  2. Susan you should be OK.. I chewed and spit out tostidos (i know tmi) that was my only slip and i did make soupy mash potatoes - my my doc gave your creamed soups to eat on the 1st 10 days - then on to puree food 10 days and soft 10 day then regular. Phyllser aren't you on soft food yet?? 27 days out?? You can't eat clam chowder yet?? You are doing great if you are only eating 1/2 cup at a meal - i am 1 to 2 cups - last night had 1 cup squash & 2/3 cup sopa (mexican pasta for those who don't know :Banane20:)with a 2 tblsp of cheese and that was dinner - I still had some watermelon in the middle of the night and 2 sf puddings... (I wonder what kind of Fit your DH would have if he was my DH :guess - I guess it would be battle royal - cuz if you tell me not to eat - I am going to eat that much more) I really wish that when i went to sleep i would stay asleep :notagree 200 x 7 1400 calories i would save in a week that's about 1/2lbs - but again i am only eating 1000 - 1200 calories a day including my night time raids.:bandit

How is weight loss for people over 50?

Sweetviolet - Hope your treatment goes well for your Graves... Old habits - us older folks have had them a lot longer than the younger set and I agree that they die hard - if at all... I think it's a daily battle and i don't see it stopping anytime soon - my only answer for myself is not to buy the junk. Denise - I am lazy I will rarely (not Never but rarely) get up, get dressed to drive to the other side of town to buy junk.. But they are building tons of retail by my new housing tract - so I am going to have to be really care cuz now the stores will be in walking distant. I guess I am lucky - cuz I still am a newbie - so my determination to win this battle hasn't worn off - this goes to not buying junk and eating bad - execpt for last weekend ate (4) cheese enchallidas - but didn't go anywhere to buy the stuff had it in the house :0) I can't wait for my 1st fill on 9/5 - cuz i feel that i am eating too much but really i don't think i am - my problems is nite like most of us - I wish we could find the answer to this problem :help: cuz then we would be MILLIONAIRES :whoo: Well, lunch is over - gotta go make that $$$$ - Talk to you all later and Michelle would love to see your art!!!

How is weight loss for people over 50?

Southerngal - Welcome - This is the VERY BEST place for info and support - my fav group is this one - I post on other threads and belong to the lucky #7 (a thread for those banded in July) but this is my fav. The women here are the BEST - they tell it like it is - they are honest and supportive - I have only been here 3 months - but truely feel that i have made a new group of freinds - it just too bad we are all over the USA so we can't meet in person cuz I would LOVE to) Read all that you can, ask questions and good luck on your quest of a healthier life - Michelle - Well said as usual - I think that what we must stress over and over again that this is NOT the cure all to our food issues, as imho i think some think that it is and that's why they are dissappointed in it. Hi to all - I have been on here for 45 minutes this a.m. and I gotta get back to work - Too bad they don't pay me for posting here?:nervous Gotta go do what they do pay me for :cry. Will ck in later - Hope you all have a GREAT DAY... Janet

Poll: Are you glad you were banded?

Susan - I was back to work 6 days out - so I guess I did pretty good for an old lady.. Take some pecide (sp) for your tummy and yes yout incision area is going to be sore for a couple of weeks - eat according to your doctors requirement (each are wildly different) as each day passes you will feel better - tomorrow is 4 weeks for me and i feel great.. down 23 lbs - exercising - have some restriction but not alot go for my 1st fill on 9/5. You can do this - it will take work on your part - but since you chose to be banded - I know that you are willing to do that work. My best to you..

    band decision help!

Ok guys, here is mho - There are complications from getting a tooth pulled to getting a paper cut. Some have them some don't. What are the complications that are caused by being obese?? High Blood Pressure, Diabetes, Sleep Apnea - All these things are going to kill you sooner or later. Yes you are going to read horror stories of people getting infections, slippage, eriosion etc - but that's life - Stuff Happens. My 3 yr old grandaughter has Mrsa (it's a staph infection and she has never had surgery or been the in hospital - it's community aquired) Who are we going to blame this on... Life happens... I guess i am just a firm beleiver in that you deal with what ever God gives you do deal with ( or your high power etc - it's God for me) The Band is a tool to help you control your portion size that's it - it's not the magic pill we all want - As to the hair loss - my gf who did medifast and is not banded has had the hair loss issue - it's not exclusive to the band or bypass - it's due to your diet and usually happens about 3 months out (imho is due to a too low in calorie diet - 800 calories a day but i'm not a doctor) I am taking my vitimans - boiten - sublingual b and eating about 1100 calories a day (meats, fat, veggies - no sugar and low carb but i do still eat carb just not like i use to)... Some times i think we look at the negative so that we don't have to deal with who we are. Example "oh i can't get that done cuz i might get an infection or the band might slip - so i guess i will just stay the way that i am - its hopeless " Well you might just get in a car accident on your way to work this morning. With the band you still have to change your eating habits to loose the weight - you have to exercise also. All I can do is suggest that you keep reading both the good and bad and think about what's best for you. Good Luck on your journey and quest for a healthier life...

Yes you get a panic post - this morning (my weigh in day) i got on the scales 3 time - 3 time different readings. I have been working my butt off on exercising and keeping my caloires around 1100 - to me i should be losing 5 lbs in a week not 2. But again - I have un-realistic ideas/ expectations (even if i know better and give advise as such) as I think alot here do - I have some restriction but night time is a killer for me, but i will not give up - this band is NOT the fixall and age and metabolisim all come in to play - My mantra - I will put one foot in front of the other and work and not give up no matter what the scales say. I am going to change to weighing every 2 weeks - that is if I can stick to it:) My best to you on this new phase of your life...

If anything required walking - i wasn't doing it.. Just too hard - I love challenging myself now... Maybe one day i will do an ironwoman competition - ya right - but nice thought...

    Diet suggestions

RN2be2008 You were banded the same day as me and have lost more than me (i am at 21 lbs as of last thursday and only lost 1 pound that week)... I think 25 is good - don't get on the scales everyday - I only weight once a week and may change that to monthly. I haven't weighted this week (Thursday is weight day) so wish me luck. When I complained about losing only 1 lbs last week someone indicated that i might be underestimating my calories and i do keep a food diary - so i went and bought this scale that give me calories for what ever i am weighing - also i am going to the gym and walking on the treadmill - doc says i can do that and arms but nothing with the tummy muscles as they are still healing. This is a 2 yr process - so be patient... My best to you
  15. I have had a peach no problem with the peach & watermelon - i just chewed it well and I don't have a fill yet - I have some restriction but no actual fill yet

emcTN and to all on the fence The 1st few weeks you are limited as to what you can eat (according to your doctors orders & everyone’s is different) But once you are healed you can eat any food your band will tolerate (again diff for everyone) the band is a tool to control your portion size only - you absorb all your calories (unlike bypass) - your weight loss will depend on "YOUR CHOICES" if you eat ice cream, candy, high fat foods and tons of carbs and no exercise NO you aren't going to lose weight or kept it off for that matter - the band IS NOT the magic pill to take away your hunger - food issue etc - The band requires "WORK" good food choices (as you are eating less you need to get in all your protein 60 minimum for women) you will have to take vitamins - exercise. the band may do 25% of the work but the other 75% is up to you (imho) Bad food choices - portions and lack of exercise got you where you are at now. You don't like the statistics ??? Can you tell me of ANY DIET OR WLS that give 100% guarantee??? Nope - even with bypass they can and do gain it back - YES there are TONS on this board who have got to goal and have kept it off. You need to make sure this is the correct choice for you and that your expectations are in line with what the outcome will/or could be. This is your journey and only you can make those decisions. Look around this board - there is a thread 100 + lbs loss or at goal something like that Would I do it again Yes - It's the tool that I need to help me in my quest for a healthier life. My best to all of you on the Fencers.... May you make the best choice for you...

Hi Gang - just doing my morning catch up since i wasn't on the computer last night. Just want to share a NSV 3 miles in 1 hr last night. That's pretty good for a 52 fat couch potato who 2 wks ago could barely do 30 minutes  Lynette - I tried the hip hop abs - but my dvd had terrible audio and my knees just couldn't do it - but agan i am twice your age. I lwanted a dance excerise so it didn't seem too much like work.. Laurend & Ruby - OMG - I am sorry that your parents were so forceful in making you eat things you didn't like. I guess i was lucky - there was only 1 thing my mom ever made that i didn't like (baked tomaote w/cheese) and she was drunk and was very instance that i eat it - i might have taken a bite but that was it. I have never force my son or grandkids to eat something thing they don't like - The 3 yr old is the only one who isn't picky - my son & grandson - meat & potatoes kinda guys no veggies. I really don't understand people who force other to eat things they don't like - we are all individuals and we eat have different taste. Anna - I too want to feed the world and ALWAYS over cook - last night was trying to make 2 portion of dinner ( 5 oz ground white turkey, onions, bell pepper, 1/2 small cabbage 5 tiny red potatoes - with some garlic & BAM Spices) weighed an measured every thing - but when i cooked it - it came out enought for 3 servings... Dini - Congrats on the small - size 12 usa clothes - I am starting to fit into some of my 14/16's. Lindaa - I feel your pain - all the gathings i go to have Food & alcohal. Caolin - Congrats :whoo: Jeanie - Sunny - Chim - Phyl - & all those i am missing - Have a great day - I gotta get to work... :nervous:rolleyes:rolleyes: - this site is just too addicting - i am not getting my work done:eek:..

Poll: Are you glad you were banded?

Blooeyes - this is your biggest mistake... Don't - please don't weight every day it will undermine all your efforts. One day down 2 lbs next day up 5 lbs etc. I weighed myself every day the 1st week - loved it was losing about 1 lbs a day- but after that 1st week it really slowed to 2 lbs in one week - then 1 the next. So I do not get on the scale except for once a week. I took my measurements before sugery and this Friday will be 1 month out - so I am going to retake measurements then. I know my tummy has shrunk and I can see it in my face. Also yesterday i walked 3 miles in 1 hr - 20 min mile - great NSV for a 52 couch potato... I could barely do 30 mintues 1 week out... Just work the program - eat correctly - exercise and the weight will come off - Remember with the band it is slower weight loss.. I understand your frustration - but be paitient... t

Poll: Are you glad you were banded?

12 lbs in 2 weeks is good... I know how you feel - it should just fall off when we compare what we are eating now and what we ate before. What are you eating BlooEyez???? I too am eating bandster size which for me has been 1 to 2 cups of food at one meal usually 1 cup depending on what i am eating - but last week I did navy bean Soup for 4 da about 1 1/2 cups and only lost 1 lb last week - I am eating a lot less and better food.:faint: Someone told me I might be under estimating my calories - so Sunday I went out and bought a scale that tells me all the nurtients in a piece of food - 4 oz raw salmon - 300 calories 24 grms Protein - yadda yadda - it was a bit pricey - but to me worth it ... Imho you gotta look at the calories in We will see how this week goes...

Hi Gang - Just catching up on my lunch hour... Phly - This is one of the reasons I am glad not to have a DH.. But for 43 yr hell ya you need to celebrate - I couldn't make 3 yrs (twice same guy ;0) and what food you don't eat he can eat or you can take homed. Chim - Hot wash cloth or bath for the pain and to reduce the swelling, add some fat to your diet and water water water. Ruby - Sorry for the Slime - me to just one more bite - I don't have a fill yet - but I hope I know when to stop when i do.. One little rhyme i learned in WW - better in thee (trash) than in Me... I use this still today.. Marcy - My Brothers & I would do that with a bowl of cheeto's - who would get more than the other:hungry: Jeanie - My blood pressure meds have water pill - so I am lucky no water here - but they always tell you to drink more wate to get rid of it - doesn't make sense but who am i :phanvan Sunny- Popcorn?? As long as it wasn't loaded with butter, calorie wise you should be ok.. Kathy - I ate cheese enchillada this weekend, 2 for dinner and grazed on the other 2.. No wonder i am not losing but 1 lbs a week:faint:.. I was told that I was most likely under-estimating my calories - so Sunday I bought a scale (digital) that gives you calories - protein - etc - I think it was a good investment (was a little pricey) - I weighed out my fish & chicken - been weighting watermelon, veggies etc. I am trying to keep calories at 1000 - 1200... It's hard... My goal this week is to walk 2 miles 4 - 5 this week (did it Sat & yesterday) As far as shopping - i am buying too much. Once I took the 3 packages of fish and 1 chick and weighted it out i have enought for 3 weeks... And veggies - my eyes have always been bigger than my tummy. I guess i am afaired i am going to starve - yea right got enough reserve to feed an army :girl_hug: Just had salad with tuna - light ranch dressing and tummy letting me know bathroom break coming up - my tmi is that i too have diarrah about once a week but the rest of the time is soft, never hard - but i think i get enough fat - (maybe too much). Ok it's almost one - gotta get back to work - Talk to ya'll later. Janet
  24. I didn't vote - but this has me worried... I don't have tons of hair to begin with and can't afford to lose any. My gf who did medi-fast (not banded) has had her hair fall out too, so it's not just a band or bypass issue - but i think a diet issue. I would assume that you all of you are taking vitimans and boiten since you have such restricted calorie intake??? I am taking the bioten as a prevenative measure and take my flinstone w/iron twice a day - along with my sublingual B...
  25. After Wasabubblebutt told me i was most likely under-estimating my calories (even with fitday) i went out an bought a scale that weighs my food and give me calorie - fat - protein etc of my food. I think this is going to help me as I agree with "was" it's real easy to under estimate what is 4 oz - 3oz etc... So we will see how i do this next week... I am aiming for 1000 to 1200 calorie a day - If i don't loose weight on this then I will have to decrease - also I plan to exercise 4 - 5 times a week.
