You are right Marcy - I should have said it ("you should really try on your pre-op diet but a slip or 2 won't necessarily mean not being able to get the operation' My Bad..... I was able to modify (and still follow a healthy eating plan)my pre-op so that i would obtain success without the stravation factor coming into play where I would have just then given up.. If it's too hard I won't do it - I haven't found that the band has been too hard. It has been that great tool to make me full faster on alot less food. I was so happy to gratuated to to mushy - and have been taking my time eating.

How is weight loss for people over 50?

Hi Deb Weclome - This site is FANTASTIC... This site is where i did all my research prior to being banded (Both Phly & I are July Banders - shout out to Phyl:p ) I love the 50+ thread as it is active daily and if you ask a question someone will always respond. ... I feel that weight loss for those 50 + is diff than the 20 - 30 & 40 yr olds out there and out life experience are different too. Our struggle with weight has been a lot longer than the younger ones. I am 10 days out and feel great have lost 18 lbs since 7/6.. And once I start back at the gym on Monday that should increase. I am on the pureed stage for 2 weeks (yephee :clap2:) I can only eat about 1/2 cup to 1 cup of food at each meal. I would do this again - It is the GREAT'S TOOL IN THE WORLD FOR WEIGHT LOSS. -

Sunny The nerves kept me from eating the day before surgery - that's about the only time i don't eat :biggrin1:. Good luck to all being banded tomorrow - you are all in my prayers.

Kathy I only had to do 7 days but was suppose to be all liquid (except oatmeal in the a.m.) after day one i called the office and asked if i could have some fish and salad as i wasn't going to make it on the ugly tomato soup they gave me (my doc supplies preop diet food and they were out of everything) She said ok as long as I watch my portions and no carbs (rice potatoes etc) so i had a piece of fish & salad or veggies for dinner. Also my Son' bday had a little steak and then 2 day pre op was suppose to be on clear liquids only - on sunday had sandwich - but monday did ok... My liver was ok.. as long as you haven't been pigging out you should be ok. and what the heck - once they put you out and get in there they aren't going to stop... it just makes their jobs easier with a smaller liver.

I have morphed into a food monster...what is up?
IndioGirl55 replied to cookielover's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Jenny You will be able to eat after the surgery - just smaller - I would suggest your most favorite meal that might not be band friendly once your band in on. - but again everyone here seems to be diff - some can eat bread some cant' etc. - I had my fav meal for about 6 weeks:rolleyes:... -

Jacqui You are an inspiration:) - I was just banded 7/17 and still am on full liquids - can't wait for puree - I miss my veggies too.. also the actual protien of an animal or fish - I don't like the protein powders too much - You have done excellent on your weight loss - and what you said above says it all and you are the proof it works. Congrats...:clap2: -

OK do the Irish use stone's like the Brits - I keep hearing that term when i am watching the BBC channel, but don't know how much a stone is Dini???

Phyl Nope - My last pain shot was 3 p.m. on 7/18 (really just for the gas pains) - It was that way when i had my gallbladder surgery when they still cut you open 22 yrs ago - Ii had 24 hrs of pain shots and that was it. The worst pain for me was the first few hours after sugery (felt like and elephant had kicked me then was still sitting on me when i first woke up) and then the gas pains on the 18th that kept me from going home. But after that never really was in any more pain. Just sore... I can't believe that there are all these women who have surgery on an out paitient basis and are on the computer that afternoon.. I never cought - and i am the smoker of the group . Lungs were never an issue.. Glad the pain is subsiding for you... xoxo Janet

Amy You have last meal syndrome....:hungry: Welcome to the club :clap2: I had my 1st visted the surgeon on 5/31 - my pre-op on 7/6 and I had gained 6 lbs. You are eating all the foods you want cuz you know you are going on a diet and won't be able to eat these things again. So you will but some you won't depending on how band freindly the food is. You will be ok.. I didn't beat myself up about it - I ate what i wanted to up to pre-op diet. I was banded 7/17 and am on liquids (including soups) for 2 weeks... I want food that has to be chewn, (is that a word .. -

Ash Congrats on the weight lost I agree with you on trying to catch up on the post - I get on the computer and have about 10 pages to read to see what's up and then an hour has gone by - forgot what was on the 1st page that i wanted to respond to.. So I just end up signing off cuz then it's time to do dishes etc. Chim - You are in my prayers today. Sunny - It's tomorrow your day?? Prays & Hugs to you:girl_hug: Dini - I did ck out your pics the other day - your daugther is so cute and I agree with whomever said - You look THIN in that picture. Once you get in to the hang of exercising - you will be ok. I have loaded my Ipod - but waiting until i go to the doctors for my followup to see when i can get back to the gym and how long until i can work with weights. I am lucky a new gym opened across the way from my house to easy to go to before and after work. Lynette - Yes that IS love going out at 1:30 in the a.m. to get meds for DH Carolin - I only had a week of pre-op diet but mixed into that was to colon cleasnes... I did cheat a tad.. Onmyway07 - I am so happy that you are doing so well right after surgery - I wasn't the greastest for about the 1st day and a half - but after that I have been ok - Last pain med was 3 p.m. on thursday (19th) afternoon - (surgery the 17th), I have ALL the liquid vicoden that dr had prescirped - never had to use it when i got home Marcylinka - Oh how I wish I could be up their in the cool weather with your eating crab... I am still on liquids - but last night my mash potato soup ended up a little too thick - (i would say just like regular) and i was SO HUNGRY I ate them anyway... I know bad girl - but yesterday i was STARVING.. I did the whole protein thing and had 57 grams in before dinner but was just too hungry... Phyl - How are you?? dmtjet - the trials and tribulation of kids - I have my 16 yr grandson who is a drama king.... Well, I am at work - so better get back to it.
