. I wonder if part of it's in my head. Like I don't need to eat a cup of food, but I do it anyway because I don't feel satisfied with 1/4 cup of food. No way. I know I'm getting under my BMR, but I think the weight should be coming off. I see some people lose 5 pounds in a week, while I'm lucky if I can get one or two. I just feel so frustrated, which I assume is normal. I'm still feeling miserable at school and I'm more tired than I was right after surgery. I just feel so trapped at school, I wish it was May!

    Completely frustrated.

this will go away once you move to solid foods. I felt it as soon as I moved to the soft food stage, however after about 2 weeks, that feeling went away and I find I can eat a lot more which is discouraging. I kind of miss the tight feeling, if that makes sense! I have no doubt this surgery will work for you. best of luck

    Completely frustrated.

I'm definitely struggling with getting in all my fluids, and I am getting in the bare minimum of 60gms of protein a day. I guess I have a mentality that I'll get my fluids in while working out because I can drink about 50oz in a 2 hour session. I definitely agree I should be keeping better track of everything. I also plan on buying 4oz containers to put my food in because I have to take it with me every single day. Thank you so much for your encouraging response! I wish you the best of luck. We just have to hang in there. I hope the number on the scale goes way down.

To Bike or Not To Bike?

I'm not really sure what the expected loss is, but by 8 weeks I was hoping to be down 40 pounds. I know these things take time, but maybe I'm just too impatient!
  19. Things to be Excited for When I get FIT Register for a cycling class in March Bike with my Dad in May from my university to home! (60 miles) Getting away with wearing only ONE sports bra (not 2 or 3) Buying any clothes that I want Wearing normal width boots Having a regular towel fit around me Run a 5K with my dad RunDinsey 10k 2014 with my dad Sit on an airplane comfortably People actually don't mind sitting next to me in class or on the bus (if I get into grad school) To not be fetishized on dating websites Actually making eye contact with people instead of wishing I was invisible Not be afraid to smile in photos because it makes my face look even fatter Taking the stairs instead of dreading them Not being hot all the time (although my hands and feet are like ice now) GET TO ONDERLAND be able to do at least 5 real pull-ups and 20 push ups And finally, to try to love myself even though everyday is a struggle. In other news, I went to my school's gym on Friday to get used to everything. I brought my friend with me Monday night, and I went tonight, too. Unfortunately, I got such bad blisters on Monday, I could only stick to the bike tonight. I'm doing really lousy getting in all my fluids. I think I might get in about 40oz? I'm not really keeping track of my protein, but I estimate it's somewhere around 40g-50g. I think working out helps deplete any carbs I do consume. I've been in a stall for a while now, but the scale finally moved tonight. Although every scale is different, I have a doctor's appointment on Friday so hopefully my new nutritionist will be okay will my weightloss.

To Bike or Not To Bike?

I'm 7 weeks out and I've only lost 33 pounds. Would you mind telling me what your diet is like? I find that I can eat so much more than others. Probably about a cup of chili, 5oz of chicken, and other foods all in excess. How much food do you eat? You seem to have great weight loss results!

    Valentines Day Challenge!

Same goes for me! I'm 7 weeks post and I'm only losing about 2lbs a week. And I was stalled for about half of them. It's slow, and frustrating, but I'm upping my gym workouts to 4x a week instead of 3.

To Bike or Not To Bike?

I started riding the bike 4 weeks post op. I just can't do stuff like sit-ups or heavy lifting (even though i started weights too)
  23. stomach is making all kinds of gurgle noises when I drink today. Feeling really tired after an intense work out last night.

  24. I'm almost 7 weeks post op. I exercise for about 2 hours 3-4x a week and I burn about 900 calories while doing so. I just started lifting weights too. I eat about 1,000 calories a day and I drink Water. I take Vitamins, and B12 sublingual helps a lot. Surprisingly, I've only felt really tired twice after moving to soft foods. I think it all depends on the person. I feel normal, almost like I did pre-op. Just take it slow and increase your exercise slowly to see how you feel

    1 Month out diets .?

I'm coming up on 7 weeks post op. usually I eat: -Trader Joe's turkey burger with a slice of cheese on it. About 28 grams of Protein. Takes about 15-20 mins to eat it. -1/2 cup of homemade chili with 1/4 of melted cheese with chia seeds mixed in -Oatmeal - 1 can of tuna fish - 3 eggs whites with melted cheese and salsa - 3 Trader Joe's turkey meat balls about 18g of protein and 150 cals -Shelly's ricotta bake -Cheese wedges -Egg salad -black Beans and cheese with salsa and sour cream I find I can eat much more than just 1/4 cup like I could on pureed stage. I wonder if some of the swelling has gone down. As for exercise: 45 mins on the bike about 10 miles 500+ calories with 30 mins on the elliptical 400 calories. I do that 3x a week. scale has been slow moving though. Just started to add in weights too.
