Well...there's a couple of ways to look at it. Eating should be, for most people, a way to re-nourish the body. It shouldn't be considered a hobby or a source of pleasure. Unfortunately that is how many of us, me included, got to this point. It is really difficult, but very important to disconnect the social relationship one has with food and eating. The surgery itself will force us to face the fact that we will need to limit what we consume. That said, it doesn't mean that we cannot enjoy a meal, it just means that we won't be joining the food Olympics anytime soon. . -

Yep. I had Muscle Milk Light in the hospital and it was too sweet. Had Pure Protein and it was way too sweet (for me). Premiers were nicely balanced. -
According to the Click website the Vanilla Latte contains instant coffee, meaning caffeine. It does not list specific amounts of caffeine, but looking at it, there's almost as much processed carbohydrates as there are proteins. Maybe something to consider.

I don't use a bread machine, I just mix it up and bake. I don't have any specific recipes, but the darker the bread, rye's, pumps etc. the better it will go down. I've really don't eat a lot of breads, or white foods, so I don't make it very often. I don't have a problem eating it from a sleeve standpoint, but just feel that the consumption of the calories vs over processed carbohydrates doesn't fit in with how I want to eat.

Was talking to my beer rep the other day, told him that I couldn't drink beer much anymore because of the carbonation. He brought me a 4 pack of Big Foot Ale. It is a barleywine. Really good stuff, very little bubbles. Hoppy like a good ale but a good drinker. Dark amber, pours with some head but not a lot. Did a little research and there are a lot of barleywines out there and all have little carbonation. I was only able to drink about a half of a bottle before I got full, but didn't have a problem with the bubbles. Higher alc. content too, so the buzz was there and good too. If you are missing the beers like I was, this is a good alternative.

How is everyone handling the BBQ's today

Tonight I had a a bison cheeze burger on a home made whole wheat roll some baked organic black and pinto beans and about a half bottle of a fine Sierra Nevada Big Foot Ale. For dessert I had a Trader Joe's 100 cal chocolate bar. This morning I had a nice 2 mile run and was in the gym for about 90 minutes. Feel absolutely great!! -

I don't wait in either direction. I've never had a problem sipping with meals if I need to. I usually have a drink about 10 minutes or so maybe less after eating. As long as you don't down a full glass of something, it really isn't much of a problem. -
Keep the sugar and the salt out of your sauce. Yes they make turkey pepperoni, but again lots of salt. Try Canadian bacon or roasted chicken instead. Use low fat skim mozz. Whole wheat crust if possible, either make your own dough or go crust-less all together.

why not eat the real thing? Just a smaller portion. If you are going to eat red sauce and meat, there's not much that's going to healthy that up much. You'd be better off indulging in a small piece and be satisfied with that, than trying to substitute.

nothing to apologize about....people get wadded up for a lot reasons. I read what you wrote, you weren't off base. For spelling...geeze I'd like to see any post that had perfeck spelling in it...

I was never told that, and am not or have never been lactose intolerant. Some people do have the issues. If you can tolerate it, there's no reason from a nutritional standpoint that you can't have it.

No not really. I have a pretty extensive eating plan from my nutritionist. She's been excellent at laying out exactly what I need to eat and what interval. I was warned up front that eggs could be tricky and they were. In a month or so they were fine. I was on liquids and purees for 6 weeks and when I got to solids, I pretty much could eat anything. I've never had a problem with any foods since. -
Why were you told not to drink it?

From a food/nutrition standpoint, they would be fine. HOWEVER, the seeds can settle in your stomach's seam and can cause some serious complications and infections. I would check with your nutritionist to make sure they are okay with it, but I would think that they will want you to wait awhile longer. You can puree the strawberries and strain most of the seeds out either with a strainer or a cheese cloth.

I had a couple of session pre-op that I thought were really helpful. I've been in recovery for about 25 years, so I really know the usefulness of having someone to talk to about issues. It is awesome that you realize that you need to do is and are taking the right steps. Too many people do not do this and end up not understanding why their WLS has failed them. -

Most folks here will tell you that it is okay, it was one slip and you just pick up and move on. While this is true mostly, I think that you really have to get very clear with your relationship with eating and food. The operation is on your stomach, not on your brain. Any bad habits like binge eating or stress eating will not magically go away. I understand that you feel bad, and that's a good step, but please don't feel that the sleeve will make these things magically disappear. You can easily eat around the sleeve and stop losing or even gain weight. I think, based on your post, that you basically understand that. But working out at the gym or the pool doesn't offset a consumption of calories based on processed carbohydrates and fat. Take the next four days and really do some introspective thinking about why you have gotten to this point. Make a list of triggers, be it food or social situations that make you feel the need to run to food for comfort. Study that list, keep it with you and make changes to it as you need. The road to sucess post WLS is full of pot holes. It is easy to dismiss a slip up every now and again, but one slip should just be that a slip. On going, understanding yourself and your eating habits will go along way in insuring the success that you seek. Good luck and let us know how you are doing. -
First, I simply refuse to grow old. (I'm already 243 years old, just ask my kids) Second, I won't be going to any home. Third, If I have to be fed, I will go out like a true Viking... "and my death.....it will be glorious!" (Evel Knievel quote) rock on proudgrammy!

Yep, right there with you. Starting week 3 of my right at the front door stall. I think that I have back slid into not eating enough again. I was losing at a good rate when I was eating more. Now I am back to about 700 kcals a day and have stalled out again. Oh well...another day. -

At the top right of the screen, click on your screen name and then my profile. On the next page, click edit my profile. in the band above general account settings, click my surgery and at that screen enter your new weight. It will update your ticker. -

Congratulations on your surgery. right now you shouldn't feel much restriction. most fluids are just passing through, that is why it is important to get your fluids in to prevent dehydration. You are not abnormal at all, but really that's what is supposed to happen. The restrictions will start happening as you heal and as you get to more solid foods.
