Beth I am sorry that you haven't lost in 2 weeks. So let's get down to WHY.. Are you eating enough or are you eating too much?? Are you making healthly good food choices or are you letting those bad habits slip back in just a little at a time? Are you getting in all your protein? Do you log your food - I find this the most helpful thing for me.. Because its so easy to forget - the yogurt in the a.m. - the hand full of nuts in the after noon the 3 bites of something while you are cooking dinner. If you log and count calories then you might see what going on . Are you getting your exercise in - and drinking your water. Are you under some stress where you might be popping a few M&M at the office every day?? What's going on... What's the answers to these questions... Do you have any restriction?? When do you go for a fill. I got my 1st fill on 9/5 and had restriction for about a week - but it's gone - i really watch what i eat but I do manage to get in 1000 - 1200 calories a day (my night time eating ugh hate it but can't stop it - have reduced it so maybe one day I will be able to stop it..) Tell us what's up ... What's really up !!!! We are here for you always:girl_hug:

Beth Peaches lost like 40 lbs prior to being banded - so the 60 some odd pounds on her ticker aren't from being banded - she is combining her total weight loss. Ya I went wow when I first saw that but the she explained,..
  3. Vancovergirl - Smart???? - You = Pot calling the Kettle Black.... No one beat her up - The tone of your post is offensive to me and i think the 8 pages consisted of other conversations too - not just to the op. Docsdeb Thanks for the kind words Congrats on the 7lbs :clap2: Good Luck on your surgery - I will say a prayer - The first few days do hurt (some people say it doesn't but it did for me) your port site will hurt the most & for the longest - about 1 1/2 - 2 week - not bad but you will know it's there (if i remember correctly - just like having a baby - the memory of the pain does fade). I never took any pain meds after 7/18. I was back to work on day 6 (but I do have a desk Job). Keep up posted... xoxox Janet

Almost 5 months post-op, same weight & UPSET!

Julie Frist I am sorry for your flipped port and glad that your doctor repaird for free and sorry you don't have restriction. But am going to give you words of widsom - not comfort and I don't mean to offend or piss you off, but i think you need a little wake up call. You are not going to lose weight without #1 good food choices (hamburgers, pizzas, pasta etc are not good choices) #2 Excercise The band only controls your portions not what you are putting in your mouth - I understand that you don't have restriction but you gotta make better food choices - that up to you not the band and you do need to exercise too. Imho i think that going to ww in conjunction with the band is an excellent idea - WW you learn to eat healthly and the band helps with portion control - That is what i am doing - I don't go to actual WW meeting but I eat like i did when I was on WW, log my food and count calories & Protein - that in combination with my band is why I am losing - along with going to the gym 5 days a week. I feel that i am doing most of the work here as i do get hungry - i do want chips - tacos - fired foods period - but i don't eat then and if i don't get full on my dinner - i add more veggies to my plate - not the rice (which is what i want) Your doc doesn't numb you up before he fills you?? IMHO that's plain stupid - It took my doc forever to find the fill spot in my port - but he had numbed me up so - he could poke all he wanted to... You state you haven't eaten all day - you got eat healthy to lose. My doc makes to go on full liquids for the 1st week of a fill then 1 week mushie - 1 week soft - 4th regular food. Going on Soups for a week helped me - i had restiction that first week - but have loosed up quite a bit - When you go back to your doc - TELL him to numb you up 1st then meet with his dietician and get some help with what you should be doing to lose the weight - you paid for the help of the band now ask for it from your doctor - he took your $$$ Goodl Luck...

Ruby -Forgve70 & Marcy Regarding the no losing while exercising - I noticed this back when I was doing WW at the office - we would walk during lunch 4 times a week then the next week we wouldn't walk - you know which week i would see the scale move - on the week we didn't walk.. Dont ask me to explalin it - but i remember it like yesterday.. I won't allow myself to not exercise for a week now a days cuz i will get out of the habit and that will ruin it all. I take Thrus & Sundays off - but the rest of the week i go.. Are you guys logging your food? I fine that this helps me - i track food calories and protein. I have been doing this since the day i got home from the hospital at first i only count protein but then added calories when I was able to eat more. This has always been another great tool for me when trying to lose weight - it's so easy to forget a bite of this or a bite of that - and they all add up.. My fill was 9/5 - 1.75 cc in the new band and that 1st week had great restriction and wasn't even hungry the 1st few days. But now - i can get hungry and eat more than right after the fill - but i know i still have some restriction cuz i have pb the other night eating to fast. It was a good thing cuz i was eating in the middle of the night rice & beef (i can eat rice w/no problems when i eat slow) After reading that thread that i told you to ck out - is what made me want to tell you all how great our group is.. I don't know why people can't have an honest exchange of ideas without getting nasty. I love to debate - i think it's fun sometimes - I was so good at in high school that i could turn the whole class into my way of thinking Marcy - the bread sound good - but i just can't have that stuff in the house - I just don't have that kind of will power and right now for me it's all about getting this weight off (not the big problem) and then maintaining that weight loss (this will be the big problem:eek:) Like so many here i have lost it before and kept if off for a yr or 2 but slowly it comes back + some.
  7. Krinannie Loved the 80 vs 8 grms - Yes us chubby chick have alot in common and I appreciate the honest exchange of ideas too without getting nasty like some do.. I am so very sorry about that poster who took her life and that of her child. I have been touched by suicide and it is such a difficult thing to experience. What an awful thing to happen - said a little prayer for her & her family Good Luck on your journey - I think it's well worth it and even me has that little hope in the corner of my mind that it will be easier this time (and so far it has, as the band does make you feel full faster - but i can be full and still want to eat - so many head hunger issues to deal with and i am exercising 5 days a week and making correct food choices 99% of the time) and pray that I will be able to keep it off (this time) Again my best to you... Janet
  8. I did miss this! Thanks for pointing it out -and weaklings might not have been the best word to use, but to my perception it's saying "not everyone is ready to do the head work that the band requires" and it has nothing to do with being twiggy. I just read here yesterday were someone did flunk their psych exam and has to go back in 60 days. I think we can both agree - you read into it what you like and I read into it what i like - I have spoken with the op and it was never intended to inflame anyone into this major debate - it was all about accepting responsiblity for your actions - and not blaming the band for not losing weight.. And I personally think that's a sign of someone who is on the right tract... To. many people today want to blame others for their problems, I think accepting responsiblity for your actions is a very mature and healthy mindset. I personally accept that I am FAT - it's no ones fault but mine - I accept that right now i am highly motivated am at the present winning the battle. I accept that tommorrow i could have a weak moment and fall off this band wagon . I hope not to and will do what i can not to but could happen and if it does - it will all be on me and not the band.

How is weight loss for people over 50?

I was only teasing about your dh - Can't wait to meet.. You have more will power than me if you pull off the good stuff - I would have to just order grilled - i am starving right now.. 120 isn't that bad in the a/c house or office and thats where you stay during the summer :phanvan
  11. Docsdeb For us here who had insurance cover our surgeries - we had to see shrinks (well most of us I think) and yes you did sound quite panic and very unsure. I never thought you wanted pitty and I am well known for giving tough band love - but the key word is love. I am glad that you are going to be banded - it's work but you are well worth the work and since you work in the medical field you can see all the damage done from being overweight - I hate to read that you won't be visitng here often - I find it a great support group - (go to support group thread and read the post from others who will be banded this month) also - once you are banded you can help others who get/are "panic" prior to surgery.. Good Luck and I will keep you in my prayer on 9/28...

    Don't look at me!!!!

I was/am an attention hog period fat or thin. If i bought a new outfit that i thought i was cute in - I would strut my stuff - and am doing it now when I am able to come to work in something that hasn't fit in 4 yrs and when i get to goal - hell ya - i will be struting.... If you don't love yourself - no one else will. I love the complements and when someone doesn't say - OMG you are looking great - it sort of hurts my feeling - I like the props that i am getting - infact one girl came up to me today and gave me a hug and told me i was looking good and she was proud of me (My office is one big family) - i a very outgoing person thin or fat. I have a strong sense of who i am ... But I do have age on my side and have used those years well (learning) to be a grown up (well most of the time) As to staying in a relationship - because it's safe - fat or thin is not a healtly thing period - and that's just not a fat issue - i know women who are thin and stay - You and only you gotta do what's best for you.

A place for bandsters in their 60's

Claramae I make eggbeater omeletts on the weekend - southwestern kind with a little cheese & shaved ham (lunch meat) I am a BIG catfish lover - well mostl fish really - but like you i like it fried - I have taken talipa - or sole and dipped in eatbeater then in corn meal (seasoned of course) and then sprayed w/pam and baked in the oven - you can do it w/catfish too - i baked my catfish (i eat this about 4-5 times a week) with El Pato sauce (yellow can w/a duckon it - it's mex tomato sauce a little on the spicy side) it was great.. I was instructed to go from mushies to soft - which to me is about the same - cuz i cook my veggies to death anyway and chicken & beef depending how you cook them are soft - small bites chew well. I really don't remember what was considered hard -

Ssankofa - Thanks- I just know how to talk a good game - wish i could alway do as i preach - but am good for the most part - got on the scale twice - 216 1st time and 217 the 2nd time - I am taking the 2nd time since i lost 3.5 last week - so that makes me 33 lbs lighter.. Getting there slowly but surely - i am that little train that could. Last nite i had a 3 oz fish w/el pato (mex hot sauce) and then ate a burritto (impluse eating cuz i should have only eaten half) - beef cheese tortilla - 300 calories and then 2 pudding during the night - so did ok for last night didn't over eat too much -my total calories for the day was like 1010... and walked 2 miles - Good think to know - Did you have a good time in South Africa - I heard it was beautiful...

  20. Krinannie - IMHO i don't think anyone was trying to beat anyone up here on being less successfull - the original poster was stating a fact that was given to all of us from day one - IMHO i know that we all Know that the band isn't the magic answer to our food issue but I think somewhere in the back of some peoples mind that they think it is and then are dissappointed when the weight doesn't fall off. We are all individuals here and our weight loss journey will be as individual as each of us are travel this path - it will be fast for some - slow for some - and the truth be told some here will fail and I could be one - she could be one - but she is stating "don't blame the band" the band is nothing more than a tool- The assistance to the reader is that they should not think that this the Band is the only key to losing weight - it's your brain and what you choose to do. This imho this is tough band love - and i truly understand where she is comming from - But again this is my perception and we all read things differently. You have been given the tool to help now you gotta do the work to make it work... It doesn't work all by it's self.. Repectfully

Ssankofa - I leave those cute 4 inch heels to you young ones - when i was your age i wore then be not anymore - I do have 1 pair thickest heel about 3 may be 4 inch whe a nice padding - but now adays limit my self to 2-3 inch heals - maybe when the weight is gone i will try again Exercise for the week 9/13 to 9/19 11 miles and 15 min on weights Tomorrow is my weigh in day - wish me luck :car:
  23. Passive I am there with you on not liking the protein drinks - I don't like sweets 24/7 - Medi Fast makes a banana cream shake - that i like and they also make some cream soups that aren't bad either. With the shake it has 11 grams of pt and i add a litte real banana and ice - i make all my shakes in a blender magic bullet - and the receipe i gave you earlier was good - i put the unjury unflavored protein powder in my cofffe (ya gotta let it cool some or it will currdle) and 1 scoop is 20 grm - so if you do that you have 3 cup of coffee (i only have 1) you have your 60 grms and then can eat what you want (well you know what i mean = healthy low fat low sugar) I think if you add some protein - you just might get a boost...
