How is weight loss for people over 50?
IndioGirl55 replied to debi717's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Sue I to am afaird of that honeymoon phase - I have done it so many times before - but there are people here who have gotten to goal and 1 -2 yrs later still there... Good Luck to all of us -

Ssankofa - My dr fill instructions 1 week liquids - 1 week mushie - 1 week soft - 4th week regualar - and I don't remember the amount of food he said i should be able to eat - i think 1/2 to 1 cup...

Phyl - It was Laurend who was going to keep our totals - I suspect she is busy wiith school as she hasn't been on the boards much...

I too can some days eat too much in my opinion and other i don't

I am like you - I ate 1/2 english muffin and i am not hungry..

Who know why - it could be us - it could be the band - I just love the times i'm not hungry - so I don't question it

CC you and me - the sneaky rebels - But I think you have to sometimes change things that are going to work for you. I really don't think that saving your snack from the morning to eat at night is going to hurt - cuz you know if you eat it in the morning and then at night when you are starving you are going to eat something extra anyway cuz you are so hungry - that's an extra 100 calorie - that's 700 a week - where as if you saving your morning snack for night time you aren't adding calories.. I agree it's a childhood thing as I was telling someone earlier my Mom use to try and control my eating - but that just made me sneaky.. I do have to change things to work for me - I know my weaknesses..

CC - Who is Sydney?? Is this your daughter?? I have said a prayer My heart goes out for this little girl and family - Will keep her in my prayers..
-
My doc - 3 meals - & healthy snacks... ie low fat string cheese, yogurt, veggies etc - all the stuff we know - but don't always do
-
Jeanine I am right there with you - you are not being overly sensitive... I only told 2 people in my office - and omg everyone knows - even some company people (who I may have told anyway - but it was mine to tell not theirs) and i even have a gf who wants to be banded calling me weekly - it's just a lot of added pressure and we don't need people looking at how much we eat etc - This was a health decision not a keep up with the jones thing - I have on gf who is afraid i will be thinner than her.. She is now going to some thing that make you lose weight (like doing 300 sit ups) with out any exercise - some asyrssa (sp) system... I would have spoken up at the MADE comment -

Here is the truth about the band
IndioGirl55 replied to alysedg23's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Ok Docsdeb - calm down - take a deep breath - relax... Everyone's experience with the band is different. There are tons of people here who have never been stucked, slimed or bp'd - if you follow your doctors orders - eat slow chew chew etc you should be just fine - it's when people eat too fast don't chew etc that these things can happen - and a golf ball in your chest isn't choking - It's like an air bubble right between your boobs - it didn't last long and it's cuz i ate too much As to the adjustments - my doc has lady who is 5 months out and never had a fill - it is an individual basis - yes but you will have to go get a fill - your doc could hit your sweet spot the 1st time. 99% of those who posted here love their bands - why would you let this one thread change your mind especailly since it truely is the most positivtive thread for being banded. Only you can make this decision - and i wish you the best in making it... -

IndioGirl55 replied to FatAttack's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
lol phyl - well thats what he gets for trying to control your eating maybe you need to bring that to his attention - I guess you can see why i'm not married - i am such a witch... -
Ya i agree with the no voting off - premise would be who was able to help the most to get the slower losers or the unmotivated motitvated through kindness and support and a tad pit of tough love - but i can't stand the yelling that' would never motivate me... I have it tivo'd and havent' watched it yet... and the amount of exercise they have - omg i would be dead on day one.. throwing up omg - that can't be good and a sign that your body is over worked - I don't like that part of the show.

Cathie Thanks you so very much for your kind words - made me tear up a little cuz someone thought i was smart - but I feel that there are smarter and more articulate (sp) women here more than me. I am a plan talker - terrible typist & speller - but am a deep thinkers some times - just an everyday kinda girl. Do you know how I got so smart about the band??? Here on Lapbandtalk.com and my doctor too. But I learned so much here. I read and read and read all the good and bad possibilities - I have been looking into this for about 2 yrs - Obestyhelp was also another site i was on 1st before i came here and band2gether - I like it here the best. As far as being helpful - the way I look at it is we are ALL in the same boat - we are all FAT and most of us have been for quite some time. We are all in the same age brackett here - we can all relate to the same things as we were all brought up in the same era - maybe diff circumstands but basically the same. There is one thing I have learn in my 52 yrs is that everyone is BASICALLY the same in their thoughts - feelings etc - some of us admit to them and some of us have hide them. But we all are human and depending on our life experiences which have colored us as to who we are today, we are all the same (just diff colors due to our diff llife expereinces) - omg i really like that analogy .... I am just a newbie compare to some of the ladies (bjean - michelle aka dynamomini - green - Denise just to name a few) here and they helped me on my journey to be banded - throught my little scare of breast biospsy - This place is a great support group - infact it is the only one i belong to since being banded - My hospital has one but it's mostly bypass and I feel that being banded is diff and they haven't started one just for banders yet - and this place is some place where you can come daily - not just once a week or month... I am here too much some times when I should be working:eek: Listen to the advice - and what needs to be stressed the most and usually is - is that the band is only a tool - not the magic answer to our weight issues (and I can tell you - you will get people who think you are taking the easy road )- it's not you have to do most of the work by changing the way you look at food You gotta make alot of changes to how you eat (healthy) excercise - mental issues - the band does 25% of the work you will do the other 75%. My success has been that I am eating heathly 99% of the time and I have been excercising 5 days a week - that has been my #1 priority it is what comes first - I MUST go to the gym when i get off work and am pissed off if i can't - don't misunderstand - I don't like it much at all - in fact i dislike it (exercise) - but loving the weight loss - so that equate to eating right & exercise - The band has given me the motitvation to do this along with all the people here. Love & Hugs to you and my lapband Family - cuz that's what they are "family" Good luck on this journey - Janet -
Jackie 46 lbs :clap2: all that in / out house work :clap2: - you deserve a rest:eek: We seem to have some really "BIG LOSSERS" here - I think we should start our own tv show

Ssankofa I don't think your fill is working - I couldn't eat much when I 1st got filled. But now 10 days later I am eating as much as your are now... I would call your doc or fill place on Monday... I'm going to call myself a I think I can eat too much too. Excercise Record 2 miles 36 minutes on incline of 3 intervals - 2 dots at level 2 dots at 3 incline - (treadmill) and then did about 10 minutes on the weights - arms & legs...

Jeannie 45 lbs - CONGRATULATION TO YOU TOO !!!!!!:clap2::clap2:

To bad I don't live in your city - cuz if I did then I would be your patient and I bet you would have me cracking up (literially and figurelativly) sp... I need a good chiropractic Dr.. Mine retired and I don't like the young ones - they want you to keep coming back - my old doc just fixed me usually the 1st time and that was it... didn't have to go back for weeks. Again I always enjoy your post....

Ribearty - For me that really wouldn't work - as i am a stubborn - rebel and if I want it I will eat it and no one is going to tell me what or what not to eat.. I am the boss of me... Don't i sound just like the spoiled little/old girl that i am But it is a good suggestion for those who would be intimidated by their surgeon.. My theory is eating something I know I shouldn't is what got me fat in the first place and so far I have been successful in eating primarily only good stuff - - I haven't bought or ate any candy - never been a big chip person - did have a piece of bday cake but that's it - My weight problem was not really too much what i ate but was how much and lack of exercise. I don't eat fast food but maybe 4 - 6 times a year. I eat real food - like large bowls of mash potatoes - Fried taco - steak with all the fat on it - I love FAT I MISS FAT - I COULD ALMOST EAT:hungry: A TUB OF BUTTER (Paula Dean and I must be related) if i made a tamale pie - i would eat 1/2 to 3/4 in one night - not all at once mind you but between 7 p.m. to 3 a.m it would be almost gone. and i was a total couch potato ... Now i primralily eat fish veggies brown rice salad that is not dripping in dressing and am reading labels and counting calories.. once you count calories you get a big shock in how many calories in a little 1/2 cup of rice or mash potates... Lucky you with 65 - it's 9 pm and still 107 here in the Desert Well, its late I'm haven't eaten tonite - so gotta go cook that fish & veggies since i did eat that soft taco for lunch... and yes i would have eaten it in front of my doct as it wasn't fried - but what i don't know is how many calories in beef tongue??:omg: I bet not that much whadda ya think - did i gross you out - Here in the Desert it is primarily mexican - so I have grown up on mexican food = i really did have a lengua (sp) (tongue) taco for lunch - and it was really good.. I eat menudo and tripas and all that good stuff..

OMG 3 under 4 - Ya i would have taken that vacation too... you deserved it

Excuse me all but i gotta ask Jack a question.... What do you do for a living or if you are retired what did you do?? By the way you write I think you are/were writer of some kind or a professor... You are so i don't know if my vocabulary is big enought to find the word i am looking for. But I enjoy your sense of humor and your writing style. Back to the topic at hand... Vomit - haven't been sick - so can't answer but think it already has been Sex - What's that Granddaughter 3 - just told her LaLa had an ouwie (sp) Pre-0p - every doc is different - i had 7 days liquid w/fish veggies for dinner - prior to pre-op diet - last supper from 5/31 to 7/8 gained 5 lbs between 5/31 & 7/6 - I ate all the bad foods that i like.
-
Becca - I am a July bander too - I just got my 1st fill 9/5 and last weekend I slimed with a little pb - i don't think it hurts the band (at least the sliming - i think slime is where you are sort of blocked and your saliva just cant go down into your tummy - i don't know how that could hurt - but i a newbie at this too - so cant answer 100%

IndioGirl55 replied to debi717's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Cathie 5/31 visit w/surgeon - had tons of pre-op visits - sleep, stress (3 visits to heart dr - failed treadmill had to have a nuclear stress tes) lungs, colon, pap, mamo, shrink and by end of June had my 7/17 date. I have Blue Cross CA and they were great - approved me after they got the shrink results.. Good Luck - This is a GREAT place for info ....
