I keep a couple of cans of Trader Joe's Organic Vegetarian Chilli in the cupboard. Nobody at my house really likes chilli so I get my fix this way. I will make my own when its really cold and I am really motivated.

I'd check with your Dr. I didn't try running until about 2 months out. Made sure I was healed up inside first. Was able to work out and do some fast walking on the treadmill but didn't like the feeling of pounding the pavement. It made the incisions ache a bit.

I just looked at mfp. 743 cals, 18 carbs and 49 protein....not good. But tomorrow is my "weigh" day, so we shall see. -
Losing Slow At Very Beginning?
johnlatte replied to LoserMama's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I dunno, I don't think that I've hit 1100 yet. Have tried, but, truly I don't want to eat. I have to make myself do it and most of time I really do just forget to eat. I'll confess, did eat a very small sliver of pizza last night, it was my daughters surprise bday party. But was right back in the gym this AM running it off. -
Losing Slow At Very Beginning?
johnlatte replied to LoserMama's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I know, I told her this, but she was insistent. I was like, I don't where it's going to go, because I'm full when I eat now. She wants me to eat more meals, and again, I'm like I don't want to graze....I know she's doing the right thing, but god its hard. I'm jealous you ate cake... -
Losing Slow At Very Beginning?
johnlatte replied to LoserMama's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I'm headed to the PA this week, not sure what she's going to say. My nutritionist upped my calories to 1100 last week, (I negotiated this, she wanted 1200, I wanted 900 and we settled for 1100) and it has stalled me this week. Early on, I wasn't too worried about losing slow, now I am getting more and more frustrated. The weight is coming off, about 2 lbs a week, but geeze this is what stopped me from trying to lose the old fashioned way before. Hitting the gym every day like crazy, eating not much and only losing a couple of pounds at a time just sucks. -
I gave up drinking all together. Didn't need the empty calories or the "gas pains". Maybe others aren't going that route, but it is the best choice for me. Don't need to drink to have a good time, and was a regular at the bar, but now I would rather just not.

What all are you packing?
johnlatte replied to Gonnabeslim1day's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Wha? -
+1 on Premier. I like both the Chocolate and Vanilla. Wish I could find the strawberry other than the website.

What all are you packing?
johnlatte replied to Gonnabeslim1day's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Didn't pack a thing. Went in in a Tuesday morning, got sleeved....went home on Wednesday afternoon. Put on the sweat pants and that I wore in to walk around the hospitial in. -
I was sleeved in the same time frame. I'd be interested in knowing where you started and where you are now. You can manage your weight, just like you managed your weight loss. Are you seeing a nutritionist? Typically they have a plan for your maintenance if you are close to your goal weight.

Freaking out
johnlatte replied to prettylittleheart's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You are going to be fine, please don't back out now. I won't lie, it won't be the easiest thing you will do, but you will be sooooo much better for it once you get past the first couple of months. You have such a long and wonderful life to live. You should be enjoying life and not fighting obesity. You've come this far, you've done a lot to get here, stopping now, is no different than what you probably have done many times in your life. This surgery gives you a lot, it will give you back your life and your freedom. That, to me is so worth it. Good luck, come back and let us know how it goes. -
What do you miss most?
johnlatte replied to Roserie's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Don't miss a thing....glad to have done it. It probably gave me back 10 year of my life that the fork was going to take away from me. -
YOLO right? LOL Might as well get yer drink on Post back and let us know how it went, cos there's lots of people that want to do what you are doing. Have a big time LOL!!!

I finished the first week before coming down with pneumonia. Haven't been able to run in a few weeks. I suspect that I will have to start over. I'm shooting for a 10k sometime this spring with the kids.

PPI's (Proton Pump Inhibitors)- which one works best for you?
johnlatte replied to scsleever's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am on Nexium for now. I will probably switch to Zegred or Prilosec once my script is up. -
My only regret is that I didn't do it sooner. I had all the issues that you list and I was probably going to die, go blind or have a major body part lopped off due to the diabetes. I didn't have 20 years left in my life to figure out if the surgery was going to work or not. I've done every diet you could think of. I've taken the pills and the shots. I even did it the old fashioned way and ate less and worked out more. In the end the weight always came back. A plant based only diet comes with its own set of issues, lack of proteins, iron and vitamins, for instance. They can be handled of course, but I'm not sure that you end up any more healthy than going the sleeve route. There's a fair amount of empirical data that supports VSG surgery being a good avenue to take. Realistically, there's a pretty good chance that some weight will return, IF you don't work the plan. What the surgery gives you in the short term, is the opportunity to rebuild your eating habits and reconcile your relationship with food in general. Some folks take advantage of that, and lose their desired amount of weight. Some think that the surgery alone is the magic star that will get them to their goal weight. It's mainly just a tool that will help you achieve a healthy lifestyle, if you pay attention to what your Dr. and nutritionist tell you. Good luck with your journey, I hope that you find what you are looking for.

Should be required reading for anyone starting the pre-op and complains, or anyone that has stalled/gained and complains. Good post!
-
I think that's pretty freaking hard core! I'm trying to so some uphill intervals but without the weights, but am still trying to get over pneumonia so I can do a couple and then stop and hack for a while. Good job!

weight gain during 6 month waiting period
johnlatte replied to dreamonique's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My insurance company wanted to see significant weight loss at each monthly interval. they required my nutritionist to send them a report. They were pretty strict and pretty clear that if I didn't stick with the program that they would deny my requests. Not all INS are like that, but I've had similar experiences with BCBS being pretty hard core about stuff. Good luck! -
What do I take post op for a bad cough?
johnlatte replied to fonally's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I've had pneumonia for the last month, I've been taking OTC stuff for a while now without problems. Definitely check with your Dr. though. -
An honest question. Why are we here?
johnlatte replied to EweLewz's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
It would be easy for me to blame my job, my health or my lack of motivation to exercise, but the bottom line is that I was killing myself with a fork. No one or nothing to blame but me and choices that I was making. I have no reasons, only excuses. I lost a ton of weight over my days and have done every diet on the planet, but never had the resolve (guts if you will) to stick with it. Sure there could be some little issue in my life that I could use as a crutch to reconcile that fact that I put on 70 lbs in a year. In the end, none of those reasons ever picked up a fork and put food in my mouth. It was me and I own it. Now I am taking care of it once and for all. No reasons, no excuses. -
Average calorie intake

I'm 90 days out, and just got upped to 1100 cal by my nutritionist.
