  4. I LOVE DOCTOR BOBBIE & KRISTEN his main gal... Ya, Palm Springs is alot closer than LA - I was just at a bbq today and my Uncle is thinking of moving to Hemet he says people are freindly there... Who knows my Uncle changes his mind every other day Where were you banded Mexico???
  5. Dainelle - I'm 52 - I get up at 5 a.m. drop my grandson (he lives w/me) off at school and am at my desk at 7:30 a.m - I work til 4 - pick up my GS and come home change clothes go to the gym immediately and get on the treadmill - i usually do 2 miles everday minimum and 2 days i try and do 3 miles. Once I got cleared on 9/5 I started adding the weights - at first i was doing 1 mile in half hr then slowly built up - i am now doing a 17 or 18 min mile and not sweating as much at the end of the 2 miles. I go to the gym everday execpt Thrus & Sunday (did go on sunday when I was on vacation) I make sure i carve 1 hr a day for me. I do not ALLOW myself the to make any excuse as to why i can't go to the gym today. cuz if i do i will miss one then 2 then 3 and end up not going - You have to WORK to get thin & healthy - just being thin doesn't mean you are healthy... Danielle there are no magic answers for us - the only answer is to eat less and exercise - the band helps with the protion control but thats only 25% of the battle - the other 75% is up to you. Good Luck you can do it if you put your mind to it...

I need a kick in the butt after 2 years

Ok - 1 yr of pitty party is long enough - you know what the problem is so that's half the problem. Pick yourself up by the boot straps and put one foot in front of the other one day at a time and get back on the BAND WAGON.... Don't buy the sinking ice cream - if you don't have it you won't eat it - buy sf popcicles or fudgecicles if you just have to have it. Get a fill - start exercising - you can come here every night for your support. Good luck we are here for you...
  7. 18 lbs is great - also if you don't have as much to lose - that weight loss will be slower too - 300lbs is going to lose the first few pounds quicker than someone who is 200 lbs. Ok now we know the problem - gotta find a soultion. What kind of exercise are you doing??? What are you grazing on?? Can you up your exercise - I have be reading where interval train is great for lossing weight - walk 5 minuts fast then run 1 minute - walk 5 = run 1 - increase as you can - those little burst of energy are eating up your fat... What can yo do to stop the grazing - can you at least find something low in calories to nosh when you are hungry - can you save your a.m. snack for later when you really have the urge to nosh... Well, I gotta get the kitchen cleaned my GS made a mess and get read for work tomorrow - will talk to you later. n.
  8. Danielle - Don't know who you meant this for - but do you want to know how i have lost the weight 30 lbs - I have worked by a$$ off - I go to the gym 5 days a week - walk 13 miles and do some weight - I eat fish mostly every night with veggies - eat sf pudding - yogurt and healthy request ice cream. I may add 1/2 cup rice or Pasta to my meal at night - i eat about 1000- 1200 calories a day. I am doing more work that the band is I will tell you that.. The band doesn't exercise for you and with out exercise the weight is going to come off alot slower,
  9. Daniell - how much have you lost - its not an over night process - 1 to 2 lbs a week - I know that 1st week the pounds dropped of like flies but then one week only 1 lbs gone - I too was banded in July - come over to the Lucky #7 it's a great group you will get support advice etc. Look under monthly support groups - July 07.. What are you eating, how much are you exercising - when do you go for your 1st fill. Need more info... We are here to help
  10. It's not the manner in which you lose weight that causes your skin to sag it's your genitics and how long your skin has been pushed out. Thinks of a plastic garbage bag - fill it with 5 lbs of rock hold it and then take them out - bag didn't sag - now put 100 lbs of rocks in that bag - watch the bag streach and now take the rocks out - is the bag still streached out - yes... and if you are lucky enought to have some great genes - and haven't been fat for a long period of time - you might not need surgery regardless..
  11. I don't think Guiness was trying to be rude or judgemental - she never put anyone down - she stated the FACT that with the lapband it is expected that the overweight person would lose 30 to 40% of the amount of weight they needed to lose - it's the same as bypass but we have 2 yrs to do it and bypassers have to do it in one. There are people who do lose 100% of the weight that have to lose but the statistic are that we won't. FACT ladies & Gentleman - it was in the paper work you signed and read at your doctors office. Here is her post - where is she being judgemental - Please point it out to me cuz i am totally missing it. I'm newly banded, but I read a whole lot more than I ever post. I have spent hours and hours this last week doing a lot of reading here. I have read a lot of posts that its obvious that the people recognize that this a just a TOOL to help in weight loss. I have also read many posts where people were banded 2 or more years ago and have only lost 40 lbs. How in the world is that even possible? The physics of weight loss are simple. MORE ENGERY EXPENDED THAN CONSUMED = WEIGHT LOSS... Are their really people undergoing this operation that don't understand this? I am not judging anyone, please don't think this. But its like I see people FREAKING out if they dont feel "their restriction". What that says to me is that we are relying totally on our bands to do the work. For me I feel as if its going to be a lot more "headwork" than anything. I dunno, I could totally freak out if I don't feel it either. I just feel like as if I am scared that I will totally be dependent on the band to do everything when I know from that start that no matter what I have to do my part of eating right and moving my body. I read the results of the studies and its right there in black and white. People with lapband lose only 30-40% of their weight? What they aren't saying is why is this happening? It could be a multitude of things. But I like many others felt this was the best course for me and am committed to do the right things and let the band be my aid. I think it just goes to show that those so called "thorough psych evals" are hogwash. If any this doesnt make sense, forgive me. I tend to ramble when I have a lot of thoughts. Also, not trying to offend anyone. Just food for thought. I think that the reason that not everyone statically doesnt' get to goal weight is that we have an Addiction and they arent always cured even with the band or bypass - we all have hear stories of banders & bypassers who gain ALL their weight back... And yes we do put the hope into this band that - that wont' be us - but how many of us have loss our weight and said "Im never going to put it back on again" and then turned around and put it all back on if not more We can't put our head in to the sand and pretend this isnt fact. is it hitting to close to home. is that why everyone want to jump on her. Am I suppose to be supportive of you eating ten candy bars a day and crying that you aren't lossing weight -H*LL NO... this is all the poor girl was talking about - And I will stand my her on the firing lines Cuz if you get on here and tell me you are eating candy - i am going to be surportive about the what ever is causing you to eat - but as your friend - i am going to tell you - pull those boot straps up and get back on the Band Wagon - cuz drowning your sorrow in food ain't cutting it.. Also some times we need a little slap in the face to wake us up and not go back to our old destructive eating habit. We are FAT and we all got here by sticking fork after fork of food in our mouths and not exercising - Eating high fat - high surgar foods and in large quanities... What we have to change is our brains - it's too bad they can't band them - then we wouldn't be having this discussion...
  12. Guinessgirl - you are 1000% wright the band is only a tool and most of the work is up to you- imho i think that even thought people know this prior to surgery they still think in the back of their minds that this is the magic pill - I am doing most of the work - the band helps me feel full on a small amount of food- but i still have head hunger issues - there are a few who have metabolism problems - but they aren't the majority -

    Does Sliming hurt your band?

Sweetheart - I am way pass the baby making stage - so I don't know the answer - but I do know that you can get p.g. and i wasn't saying that you will never need a fill - it just right now it seems like to don't and if you get p.g. then most likely they would unfil you - your band will loosen as you lose weight and that why we get fills too. Good Luck - Ask all the questions, you need to and you will get the help this is a great place.

Lucky # Sevens- July 07 Bandsters

Cazulay - I am back - i did great - my nephew poured me a glass of wine i had one sip (ugh awful) and when he wasn't looking poured it out. Ate about 1/2 c chicken - 1/2 c pasta - 1/3 cup beans.... Not stuffed but full. CC - I totally understand - I had a cousin who had lukemina (sp) but she was older - 16 i think when they first discovered it - not clear on all the info as they lived in England. But for a child to be sick like this is just so very heart breaking... My grandson was born w/a club foot and it was so upsetting to me back then "Why Us God" then you go to childrens hospital and see a beautiful little girl with no arms - our problems could be worst (not meaning that i wish any problems on anyone) but just that we are usually so unappreciatitive of our own stituations. I will keep them in my prayers

    not losing weight

Hi Sinsin and WECLOME- imho this is the BEST site for banders- Ok you have lost 30 lbs in 4 months - that's 10 lbs a month. Which is a good average - What are you eating - How much are you eating??? Are you getting all your Protein in a day. Are you eating correctly - are you still going to the gym? Are you writting down everything you eat. What does your doctor say?? Have you had your metabolism tested.. The band is only a tool to help you lose weight you still have to do most of the work by changing your eating habits and that's the hardest part. We are here to help & support - this is a great place

    Does Sliming hurt your band?

The band is around your tummy the hole between your new tummy aka pouch and your old tummy is smaller than what is was and you are still healing from surgery (still could be a little swollen) - not everyone has to have a fill - there is a lady at mydoc's office who was banded in February and never has had a fill. You might be right about the swallowing too much air - prior to being banded i would occassinaly get the air bubble in my chest.. You didn't respond to the eating slowly - I myself find it hard to eat slowly when i am hungry.....

Lucky # Sevens- July 07 Bandsters

Lynette - it sure would have been nice if you had gotten that $$ - well maybe somethiing else will come your way . Mango - you are doing very well you are right there with me and you are a week or so behind me. Your bmi is less than mine and I think that for the ones who don't have as much to lose it comes of a tad slower -

How is weight loss for people over 50?

I journel my food in a little note book - I bought a scale that weighs my food - tells me all the important info calories - protein grams etc. and i record my exercise here to.. As far as calorie counting programs - there is Calorieking too.. You could most likely go to a best buy and find one too. For me it's easier to record my food in my note book so i don't have to get on the computer every time i eat and it's very easy to forget those bites of this or that...

    Does Sliming hurt your band?

Zuchinno - I do think you have may some restriction or you wounldn't slime - and the caught in the throat - is what is usually referred to as the golf ball in the chest - What are you eating?? do you slime / golf ball after you eat?? Are you eating fast, not taking small bite and not chewing throughly -These are usually the cause for what you are explaining. you need to eating slowly and taking small bites and chew 30 times. I would call your doc on Monday if these aren't the causes.. Hope this helps !!!

    Random Questions...

Ya, well i'm older than you so I don't know what my face is going to look like un-puffed. - but i tell you a face lift will be my 1st surgery - tummy if need be will be the 2nd as that can be hidden by clothes and I don't have anyone looking at me nake d:rolleyes: I have always thought that (don't realize we are thin)- and it occured to me when I saw an ex-boyfriend after i had gained weight and he said "what did you do to that beautiful body" and i thought to myself - what body - you see when I was thin i didn't really realize it that i had it going on and was thin and cute - (whole self worth issues and from being heavy as a child) ... My personal insight..

    Random Questions...

Well gf we don't have to see you naked - clothes on would be just fine - they hide all that saggy skin. but it would be nice to see a before & after - as you know those pics carry alot of weight (no pun intended:o) They are always a great motivater... But i undertand the whole skinny person in the mirror but the fat chick in the head issues. imho i think that's one of the reasons we eventually gain our weight back itis cuz we don't realize that we are skinny - cuz our head tells us we are fat..-
  25. Docsdeb - I take it that since you are going to Mexico - you don't have to have a shrink exam - I am concerned that you might not be a canadintie (sp) for WSL I don't mean to be mean in saying this - but you sound like you have some worry / panic issues - or are these just pre-surgery jitters??? I love my Band !!!! and would do it again in a heart beat - cuz I want to keep my heart beating and being fat it wasn't.. Good Luck - and again I don't mean to offend ...
