Solids, why must you hurt?
johnlatte replied to journeybegins05032013's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Probably too soon for soft foods. Every Dr. does it differently. I was on a 2 week liquid, 2 week purees 2 weeks softies and never has any problems. You may want to discuss it with your nutritionist or even your surgeon. In the mean time, I might just stick with the liquids. -
I eat salads just fine have you tried that? I keep a bag of baby spinach in my cooler at work, and open up a can of chicken and grab a hand full of greens. A little olive oil on top and off we go. I make egg salad lettuce wraps. Or anything in a lettuce wrap gets you some vegetables and a in a handy wrapper. Portabellos and humus is good too. Lots of cool ways to get them in.

Drum Roll Please......... So today "Sleevie Wonder" and I are standing on the top of the "loosers" bench doing the "bougie" dance and super excited and flapping the "bat wings" to announce that the BMI-o-meter just hit a whopping 29.8, meaning that I am no longer an "o-beasty", merely overweight.....WHOHOO. Next stop on the "journey" is "onederland" . My Stalker-"NUT" is soooooo excited!! I will be celebrating tonight with some fine dining of coca cola and pizza, followed by some beers and maybe a few cocktails, and if I am not lying prone in an ER, will top the night off with a bacon cheezeburger! After all, I am not on a diet!!! I am so glad to have joined the "sleeved side " and have this wonderful "magical tool". And just in case: joke - verb: Make jokes; talk humorously or flippantly. all except for the BMI part!!

After getting bashed on so many soda posts, because I won't grant the poster absolution, I pretty much no longer care what anyone sticks in their mouth anymore. Like Laura said you can't fix stupid. I think you are going to be fine dust, you've done the research and know what to expect. I talked to my StalkerNut today and told her my goal was not to live as a person that has had WLS, but just to live. Yep it's permanent but it sure is heck isn't defining.

Interesting post and observations. I'm glad that you both were able to have a good lunch and remain friends. It can get awkward when someone has made drastic changes. I really wonder if she is actually as comfortable with herself as she appears to be. We tend to put up big screens at times to deflect what hurts us deeply. When I was my biggest, I never once acted like it bothered me. But deep down it really did. I don't know if that is denial, or just pushing the hurt down so far.
-
Yes you go right ahead. I mean after all you shouldn't deny yourself right? Tomorrow is another day, so just go do it and move on right? We are here to support you right, we want you to feel good about yourself. It doesn't matter how unhealthy all that is. We are not here to be on a diet and I would feel left out if all my friends got to eat and I just had to sit there. I'm sitting here having a large Pepsi and a big bag of chips right now, the pizza delivery guy will be here any second. I don't feel any restrictions or anything at all. My Dr. says I can have soda and chips after 2 months and it won't stretch my sleeve at all, so you go girl, get your grub on, Just try to do better tomorrow k? <This is my new response to any and all crap eating posts>

Chris Christie had lapband in February
johnlatte replied to deedadumble's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I think the decision was more political than not doing the research. The band is removable, but the VSG and RNY are not. These surgeries would be held over his head as some type of significant health issue (not really, but you know how the media does stuff), if he ran for President. He gets the band, drops the weight (possibly) then gets the band removed, and wham bam, jam and ham, he's all good and there's nothing that anyone can slam him for (at least regarding the surgery). I'm glad he did it, I hope it works for him. I don't think he has a real political future, but I am glad for anyone that takes the initiative to get healthy and live a better lifestyle. -
We have a local, "after the late news" show called the Edge. They try to be hip and have a couple of young DJ' types hosting. They post a lot questions on FB during the day and then talk about it and the responses. Today this is what they posted "Would you vote for someone who had to resort to surgery to lose weight? Is there a connection between personal control and professional conduct?" I unliked their page......

Here's two more that I got hit with a little while ago. Where folks get their information...I really don't know.. Pouch - we have no pouch, we have stomach. We also don't have tiny tummy, but I've ranted on that one enough. Absorption - We aren't in RNYville here folks......Food nutrients are absorbed in the intestines. Some, but very little absorption happens in the stomach. That's where food is broken down then passed on. The Clue Store must be closed today......

W5 D3 done. Twenty minutes at a full run, got me just shy of 2.5 miles. Never have been able to do that, even when I was running in my skinnier days. Gotta get off the treadmill and onto the road though. I many repeat this one, just for endurance building.

Dude....eat a cookie and cheer up. We can't go through the rest of our lives feeling guilty for what we want or the feelings that we have. We have to give ourselves permission to just be.... we will never be normal, we are all mutants, but what we can be, is honest. Honest that we have feelings that may never go away. Its okay to feel that way...and if an Oreo comes by every once in a while, then we deal, one way or another. So lets get a dune buggy and hit the desert!!!

desert = dessert? Damn I thought you were talking about hanging out in the Mojave.......

Amy - crap happens. You've been working hard at it, and it will pay off. Slipping up is going to happen, hell none of us tow the line 100% of the time. If you are chief cook in your house, it makes it that much tougher. I cook for a living, and it is really hard to not get a taste every now and again. Stay the course, get your HRM, do your 5k its all good.

Do smells bother anyone after surgery?
johnlatte replied to lovedlov's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Okay this is really strange, about 2 days ago, I started smelling this funk. It followed me every where. I thought it was me and took like 3 showers in one day. Thought it was my shirt, and changed that..so on and so on...Went to grocery store, smelled it, got in the car smelled, got home smelled it every where all over the house. Was really getting a bit worried about it, and just like that it stopped. It wasn't me, I scrubbed up and down, but for 2 solid days I smelled this really nasty funky smell. I didn't connect it to the surgery though...but now...hmmmmmmmmmmmm. -
I am so with you, I think someone is putting in some overtime at the stoopy-store these days...

Only if you stop by the Dairy Queen after the weed, I would so support that!

When can we drink soda
johnlatte replied to amielou26's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I really hope that you weren't address this to me. I didn't lecture anyone. I simply answered a question based on my experience and personal beliefs. I didn't do in a rude manner which is more than I can say for some of the responses in this thread. Your philosophy on doing things in moderation is understandable, but what you do in moderation is not what I might do in moderation. I stated what works for me, and plainly said that what works for me, and the commitment that I made is my decision and may not work for everyone. And please do not try to tell me or anyone else what should or should not be posted. As long as I am within the terms of service set out by the moderators, I will post exactly what I choose to post. If you don't like what I post you simply don't have to read it. As I said in my disclaimer, I may post something that you don't want to hear, but I will not hold my tongue. Thank you. -
Are you taking a ppi? Typically this soon after surgery, you have a lot of gas and acid built up in your stomach. This can appear to be hunger pains. Also many of us have something called head hunger, where you are physically hungry, but your brain is telling that you are. If you are going to talk to your Dr. ask for some nexsium or some other ppi. You can also get some OTC. I took it for about 3 months post op, and it really helped.
