I too was banded 7/17 - My 1st couple of days were painful - the 2nd day the gas pains in my right shoulder had me crying. Once I came home from the hopsital on Thursday I have been able to eat small quainties 1/2 to 3/4 of a cop of Soup - I can drink but i don't gulp and just take regular swallows. The coughing is most likely your bodys way of clearing your lungs after surgery.. I still have a little gas at night but it's pretty much gone. There is a Lucky #7 Seven Thread - where all the people who were banded in July talk - go ck it out - you will find alot of info.

Chimboree, I was lucky I was able to sleep and I agree with all the junk in your hair - it took 2 washing to get it all out NewCC - my port is on my left side, about 4 or 5 inches below my bra line. Icybreeze, Righ now I am only counting protien cuz i am on liquids Lynette - I want a rare hamburger patty. You are on mushie/pureed stage?? Have you tried mushing up some fish - hamburger - or ground turkey and how about veggies if you could get some of those in your diet wouldn't need so many carb items. I am only counting Protein right now cuz I am only having small quaintity of food 1/2 to 1 cup of Soup (healthy request w/skim milk) Protien drinks and s/f pudding. I am having a hard time getting my protein in - i had a shake (which i am sick of already) this morning and that's it - and haven't really drank enought Water. I have been on the computer downloading to my new ipod and then cam here to see whats up.. and it's 4:30 cali time

Cate54 I was lucky I only had 7 days pre-op diet with a colonoscopy scheduled 7/13 - so only clear liquids on the 12th and my doctor had me on clear liquids 2 days before surgery (7/15 & 7/16) I cheated on the 14th and again on the 15th - heck i figured with all the colon cleasing i did - i could cheat.. In fact my pre-op diet was suppose to be all liquid for those 7 days - i called and said I can't do it could i have a piece of fish & salad at night and they said yes. I weight 250 7/6 pre op visit - 236 day of surgery - 242 when i got home and 237 this a.m. I don't count my pre-surgery weight due the colon cleasning as i don't think that was a true weight - cuz i poop all the water that i had in my body.. so I am taking the 13 lbs for now

Mary You are my lb sister :0) Sounds like you are very restricted. Have you tried hot tea - I know that in the mornings my tummy feels tight - i have read where it you are tight in the morning drink something hot and it helps loosen the band up. I am careful about eating - i bought this little bowl from target and it's what i use to eat with it hold 1 cup but i never fill it to the top. When do u go back to the doctors?? You might want to try the drinking somethimg warm - and if that doesn't open you up - i would call your doctor. I am not counting calorie - i am only counting Protein grams as i am eating very health - no sugar stuff every thing is surgar free and i did put about 1/2 butter in my potatos last night. I would Call your doctor - you are not going to heal if you can't eat Janet

Anewstart Did your Dr put you on a full liquid diet?? This is what I am on (banded 7/17). I am allowed broth, cream Soups made with milk, thin pudding, V8 juice, yogurt. I am suppose to have minimum 60 gram of protien daily I made cream of chicken soup (heathly request) (2 grms) added 1 scp unflavored protien, (20 grms) skim milk (9 grms) for a totalof 31 grams of protien - i can't eat a whole can at once - I eat about 1/2 cup to 3/4 cup at one time (i do have restriction). So I am getting about 15.5 grms each portion and a protien shake (20 grms) to this and you have 51 - add a yogurt 5 grms you have 56 grams and i have some jucie protien drinks for 15 grm and I am at 66 grams - add a pudding 3 grms 9. That's a lot of food for the day. (remember when using unflavor protien you can't heat above 130 degree) I get full on my soup - but am dealing with head hunger alot too. This is something that we have to work on - eating has become a habit for us. Last night i made soupy mash potatos made with skim milk - they were great... I am going to add the unflavor protien to it tonite cuz yesterday i fell a little short on my protein quota - i wasn't that hungry. Hopefully when i go to the doctors on Thursday, I will get to move on to pureed food. I want meat & veggie and eggs As you will find out all doctors have different order - some let you eat right away - some not (you need to let your stomach heal). I am very lucky i think since i do have restriction and am full after i eat - might not be satistfied but am full. (diff between real hunger and head hunger-gotta learn the diff) Good Luck...

Dmtjet I don't really crush the one pill i chop it up in to small pieces and put on top of my pudding and eat the top right away - don't want them to melt cuz it taste nasty.. My Doc says to take chewable vitamins - Flinstone Chewable w/Iron or you can get some from Bartrict something that are chewable - also have to take sublingual vitatmin b complex or go in monthly for a shot.. also have to take calicum (viatity chewable) I am told no more whole pills period - either chewable or cut them up.. I found the liquid tyenola (sp) for headaches etc and have tons of liquid vicodin - (never used it once i got home so will save it for if and when i get a tooth ache or some bad pain like that. Again every doctor seems to give diff instructions...

Hi Cate We are the same age and I was banded 7/17 - I had gallbladder surgery 22 yr ago - they cut you open back then (have a 10 inch scar on my right side) The doctor said my surgery took a little longer due to the scar tissue from that surgery - but i was banded - I am told I have the New Band - The Cadillac of Bands - Don't ask me what the diff is - but my son told the Doctor that I would like having the Cadillac Band.. Ilike the bling :car:. I dreamt (sp) about it this morning - mine was clear and thin - didn't look like the ones you see in the doctors office or in the books - it was like a clear thick tube around my stomach. Has anyone else dreamed about their band???:car:

Janey I was banded Tuesday - was suppose to come home Wed - but was a big baby with the gas pains - I stayed until Thursday. So I hurt for 2 solid days. Feel ok now port site hurts but other that that ok - I wouldn't go run a marthon - but heck i wouldn't have done that before being banded anyway - I wasn't hungry while in the hospital but was when i got home. But i am lucky to have restriction and can only eat 1/2 cup of soup at a time. Sorry for your sore throat - I must have a very big one cuz mind didn't hurt at all. :car: I still get gas - the gasx strips do help...

Wrangler I put my crushed hb pressure meds in chocolate pudding - it's isn't great cuz these pills have a bad taste to them just taking them whole with water (preband method) or you might want to try yogurt - I don't think jello would be the best to mix them with - but again I am not a big jello fan.

I have these too - I tried the apple yesterday and didn;t care for it. Still have the cookie/cream & lemonaide one...

Lainy My Doc say you are to have at least 60 grams of protein a day.. I am just 4 days out banded the 17th and I am able to get to that number - I have unjury chocolate & unflavor protein powder. it has 20 grams per scoop. 1 drink in the a.m. I put the unflavored stuff in my soups made w/skim milk 29 grms /2 so that 2 meals for me (can only eat about 1/2 to 3/4 of a cup of soup) the only thing is that you can't heat it up over 130 degrees. Plus another protein drink for 15 - pudding 3 = 67 grms in one day. I am still on liquids until i go to the doctors next Thursday - I have had some thick soups but can wait for mushies.... I am sick of sweet stuff. Also head hunger has been a issue - i am full but not satisfied with all my meals..

I told my supervisor who is also my friend and she then proceeded to tell EVERYONE... Which sort of pisses me off... But what the heck.. I would have told most anyway and you all know how the grapevine works. One girl said - i was cheating - and i told her what about your fake boobs... I survived… Barely :0) Surgery went fine, was told it took a little longer cuz I had a lot of scar tissue from my prior gall bladder surgery. When I woke up (10 a.m. ish) in my room felt like an elephant had kicked my in my stomach and was sitting on my stomach. My daughter in law said I was using the “F” word like every other word (I do cuss but not that much) the room was hot, I wanted a fan – I wanted more than 1 oz of ice an hour and I was hitting that pain med button like crazy.. My day nurse was very nice – VERY sweet which I do remember that getting on my nerves at first but then later in the day I liked her – They took me for the upper GI like around 5 p.m. the day of surgery and when they put me on the x-ray table and shoved a glass with a straw in it and told me to drink.. I told the guy “I’m not supposed to drink out of a straw” he said it was ok – so I drank. By the time I got back to my room I felt like I was going to throw up. Called the nurse right away and she gave me a shot and I was ok. Come to find out that they should not have made me drink through the straw and they made me drink too much and some other stuff. Kristen wasn’t too happy with the GI Dept … Kristin came to see me around 7 and gave be a grape Popsicle. She left to get it and it took awhile and I was about to cry if she forgot to come back.. But she didn’t and that was the Best Damn Popsicle I have ever had. I will tell you one thing the night nurse’s at Desert Hospital SUCK !!!!!! . They never hookup my cpap machine , called the night nurse for a pain shot she said she was on lunch and would be there later. The lvn/c.n.a had a punk hairdo died pinky/red. I guess my age is showing cuz I really didn’t care for him coming in the middle of the nite taking my temp blood pressure etc. Made me get up and walk in the middle of the night then never hooked be back up to the oxygen monitor or plug my IV machine back in to the wall. So I took the thing off my finger in the morning and she asked why I took it off – “told her you never came in to hook me back up and it was bugging me so why wear it” Next day I was still in a lot of pain – the physical therapist people came I cried… I was having REALLY bad gas pains in my shoulder. When Dr B came, I was crying and they said I could stay another night – I was afraid to go home and experience that kind of pain. So stayed another night.. Truly though I could have gone home around 8 p.m. that night. I had another nurse that night after complaining about my 1st one – well he wasn’t any better.. Woke up at 5 a.m. on Thursday and wanted to get the HELL out of there. Do you know that for me to call home collect it would have cost $8 for the 1st minute. That’s BS.. I called my Son’s house my 12 yr old granddaughter answered the phone and they wanted credit card # - she told them no and called her Mom (Nurse who was at work) who called me and want to know what’s wrong.. I stared crying saying I wanted to come home but couldn’t call anyone – didn’t have my cell with me to be able to call Dr B. So she sent my Grandson to the hospital and I called Dr B at 8 a.m and said I want to go home. He called my nurse and I was out of there by 9 and home by 9:30.. I felt so isolated there in the hospital with no way to get a hold of anyone.. I have done ok since I have been home. Was not hungry in the hospital but once I got home I was. I have restriction can eat about ½ to 1 cup of soup and am full but not satisfied and have had to deal with the head hunger – Can’t wait for mushy stage… I am having thick soup but I need to taste the food. Have had a couple of cheese puffs – I let them totally melt in my mouth.. I need that chew factor.. I want fish or a rare hamburger patty. I guess I am a big baby, cuz it seem like most of the people don’t have it this bad (even the ones my age) – I am feeling ok – have some pain where my port is and walk kind of hunched over when I first get up. I could go out if I want to bare the heat (which I don’t) so her I sit. I have washed off the patio, clean the slider window and done a load of wash but that’s about it. Suppose to go back to work on Monday, but might just call in and say I don’t feel like it – or go in and leave early – we will see. I see I have alot of catching up to do.....

Off to be banded I go.. Well, gang tomorrow (7/17) I will be banded.. Have to be at the hosiptal at 6:15 a.m. Have been on clear liquids 7/12 for colonospcy (it ok no problems) and then again yesterday and today with another colon cleasne. I have lost 10 lbs since 7/6,, Well gotta finish somethings up... Will ck back in on Wed or Thrusday depending on how i feel..

Thanks Chimboree I am just cking in before tommorrow, I have to be at the hospital by 6:15 a.m. and will spend the night. I guess i am a little nervouse as i'm not hungery and the only time i'm not hungry is when i am nervouse. As of right now i have lost 10 lbs since 7/6 - that's with the help of TWO colon cleansing 0ne friday for scope and today for tomorrow - along with being on a preop diet and liquids for 2 days. So i guess i gotta change my ticker etc... Well, gotta finish a few things just what to say hi !!! Talk to you all either Wed or Thursday depending on how i feel. Janet

I have BC CA too and had no problems in getting approved - just had to go to a center of excellence - which i am lucky my local hospital is.. I guess you and I have RARE insurance
