Is it possible to not be overweight?
IndioGirl55 replied to sbee's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It's not the band, but, you who will get you to your goal weight and yes it is possible. The band isn't the "MAGIC SOLUTION" to get you there - in fact the BAND won't get you there - only you with the help of the band will get you to your goal weight. You must eat properly, excercise use the band as the tool that it was designed for to help control portion size Do not listen to the nay-sayers .... -
Congrats to my So Ca Sis :clap2::clap2:- - Read & Post - this is a great place for support - go and look for Support thread for those banded in Sept..
-
Ask your doctor - Everyone's doctors instructions are different
-
Count me as interested - but I really don't know where we can go except Alaska at that time of year because of the hurricanes - and it's way too hot & humid in mexico that time of yr even without the hurricanes - I was in maztiland last yr at a resort in June and about died from the humidity... Well yes this August i will be thinner but it's still HOT & Humid...

I am happy for you...:clap2::clap2::clap2: It's funny with my fill - I ate a whole cup of soup for lunch & dinner did fine am full - but try to eat yogurt or pudding (which are on my full liquid diet) I can't finish them - yogurt can only eat about 3 oz and pudding cup all but 2 bite - and you know how are it is for us to leave those 2 bite Ok guy - I like coffe but don't know how to do all that starbucks ordering = you know what i mean cappucino w/skim milk no foam etc. i like the mocha frappacino - but they have too many calories even the light ones. But it's some that i can leave or take - Don't Love It.. I buy hazelnut coffee & creamer and drink 1 or 2 in the morning an thats it.. I might hit starbuck when I am in Target - but don't go out of my way. I do like their black ice tea lemonade ...

Phyl - Ok here i go again showing my rebeling side - I would stage a "sit in" till you get your fill now not 10/8,,, I agre with Mango HELL NAW.... Really though = go to their office and demand an appointment now.. How many people in your area are banded - we don't have that many people that dr b would be booked up a month in advance. Thanks for being proud of me - I am lucky not to have too many problems with my body = that's the reason i did this - i don't want my knees hips etc to wear out from all this weight I agree with Chim this made me tear up too... Yes we all do understand each other... I love this board.

Hi Gang Kathy - that's great that your hubby is full time Chris54 - Onelander - is when you get back being in the 100's (ie 199 you are a onelander) I have been keeping my calories around 1000 - 1200 and have been doing either 1 or 2 lbs a week - I am excercising a lot too - most weeks get 13 miles in 5 day. I am pretty much staying away from carbs - will have 1/2 cup rice, pasta etc w/dinner but that's about it. I did buy some lite bread 45 calories a slice and had a couple of sandwichs - but since i got my fill yesterday I am back on the diet i had after surgery - 1 wk full liquid - 1 wk pureed- 1 wk soft - wk 4 regular Brandy = Congrats on the weight loss:clap2: ssankofa73 - don't be afarid of your fill - Mine is GREAT - I haven't been hungry all day - Marcy - Your DH calls and pulls that for you - is it cuz he's a man that you get the results. I know that and underwriter will tell me know but when my producer talks to him/her they say yes (I work insurance) I HATE that people give men preferrial (sp) treatment.. Congrats on 10 yrs:clap2: Well it after 8 - time to go eat and watch a little t.v. talk to ya'll tomorrow.. Where are our ring leaders - Chim & Dini - When we 1st started they were here 24/7... Love Dini's stories and Chim you are so positivie and Breadlady I remember she was like one of the 1st banders along with dini if i remember right I know they have lives... nighty night

Bandsters...wish you did Bypass instead?
IndioGirl55 replied to a topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Debbie You are 1 yr younger than me and the same weight i was when i 1st met my surgeon. I was banded 7/17 and to date have lost 28.5 lbs (i went up to 250 with my last meal mentally prior to surgery) I agree I would love to be 188 - 170 is my goal for the time being - i dont know if i want to be 120 again - omg the sagging skin I love my band - had my 1st fill yesterday and have not been hungry today at all - I am a tad hunger right now and will leave in a bit to go eat. The band is a TOOL the real work is still up to you... Good luck on your journey - read read read get all the info you can - and good luck -
Phyl CONGRATULATIONS :clap2::clap2: on your rip off :heh::heh::heh::heh::eyebrows: I love it:cool::cool: and yes you deserved the treat... Keep calling Steve - bug the sh*t out of him.... But i gotta say you still aren't eating as much as i was - Last Thrus had 2 slices of pizza then later on and slice & 1/2 - I don't know your doc's rules for eating after a fill - but i should have eaten a good lunch yesterday cuz i am on full liquids for 1 week - then pureed & soft for 2 weeks and not til week 4 reg food - I can say I am not hungry right now and all i have had today is 1 clear protein drink - protein soup 6 oz and i am sipping on another clear protein drink (love them peach mango a.m and grape right now - get them from dr bobbies office) .. Hope you get that fill soon.... xoxox Janet
-
Denise - Sorry to hear that you have such a sh*tty doctor - I love mine - i saw him my consult - pre-op - the morning of surgery - he talked to my son & dil and told them everything went find - saw him in the hospital - I have his cell phone # - he did my fill yesterday - he doesn't have the fluor - had a hard time finding the soft spot in my port - but finally did - hand me drink water as he filled the band - I don't know how they could stick your band as your port is just under the skin and your stomach is a way in there and the outside of the band is hard plastic it's the inside that is the soft plastic... Don't worry they aren't going to ruin your band... and if they did they would have to fix i would think - but i really don't think they can imho... Good luck on your fill -
-
OMG Jackie :clap2::clap2::clap2::clap2: You go girl on that exercising :clap2::clap2::clap2::clap2: I can only do 40-60 minutes 3.0 on intervals 2 of flat 2 on 3.. and i am DEAD after that - I couldn't do anything else... Congrats on the weight loss too... You are doing ficking fantastic....:bounce::bounce::bounce::bounce::bounce:

Waiting for Consult. Would like some insight on Post LapBand patients
IndioGirl55 replied to dietfailure's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Dietfailure.. Welcome to the beginning of your journey for a healthy life. Read all that you can on this board - Read the good & bad - each person has different experiences - Mine have been good so far - knock on wood.. I was banded 7/17 and am down 28.5 lbs - Got my first fill yesterday - I am on full liquids (clear/cream Soups etc) for a week - pureed/soft for 2 weeks and by week 4 s/b back on regular food. All doctors are diff on their instruction to their patients.. The band is a TOOL ONLY not the magic pill that we all want - I say that it does 25% of the job (restricts your portions) but you still have to do the other 75% of the work by choosing healthy low fat - low sugar foods and exercise. I have worked at losing these 28.5 lbs - I walk 2-3 miles a day (4-5 times a week) i eat fish (i like it) most nights have had chicken, turkey meat loaf - steak & hamburger patties - with some veggies and 1/2 cup of brown rice or whole wheat Pasta. I would do it again in a minutes... I think you will find more positive results than negetive ones even from those who aren't losing as fast as they would like .. With all our yo-yo dieting we have screwed up our metabolisms. I still have head hunger (your tummy is full but you want to eat anyway) and this is just something you have to deal with - get up do something to occupy your mind.. Again - only you can make the right choice for you.. Gather all the info you can so that you can make an informed decision. Good Luck... -
How is weight loss for people over 50?
IndioGirl55 replied to debi717's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Phyl http://www.lapbandtalk.com/f18/hello-any-oldies-out-there-im-almost-63-want-live-39832/ I think this is what you are looking for - this is where I met NM Sunshine and told her about the 50+ thread... -
Welcome to the newbies. This is a great place I too got my 1st fill this afternoon - Dr numbed me up - thank the Lord cuz it took him a LONG time to find the hole... He felt my port but couldn't find the soft spot where the fill goes.. I was getting worried that my port had flipped but he finally found it (marked the chart TG) then had me sit up and drink water - I never slimmed - but felt like i had a bubble in my chest - he would take some out and have me drink some more back and forth until he thinks we have my sweet spot.. I didn't get home until after 6 and then played taxi to GS. Just sat down - I am a little hunger but not much - worked through lunch so just had a clear liquid protein drink.. I have to be on full liquids for 1 week - then pureed for a week then soft and week 4 can a try regular food... I go back in 2 months. So I guess I will have cream of ck soup for dinner and some protein powder... Heck going on liquids for a week will be good for the weight loss issue - since i don't think i have lost any weight this week since i ate so much this past weekend - Didn't eat anywhere close to how i use to eat - but you know what i mean alot more than i have been. Kathy - Congrats on your daughter becoming totally yours :clap2: Phyl - Hopefully you will get in on Monday - I feel your pain - I needed this fill before I returned to my bad eating habits... As to the stupid grill place don't even ask for a box - just fill up your plate with all the stuff you like and pack it up in your own box and have meals for a few days - do you have to go on full liquids after your fill - I would sugget doing it before your fill. I should have had a good lunch today - i guess i wasn't thinking - but i had to leave early for my appointment so had to work thru lunch.. Citygirl - I think your doc need to see you how can they tell over the phone. My port incision is red but closed - its the holes that seem to be taking forever to heal - they aren't complete healed still have little scabs and it's been 6 weeks.. But the dr said they looked good. Brandy Congrats on the 180's - I would be ten from goal if I were in your shoes... Well it's 8:15 and i am off to fix me some soup... Everyone take care and I will let you know tomorrow how this fill is going.. Last night ate 2 cups spinach and turkey meatloaf burger and was hunger and hour later.. Sweet Dreams:notagree
-
Chim - Thanks for missing me I was busy buying car for grandson - taking care of 2 grandaughters - taxing around 16 yr grandson - DIL B-day - but now back to work - so back to normal. My triggers - being tired, love the taste of food, time filler = boredom, and it helps me sleep at night (self medication) I need a full tummy to sleep - I say my Mother never weaned us off the bottle as all my family members are night time eaters (we are talking 2 a.m.)
-
ok the last 3 post are from me - so everyone must be busy - I am hunger it's 8 p.m. and havent had dinner yet - spinach & turkey meat loaf patty.. Sweet dreams everyone - talk to you all tomorrow....
-
Phly The gas prices was at Circle K this weekend.. I am glad your DH is relaxing a bit - I hate my friends who call and say "How are you doing" When all they want to know is how much weight i loss this week.. and right now - i bet i gained a pound or 2 after all my eating this weekend. but its still less than pre-banding...- I just don't know how to get ahold of my night time hunger.. got up and ate 2 fudge cicles last night plus a yogurt. heck thats 220 calories - I need to take a sleeping pill about 9 and get up at 5 - that would be great... I will let you all know how my fill goes tomorrow - I know that i will have to be on liquods for a day or 2 after the fill - but i can deal with 2 days - it's sure better than 10 days:eek:.. Tell you what to do when / if you go eat at that monglian place - take a big purse with you that day - and a couple of baggies - make your own damn doggie bag - That way you can try the place out and have your doggie bag too... That's what i would do... but again i am a bit of a rebel - tell me no - and i will find away around that no
-
Shannon I feel you -- I go tomorrow for my 1st fill - and right now i am able to eat too much (imho) i am doing 90% of the work. My problem is after dinner and during the night. I would suggest getting that fill - why wait until you do start eating too much - nip it in the bud... Keep the weight loss going - 24 lbs since 7/30 is great - I'm 7/17 and 26.5 and have been exercising my butt off (well to me i am walking on the treadmill at the gym 2 or 3 miles daily (well really 4 or 5 days a week) and i was a total slug bug before surgery. After this weekend - where i ate pizza - bday cake etc - who knows how much i gained... IMHO get the fill...
-
Well that was a scary pic:rolleyes - oh ya - i forgot to congratulate you on the BAGGY CLOTHES - they looked 3 sizes too big :clap2: My Sister's Dad (we share the same Mom) had chickens and when her brother would kill them and her Dad would cook them she wouldn't eat that night - My Xhubby raised goats and they killed one to cook and eat (it's great barbque) even he couldn't eat it and he is one of those bad boy kinda guy... I'm not as adventrous as you... Even when I was young - i always had a bit of caution in me.. I think - but heck I have been out on my own and a Mom since I was 16 - so didn't have too many wild teenage yrs.
-
Shannon - I too have accidently found myself drinking through a straw (Starbuck Ice Tea) had no problems - I thinks it's the air issue - I go to the doctor tommorrow and I am going to ask .... My 1st Fill !!!! CONGRATURATIONS !!!!! THAT'S SO GREAT !!!!! This is my fav saying too... "I'll think about it tommorrow" Food got me this weekend too - Thrus had 3 1/2 pieces of pizza 2 for dinner and 1 during the middle of the night. Friday - was my DIL bday - went to Outback - had a few bloomin onions - 1/4 cup clam chowder - all my baked potato w/sour cream and a couple bite of steak - came home had 1/2 slice of cake - then during the night ate the rest of my steak and another piece of cake... Ate popcorn on Saturday the whole freaking bag... Also make a great turkey meat loaf on Saturday and again ate too much of that during the night and next day - did ok yesterday - and am fine now that i am back to work... Nights are so very tuff for me... If i wasn't so hungry at night - i would have lost more weight by now - but after this weekend i most likely gained  I NEED MY FILL!!!! Dini - only 2 1/2 hrs away and things cost so much less... I would go once a month. Do you drive there or take train/bus etc ... I know gas cost alot more over there than here - but we are catching up... Today $2.69 is the cheapest per gallon here in the desert. There should be a warning about Macry's ck picture... I don't think we want to piss her off... She just might ring our necks like the chickens  Marcy - Sorry you can't eat what you kill (chicken) - but i could never do that.. I am a city girl - i buy my meat at the store .... I don't even gut fish - will scale them but that's it... I guess that why you live in Alaska and I live here in the city... I am not a country girl Well - lunch hour is over ... gotta get back to work - talk to you all later...
-
Well, after reading this I am stressed for you - My program fee covers my fills and all appointments for the next 5 yrs with my doc. But it's still his way of making $$$$$$ - and getting around insurance... I don't think that my cost (my side of the insurance) would have been as much as the fee - but I wanted a local doctor - didn't want have to take a day off work just to see the doctor for a fill etc. My best to you in dealing with all this Ruby --- I would be screaming at someone in a very nice way at first then then would get my temper
-
Ruby I understand your frustration - but gotta ask and don't mean to be mean- you don't know that if you are out of network that you have the pay a bigger portion of the bill?? My Doctor's office made all my presugery appointment - and said that they would make them with Blue Cross Doctors - but as those doctors called I pulled out my book - to make sure they we in network doctors. My doctor has a large program fee and that's his way of making more $$$$ - imho all these people are into making $$$ and they don't care who pays - in fact they rather have you pay since they then get more $$$ as insurance doesn't pay squat... My sleep study was $2300 insurance paid $500 - I paid $60 and that was that... Any test that you have done or any doctors you go to You have to make sure that they are in your network - To date my out of pocket has been $1,700 and this doesn't include program fee - So if you have only had $452 prior to the sleep study I would be happy - I haven't even got a bill yet from the hospital so who knows how much i am going to owe them. All i can say is I am sorry for your sistuation but yougotta check your insurance book and make sure that eveyone you go to is in network or you are going to have to pay tons more
-
Nope... I don't regret it at all...... I have lost 26.5 lbs since July... The first week the pounds dropped off and have been 1 - 2 lbs a week - which is what they tell you to expect - You need to know that 75% of your success will be up to YOU - NOT THE BAND - good food choices - exercise and controlling your head hunger. I will be full but still want to eat and i have a hard time at night. I am a night eater. I don't have food to fill up my evenings any longer. I don't have a fill yet - went to dinner at Outback last night - had a few blooming onions - 1/4 cup clam chowder - couple of bite of my steak - and a baked potato and i was STUFFED.. Came home and had 1/2 piece of cake (it was my daughter in laws bday) and could not eat anymore. I eat alot of fish - chicken and veggies - i have 1/2 cup of brown rice or Pasta with my meal. I am making good food choices and am eating heahtly... I still want to eat fattening foods- the band does not take away that - But I am determined to get this weight off.... I would do it again in a minute - can't wait until Wed - when i get my 1st fill... Read, Read, Read and ask questions - Good Luck on you WLS journey
