My doctors office gives us samples of all kinds of things - I have unjury chocolate and unflavored - Not bad... I use the unflavored in my food & shake (fruit) and the chocolate is just for shakes. Lots of protein but don't really care for them that much - with the unflavored you can't heat it above 130 degrees - don't ask me why - but watch out for that when you add to food (soups) that you heat.. I tried the Nectar Apple AWFUL !!! - haven't tried anything else (have lemonade and something els) My doc has something clear liquid protein drinks 70 calories 15 grm pt that are FANTASTIC. He sells them - but on the package and box can't find out who makes them. I had the wild berry - grape - lemonade - and just love them

Congrats on 31 lbs !!!:clap2: - I haven't gone out to eat at a restruratn yet - but will keep this in mind - I am going to a wedding on Saturday - at home i eat out of a 1 cup bowl with a tiny spoon. (it didn't keep me from eating too much califlower last night too fast - but no problems and it was califlower and not mashed potatoes with gravy ) So this will be a test of my willpower and band - but since i am so motivated don't think i will have too much of a problem. Well maybe with the wine :rolleyes But heck 2 meals $4.25 can't beat that :whoo: -

I'm a 7/07 bander and want ask a tmi question from the 7/06 banders Here goes - :nervousHow is #2 for you.. :oHas it changed?? I had water in water out while on liquids - then got mushy last Thursday - had combo diarreah/baby poop - but i have to go often (not just once a day pre-band) and my hemroids (i know tmi) are killing me... I had some one tell me today that their gf who has been banded for a yr now has diarreah (sp) all the time and when she has to go she has to go.. So what's the answer???? Thanks,

Poll: Are you glad you were banded?

Zengirl - What were your expectations with the band?? I know that you were told it's just a tool - but did you really think (like a lot of people do imho) that this was the answer to all your weight issues. I have never looked at my band as being the 100% answer to my weight problems - I look at the band its self as 25% to help - but the other 75% is up to me - watch what i eat - exercise - so that put 3/4 of the job on my shoulder.. I am hungry right this minute - I want to eat.. But i say to myself - do you want to waste 200 calorie right now on junk or would you like to have a decent dinner.. I vote for dinner and a couple of puddings for dessert... I love junk as much as everyone does, but i have chossen not to even eat it... In fact the other night i was very tired and not feeling good (and the is a BIG trigger for me to OVER EAT COMFORT FOOD) - Well i started to fry the bacon to make white (cream gravy) to go on top of my mash potatoes - but as i looked at the pan - i said to myself "Janet - did you spend all that $$$ (dr had a large prgram fee) and pain of surgery just to "f" it all up by eating the wrong kind of food jsut cuz you don't feel good" The answer was no - so i threw it out and just ate my 3/4 cup of mash potatoes with NO gravy... Maybe I am just super motovatied right now... but again I don't want everyone looking at me saying - look what she did and she didn't loose the weight... So I am WORKING VERY HARD at not eating too much or the wrong thing and to get my exercise. I don't care if you are banded or bypass - but whomever chooses to go thru major surgery to have either procudures should also put the work in to make it work... and 75% is all head work (imho) -

Lessofme - I had my mamo on 7/12 and lapband on 7/17 - the mamo place sent me letter had to come in and retake pics of my right breast went last Friday (banded and no problems) and tomorrow i go for a biospy (may have problems cuz i have to lay on my tummy and my port site is still sore - i am barely 2 weeks out from surgery)... I have microcalsifications (pepper flakes).. Can't blame the band - but it's like wtf here i am trying to get healthy and this shows up.. But have positive thought that everything will be ok... And the Prayers and Love from the ladies here. (i have only told this board and 3 people at work oh yea my sister - but haven't told my Son & his family - or my grandson who lives with me - don't want to worry them un-necessarily) My thoughts & prayer that it's just a cyst are with you.... -

I was told 30 before & after - I understand the after - which i too am having a hard time with as i am thristy after eating (salt) but not the before so that you can eat more - well for us who don't have much restriction I would think it would be a good thing - so that we didn't over eat. -
Chim I did soupy mash potatoes (make them the same as your cream of wheat) - i just made the instant more like a soup than mash consistancy.. I used just all skim milk and no water to bring up the protein and added 1/2 tespn of butter lots of pepper and salt. Try it - you will like it and I have beed allowed sf pudding since day one. I don't like jello so I can't do that. When I am hungry (real or head) at night I eat a sf double chocolate pudding (last night ate 2) &/or a healthy request fudgecicle. I also have had watermelon since I am on mushy. I haven't craved any bread per se - I have put a puffed cheeto in my mouth and let it disolved - did this in the liquid stage - grandson ate them all so i won't buy any more cuz they were too easy to eat when that head hunger struck. today menu Breakfast 1/4 cup eggbeater southwestern style with a tad of cheese (7pt - 60 calories) Grape protein Drink 15 pt - 70 calories Snack - Dannon sf yogurt 5 pt - 60 calories Lunch 1/2 cup refried beans with a tad of cheese 7 pt - 130 cal snack - 5 oz V8 - 1 pt 35 calorie Dinner - 3 oz catfish baked - yellow squash 1 cup - 1/2 cup mashed taters 400 calories - 26 pt Snack - 2 pudding cups 120 calorie 6 pt. 875 Calories (approx) - 67 grams of protein... and may have 80 calorie fudgecicle too - so all in all i am doing ok - I think...
-
Chim - Have you tried soupy mash potatos.... This worked for me on my last couple of days before mushy stage... Cuz gf - once you hit mushy you are going to want soft - cuz mushy really isn't eating either - Last nite i had 1 cup mashed potatos - 1 cup yellow squash - 1 4 oz hamburger patty chopped real fine ( i turly think the hb patty would be considered soft - but i need real food) i didn't eat this all at once but 5 pm veggies - 7 pm meat & 8 i had the potatos and truely i didn't need them but grandson had order Pizza and cuz I didn't want to eat that I have the potatoes - I made him take the pizza's to his room cuz I knew that in the middle of the night i would wake up and eat the toppings.. I have NO self control at night.... I do have 1/2 cup refired beans for lunch with a tad of cheese on top.. But I sure would like a burritto instead Good Luck !!!

Jeanie - I asked my doc about this on my first visit - he doesn't have the equipment in his office - he has you drink water as he is filling you and once you cant swallow then he takes some out. Now don't quote me on this but that's how it was explained to me.. It seems like all of us are getting hungry and are able to eat more. Since i am still on mushy (have had some soft foods hamburger patty) The question is - is it real hunger or might be our old head hunger.. Last week when i had the 1/2 cup bake potato soup I was full and felt satistfied the whole afternoon. Now i am eating a full cup and am able to eat within and hour or 2. But for the most part I am making good food choices and before I eat I really try to figure out which it is. My "hunger" spikes at night - Boredom - time filler etc. Also, I have not tested my band. I haven't tried eating steak or bread - anything chewy.. I haven't had any cake cookies or candy bars or real ice cream. I know that I'm not eating as much as I use to and I think that comes into play with the head hunger OMG i am starving i only had 1/2 cup of refired beans for lunch or I only had 6 oz yogurt for a snack. This band isn't going to take away our hunger (imho) I think it will just make us eat less and again it is up to us to make the good food choices. Also, someone's nurtritionst said not to record our food so that it doesn't seem like we are on a diet - I think that's great and I love the idea - but until I have better habits - I think I will record my food.. Those 3 containers of sf pudding do add up 60 x 3 = 180 calories x 7 days a week that 1260 (almost 1/2 weight loss or gain depending it you ate them or not)
-
Campbells has a soup called Tomato Bisque - I think it's just a little sweeter in taste - It's great to cook pork chop in and pour over white rice.. I know the old way of eating (instead of mushroom soup)
-
I was just thinking, wouldn't it be great if we all could get that little ankle bracelet (like Lindsey Lohan's alcohol bracelet) that measures how much we've eaten and if we eat too much our surgeon calls us and "talks us down"? Yes, it is a sad, sad life that I lead sometimes! Just gotta find the humor in retarded things like rich socialite girls.... Marcy - I think the is the MOST FANTASTIC IDEA..

Jeanie - CONGRATS!!! on no more hb meds... I just refilled my yesterday - I gotta ck w/my pp as i am on atentoal (sp) and you just can't stop taking it. My bp has been low but i don't keep the machine with me at work - only ck it at night. I think I may have a few more pounds to drop and i have gained 1.5 since moving to mushies

I am keeping a food journal just because i have found in the past that this works best for me to write it down (prior diets) - I am writing what i eat - calories and protein - as i am suppose to get minimum 60 grms. I just want you all to be sooooo proud of me - yesterday - i was NOT FEELING 100% - i was very tired from not sleeping the night before and feeling just not real great :sick(weak from not eating mostly mental i think) anyway this is when i tend to over eat i was looking for comfort food :hungry:(in the mushie stage) - I started to fry bacon to make white gravy to go over my mash potato.... I looked at the bacon frying and said to myself - you didn't go through all this trouble to get banded and now you are going to eat high fat junk - it might be considered a mushie - but you know you aren't suppose to eat this sh*t.. So I threw away the bacon fat and just had the mash potatos.... :clap2: yellow crooked neck squash and a hb patty ground up - not pureed but ground up real good.. -
Kathy I understand completely - my port still hurt a tad and I think the LOW calories has something to do with our whole energy level and that we just had major surgery and we think we feel great - but we are still healing... I over did it at the gym on Monday - so didn't go yesterday or this morning- will try tonite but will take it easier... I am eating about 1000 calories a day since i have moved to mushy and am feeling a little better. Janet

Sunny - I made soupy mash potatos - also one day went to TOGO'S (don't know if you have them in Fl - its a sandwich shop and had their baked potato soup - OMG it was GREAT... I also took tomatoe bisque soup and add parmesen cheese. Do you like pinto bean??? Well make a pot - take some of the beans and smash them up and add the juice/stock and make a thick bean soup - I use a hamhock - cumins - garlic - ononion and throw in 1 jalapeno... Yummy. If you have a Trader Joe's in Fl - I heard that the butternut soup was great... Janet

Thanks Michelle - My shoes are brand new - I was walking on the treadmill - I just over did it - it was 110 yesterday(outside) and i walked 35 @ 3 mph at no incline then did the last 5 minutes at a 4 incline. I just got over heated and maybe a little dehyderated (sp) and you will never have to worry about me being hyper-exercising - I HATE exercising.. I just know that i have to do it and it take all that i am to do it... - I want to quit after 10 minutes - I hate being hot.. I know that's sorta funny - since I live in the Desert and for 4 or 5 months out of the yr it is HOT... I have been a total slug bug for the last few yrs - just vaccumming the house i break out in a sweat... I need to start slower and work myself into this - thats it... I appreciate the luv.... Janet -
Pain following surgery
IndioGirl55 replied to Jeanniepenini's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
i am 2 week out today - i still have some port site pain and will get gas pains when i eat - i can eat the thicker the fast if fill up the thiner the slower i fill up... I eat 1/2 to 3/4 cup of oatmeal in the morning and 1/2 cup refried beans for lunch (I am on mushys whoopee) - i can sleep on my stomach as long as i am on a soft surface. It hurts to wear pants that cut you in the waist. -
My doc provided pre-op diet - but full liquids usually means - broth, creamed Soups (healthy request) proten shakes, Jello, pudding, anything that passes thru a straw. Why don't you call them and get a heads up on what you need - explain the situation...
