    Pre-op diet starts tomorrow

i can pretty much live on Premier shakes. You can get them at Sam's club or Costco. Come in Vanilla or Chocolate (their website says they have strawberry, but I've never seen it). I don't do powders, they never seem to mix or taste right IMO.

    Non-supportive wives?

That might have been the thread I started a while back. My wife was being a real beech about it in a very passive aggressive way. When I was work hard to get the pre-op weight down, she would actually sit down in front of me (away from our dining room) and eat. She had had RNY about 7 years ago and had put back on almost all of her weight. So I think that had a lot to do with it. Generally she's kinda supportive. She cooks more for our kids than anything, but I have no problem making my own food and I think that pisses her off to a degree. If she makes something that I can't or don't want, I just make my own. I haven't let it get to me, I've pretty much tuned her out. But now that I am 3 months out she seems to be getting on board more. In fact she's started working out and seeing a nutritionist, but that has more to do with her, not really me. So who knows......
  3. Took me 6 months, but that was an insurance requirement. Had to meet once a month with a nutritionist. As soon I as hit the last appointment they handed me my surgery schedule date.

    Pre-op Basketcase :(

You guys are sooooo cool. I showed up in a pair of sweat pant and a t-shirt and some flip flops and when home the same way. I didn't pack anything, didn't think I would need much. I couldn't plan my way out of a wet paper bag.

38 and so scared of having surgery!

The last thing I remember was taking a right turn out of pre-op. That's it. After that I was in recovery but don't remember any of that, just getting pushed back into a room. Stayed on the pain drugs and slept for the rest of the day. Got up, walked, pee'd got poked by various tech's, nurses etc. Watched a lot of sports center (was up all night since the nurses wouldn't let me sleep). Walked some more, drank some water and some protein. Went home...that's about it.

    Hello world!

Good for you, it will all be good! Its hard work, but so worth it in the end.
  8. this is an excellent approach. Starting the good habits is the best way to end up successful. To me journaling is the best way to stay on track. If I get sideways I start tracking and it is easy to find your way back to where you want to be. Keep it up even when you don't want to. Even if you have a slip up. Its a good way to keep those things from happening. GREAT JOB!!

    S.T.U.C.K

Its like playing chess, your body makes a move, and you have to make another move. Sucks, but eventually you will learn when the stalls start to happen, what move you have to make. I'm still learning as they aren't the same now, as they were when I was doing this the old fashioned way. Hang in there, keep ya eye on the prize, the scale will move. Don't for get to take measurements, as I would wager that you are really losing inches even if the scale isn't moving in your direction.

    The Flu Sucks.....

The Flu no longer sucks......now pneumonia sucks... Would kill for a shot of knob creek right now......
  13. At two weeks, I probably would not and let things get fully healed. Caffeine was the one thing that I did not or would not give up. There's enough restrictions in this process, and I am okay giving up most foods and alcohol, but caffeine, sorry no can do!

    Pre op diet messed up

Doubt you have anything to really worry about. It depends on how strict your surgeon is about it. Some do long diets for a lot of reasons, some do shorter ones. Every Dr. does something different.
  15. make sure you are sipping and not drinking. No straws either. The hunger is part acid/gas, part head hunger. Your Dr should probably prescribe some nexium or something like that. You will have some head hunger (not really hungry, but your head will think it is). It goes away after a bit.

    Shakes

Green Beans will have more carbs than Protein, about 4 to 1. There's a couple of websites that have great recipes for things that you can try that have a higher protein count. Here's one that I've used that has some good stuff on it http://www.froedtert.com/SpecialtyAreas/BariatricSurgeryProgram/Recipes/ There's a couple of more http://theworldaccordingtoeggface.blogspot.com/ and http://www.bariatriceating.com/ Good luck, you'll find something I know. It is mostly trial and error, but once you find what you like, it is pretty easy to branch out.

    Shakes

Greek yogurt, Beans, ground meats (chicken, turkey etc) are all good choices. My nutritionist limits me to 1 shake a day and the rest must come from food. BTW I can't eat eggs either. Don't know why, but they really make me sick too.
  18. The first week post op, I noticed it. It seemed that everything was a food commercial. Now it isn't a big deal at all. It also gave me some perspective on my relationship with food. I think that many of us, have the same unhealthy relationships and that seeing food triggers things within us that we need to learn to deal with. Seeing these commercials now have actually helped in that respect. We (I) have to face what our demons are. This surgery gives us that opportunity. Sure you can eat what ever you want in time, but you also have the opportunity to make real changes in your life and that's the approach that I decided to take. It won't work for everyone, and that's fine, but for me, there's not one thing that I could put in my mouth right now that is worth more than what I hope to achieve with this surgery. I think that once you have been able to so some real self evaluating of where you are, and how you got to that point, the food commercials won't be a big deal. Hang tough, it is all good in the end

    Workout

You could start to ease back into it. I was back in the gym less than a week post op, but only walked for a while. Dr. didn't want me lifting much until a month out. I would take it easy and listen to your body, but some arm and shoulder work probably would be okay. I wouldn't do crunches, squats or any real leg work for at least another month. I am at 2 months and am just now getting back to the lower parts of my workout.
  21. i only had about 100 lbs to lose. My wife had RNY about 7 years ago and dropped a lot of weight, but didn't follow through and now has put most of it back on. I felt that this was less drastic than RNY and more feasible than the band. i could always go back and have RNY if need be but I don't think that it will be really necessary.

    Pho?

I never pureed meats. I did get an electric chopper and chopped up chicken and pork. Then added a little grilling sauce to moisten it. I agree pureed meats aren't really very appealing. The chopper makes really tasty chicken salad and egg salad as well. You could make your own pho, there's some decent recipes out there that aren't as full of sodium and msg. I have gotten some hot and sour soup from our Chinese take out, it was pretty good, but I am making most of my own stuff like that.
  24. lack of Protein can make you feel sluggish. If you aren't getting enough, then it is possible that could be the issue. Getting down the Vitamins is a concern. I get a chewable gummy multi Vitamin at costco and have not problems with them. I don't do the chewable calcium, but will probably switch over to the chewables as soon as use up the bottle that I have. I did have some pain from the drain port over to the bottom of the last incision. It was in a strange spot as yours was. I asked the PA about that and she said that it was normal, as the drain went all the way across the abdomen. It went away about 2 weeks post op.
  25. That sounds right. Did you get some directions for your diet from your Dr. or NUT? That should be what you want to follow.
