Nana - you are just too funny:p - I too look p.g. - but it is shrinking. I measured myself prior to surgery - since I am a month out i was going to re-measure to see how may inches. Well maybe i will get the courage up today to do that - if i can find the tape measure -

FatAttack - Welcome :biggrin1: Click this link http://www.lapbandtalk.com/f17/how-weight-loss-people-over-50-a-21117-new/ and it will take to you to the 50+ thread - post there and you will be subscribed and then it will be in your usercp thread subscriptions... This is my fav thread on this board as I agree people over 50 have diff issues than the 20 30 & even 40 yr olds. Heck the 50's is the new 30's so the 60's are the new 40's. Age is just a number anyway - we aren't our Mother's 50 or 60 - we are younger. My best gf is 60.. and we still think we are youngesters,.. I was banded as I want to live a few more yrs and staying fat was going to cut those yrs by what i don't know - but for sure where going to reduce my life expectancy... At our age - we know that tomorrow isn't promised and we want to live our lives to the fullest which is HARD to do when you are carrying around tons of extra weight. Good luck to you on your jounery to be banded. Read all you can and ask tons of questions. You will be well educated on this board.. Blessing to you -

Post-op diet- will a scoop of icecream in protein drinks hurt band?
IndioGirl55 replied to AmyF's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Amy I wasn't a big shake fan either - but i did it cuz that's what i was told to do. I just kept working on them till i found one i liked That scoop of ice cream has alot of calories - try sf ice cream or I think dannon lite makes a coffee chocolate yogurt... only 60 calories.. Good luck the 1st week is the hardest - it gets better day by day. -
Jeanie - Teaching takes a specia talent even if its 4 yr olds. We all have that one teacher or if we are lucky a few that made a difference in our lives - I remember my nursery school teacher (that's what they use to call it in the old days:o) Kindergarden, 1st grade (got my had slapped with a ruler for kissing a boy - who is now gay - wonder if that kiss did it ) 7th grade & High School - I was very lucky to have some great teachers in my life. But I do love to think of all the possibilities - my gf hubby and i have great debates - Only - 2 bites of cake :clap2: - just think in the old days you would have had the whole piece if not more :biggrin1:. I went to a wedding a couple of weeks ago and had 2 bites of the cake - lemon w/frosting - oh it was good. On the subject - food DEMONS IMHO - I don't think that those demons ever go away, i think the band helps control them - but they will always be lurking in the background of our brains - and will spring up at anytime. I have read post from some oldtime banders and they seem to still have to work on making the right decisions. Heck even skinny people eat too much sometimes also they eat cake, ice cream, Cookies, chips just a little not like we do - they stop at 1 or 2 where with me it was 6 - 8. I find that once you are off sugar you don't crave it as much. I have been happy w/my sf puddings - the only thing i really have been wanting is a brownie or piece of cake - I have an ice cream cake in the outside freezer - i think about it - but as long as i don't take that 1st bite - i am ok - if i take that 1st bite then i will be a goner - Also, I can be full but still want to eat cuz it taste good - that's always been my problem.. Now I get full on a sandwich plate size meal instead of 2 large dinner plates - but sometimes i still want to eat... This is the food demon i am battleing -

MsL - I am sorry that the other site ridiculed you... I am resigterd on ObesityHelp & band2gether - but this is my site of choice.. I love it !!! if you mess up (most of us do at one time or another - they banded our stomach not our heads ) you will be told that it's wasn't a good thing but you will be told in a loving way not to beat yourself up and just get back on the wagon. Also, it depend on how bad you messed up - you can hurt yourself so be careful - you don't want all the preop - surgery etc to be for not.. Good Luck in making wise choices .... -

IndioGirl55 replied to Susan70's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It seem like for everyone your port site hurts the most - I am a month out and i no longer have port site pain - it gets better each day. You guys were banded 8/16 tht only 3 days ago - I was banded on 7/17 and was feeling pretty good by the 20th and back to work on the 23rd (desk job) Month out feel like i never had surgery (meaning back to normal - just eating less) -
Nubbybuddy ON the pbing - i read last night where someone who doesn't have a fill pd'd eating chicken - reason too fast not chewing so I guess it does happen to people who don't have fills - but since you aren't on reg food you don't need to overly concern yourself. Are you eating heathly request (low fat soups) or regular - are you making them with Water or skim milk (up's your protein) - I think you are fine and you are beings satisfied - which imho is a big deal. the way i look at it is that we are eating so much less than we use to - that we have to lose weight - I just saw the word juice - what kind of jucie??? Not regular - it's full of sugar - you need stuff that has splenda or whatever. You need to make smart choices - low fat - low sugar Nubby it doesn't sound like your dr has given you a lot of info?? Like what kind of diet you should be on or how much protein you are suppose to have (Minimum 60 grms) Do you have any clear liquid Protein drinks. I guess i am lucky my doc sells all this stuff and also gives me sample. Also I was on this board 24/7 prior to surgery and learned so much. Keep reading all the post - go to crazy ates - that's the support group for August banders - you can also ck out Lucky #7's that's my group - read from page one - there is tons of info (even how to get your ticker)- also ck out how's weight for people over 50 - read post by "wasabubblebutt" her writing style is a bit abrasive but she truely is a nice person - but i think she has alot of good info - she's a nurse - her diet is only 600 - 8oo calories but she has some problems with spasams (sp) and need to get weight off quickly. There are tons of people here who have lost `100+ - read those post - Just keep reading and the more info you have - the better you will do. Good Luck and if you need anything - Just ask...
-
We sure do - :clap2: I could never to caluicis (can't even spell it) I am like you Jeannie the psychology & sociology intrigues me.. I want to take classes when I retire.
-
Jackie Anne said it better that I could - it took 3 times on the scale to lose 2 lbs - scales are fickle things - with aunt flo in the neighborhood take it with a grain of salt - Also we lost alot of weight fast that 1st week after surgery (combined with pre-op) and our body has to catch up.... Stay positive - "The Secret"
-
to get the ticker - neat thingie on the bottom - you go to tickerfactory.com - follow the instruction to make your ticker then you go down and copy some stuff and paste into your signatue - i am not good at telling someone how to do it i just figure it out and do it. once you put it in your signature it always post when you make a post. There are instructions somewhere on how to do it (make the ticker) or just make an new post and ask for help and there will be someone to tell you how.

Nuddybuddy You are not going to pd or slime if you follow the rules - tiny bites, chew 1 mil times etc. and do what your doc says (you might pd or slime prior to a fill but i don't think so - it's after you get a fill that you can pb & slime (I think - i haven't read that anyone in my July support groupt has) and you don't chew - take big bites - eat dry food and eating too fast and eating too much- this is what causes pding & sliming) Mushies - I ate yellow squash - mash potatoes - refired Beans - deviled ham & chicken, soups, spagheti sauce with riccota cheese - there is a food thread on this board with ideas of what to eat. I really sugget that you read read read and ask questions here an with your doctor - The 1st 2 week i ate about 1/2 cup and then 1 cup and now 1 to 2 cups. How much are you eating??? When do you feel full -

How is weight loss for people over 50?
IndioGirl55 replied to debi717's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Nickanut - I try and eat lite in the morning & for lunch - I save most of my calorie budget for nites - I did this with WW - Jenny Craig etc I save 200 - 300 calories for my night time snack (i don't have one between Breakfast & lunch nor between lunch & dinner) I usually end up eating 2 sf double choc puddings 60 cal each & 1 heathly request fudge cycle 80 and maybe a teaspoon of peanutbutter. I use sandwich plates and a 1 cup bowl for my meals and have small forks & spoons. Good Luck - We are here for you any time you have a question, want to vent - whatever you need, Margi - That's GREAT !!!! I want a fill but at the same time a little afraid. I have restriction now but could use just a tad more. I am glad you can EAT.. there is nothing worst than not eating even if it is 1/4 of what we ate before:rolleyes: -
Hi Joy We get emails that tell us someone reply to a thread which we subscirb to - you will see once you post... I don't know your doc - I only know mine and I only found 2 that knew him - Good Luck on your journey - read all the post on this site (good & bad) and you will have all the info you need to make the right deceision for you..
-
Nuddybuddy - Do you have sleep apenea ?? This could be the cause for your headache.. As to your post op diet - what did your doc say - i was allow full liquids - Protein Shakes, sf jello sf pudding sf fudge cycles - heathly request cream of ck soup - really any creamed soup with no chuncks - i even made soupy mash potatoes - i could only eat 1/2 cup at a time the 1st week or so, then with pureed it increased. I have some restriction but not a lot - I don't go for a fill til next month. Why do u think you are going to be sick??? If you follow your doc's orders you should be fine. You haven't had a fill yet and it's when you are too tight eat too fast or take big bites that you will pb & slime. I haven't heard of too many having that problem right out of surgery - but i could be wrong.. I was told not to lift over 5 lbs - so I haven't - have been making my grandson vaccum - i did dishes - washed clothes and made my bed - washed the patio & slider my 3rd day home.. I suggest that you research this board as you will find tons of info that will help you with your Lapband Journey,, Miss Darlene - I sell insurance to:). I'm 52 had surgery on tues and back at work on Monday - I think it will depend on how quickly you bounce back - I didn't need anyone to wipe my tush or vajj - I was able to do that all by myself. I would not say it's pain free - when i 1st woke up the day of surgery it felt like an elephant kicked me and still had its foot on my chest - I took pain shots for the 1st 24 hrs (i stayed overnight in the hospital) and some shoulder pain on the 18th from the gas - but by thrusday i was ok - walking slowly and sort of hunched over just a tad - each day it get's better and better - but i wouldn't say it was virtually pain free - not bad but not pain free Good Luck !!!

Linda - CONGRATS ON THE 5 POUNDS :whoo::whoo: That's GREAT:clap2: No i didn't have any breath test - but did take some kind of pencillen the day before surgery... You are doing fantastic - Keep up the good work - I don't get a fill until 9/5 - i could use one right now:)

Mermaidpuppy - :girl_hug::scared::girl_hug::nono::girl_hug: HUGS TO YOU I Am sorry to read this I gained 6 lbs between my 1st on 5/31 visit and my pre-op visit 7/6 all due to last meal mentallity.. But I did have a pre-op diet for 7 days plus 2 colon cleanse and they didn't even weigh me the day of surgery... I am 52 had surgery on Tues was at work on Monday (i do have a desk job) Do the liquid diet go to the mall near you and walk there - 100 degrees is cool to me - try 111 and its 100 at 9 pm. got back in 2 weeks and show him you can do it. My best to you :nono::girl_hug::nono: -
Eileen - EatBeater (Southwestern style) with cheese, yellow squash, zuccine, spaghette sauce with riccotta cheese, creamed soups (healthy request kind w/skim milk) creamed spinach (low fat) - califlower over cooked and mashed - cat fish baked (or any kind that can be mushed up) and mushed up real good, refried beans, take the steak tips and run them thru a blender or magic bullett. These are all the items i ate on mushie stage - but they were allowed by my doctor... Hunger is hunger and I still have it even with regular food - last night i was FULL but still wanted to eat to taste the food - Our food issues will be with us ALWAYS!!!! Well as long as we have a brain - cuz that's our problem - to bad they don't have a band for that
-
