How is weight loss for people over 50?
IndioGirl55 replied to debi717's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Yes I agree she ican be annoying and I agree with the politicis - I think it's cuz they are the same race and it should be about the best person - but she may beleive that - who know - - I am sick of all the presidential stuff so far in advance - just like xmas - thing just start too early for me My producer (boss) is mr republican he votes party not person and I am sick of his hilary jokes - not that she is my person either - I don't know who in the H*ll i am going to vote for... i will vote for the person who i think is best for the job overall - this is what the USA is all about you vote for who you want - i vote for who i want - I respect each persons views and believe we are all intittled to our own views - doesnt make you good or bad in my eyes - say you like Mr. NY - say I like McClain - this is our right. But right now i just don't have any opionoon cuz i am not following them - all you get is bits of this or bits of that when you listen to the news and then it's bias on who that station wants.... I really dont know where you get un-bias info at.. and heck the president really has only 3 powers - it's congress who we should be the most concerned about.. -

NMSunshine - I am suppose to be on liquids for 1 week per my doc after a fill then mushie then soft dont get back to regular until week 4 - but being the person I am I do liquids for about 4-5 days then go to mushie/soft - most of my eating is soft.. Dangers of being to tight erosion is what I have read and maybe even slips and irritation - do u have heartburn - thats not a good sign and you should stay on liquids... Sounds like you are doing better and your doc office sounds great.. Phyl isn't it funny that we want to pb or slime - i guess we just want to feel what everyone is talking about - I have done both - no great but not that bad - I have only slimed once or twice - pb a few times and like Macry posted you will stay away from food for a bit after you have done it.. When I eat too fast that will do it every time - even with pudding.. -

NMSunshine I record Oprah daily.. I don't know for a fact if she is down on WLS but to me she puts that kind of spin on it - just like that show - transfer addiction - did she ask the people who were on the week before who have lost like 500 without surgery if they now have transfer addiction now she praised their weight loss... It's just seems like she has a bad attidutuet to wls to me ... -
Congrats !!!!! Great Nsv !!!

Thunderwheels - Congrats and welcome to band land - each day you will feel better - i was back to work (deskjob) by day 6 and I have a few years on you...The tool (band) does work as long as you make healthy food choices and exercise (imho this is key)... This is a GREAT site for support... -
I use the unflavor unjury in my morning coffee (cooled a bit) and I use sf creamer too - I use in my yogurt/fruit smothies - I have used it in my soups and think it would be good mixed with a crystal lite but I have never used it in just water or tea - it has a taste which i don't think I would like in water or tea..

Denise - I am glad that I can eat - what I consider a Normal about of food and still lose weight- I don't know how I would do if I had to eat less - NMSunshine - Yes I saw it the 1st time it was on - Oprah pisses me off some times - she seems to puts down people who have WLS - it's not just people who have WLS that can have transfer addicitions - people who lose weight without surgery can have the same issues too. Look at her she looses weight - gains weight back loose it again - want to talk about yo-yo - and she has the benefit of personal trainers and chefs where we don't - OMG if i could have someone else cook all my meals and a trainer to help me exercise - I would be in hog heaven. Notice how she talks about WLS she is negative about it - IMHO she needs to be banded Phyl - you DH is a very nice man I though his controlling was done with luv:) - I think you have a keeper in him... Have you called Dr B - I am scheduled to go in on the 19th but don't know if i need to - I have pretty good restiction when I eat really solid foods - soft go through but the solids keep me full for quite a long time and sometime if I drink to fast is sticks a little - Call him it can't hurt... -
Kristin - Nope I had it for Breakfast the other day - I make it creamy ..

Good Morning Gang Just got back from gym - 3 miles ... Last nite when to dinner & show with a friend - so was mia... Busy at work cuz we have a lot of renewals on 1/1.. Hi Brandy - The computer is just like everything else - so much good and so much bad... Have you read this thread http://www.lapbandtalk.com/f17/were-you-sure-wouldnt-work-46513/index4.html As you will read in my post I still afraid that the weight will come back - it's not losing it but keeping it off - Read this thread - it's good.. Peaches - sounds like you go to sleep and don't get up again until morning - you are lucky - i wake up in the middle of the night to eat - last nite had a few cashews & little o.j. - I totally understand the night time food challenge - how about trying 100 c snack popcorn instead of trail mix - lower fat - lower calories and you get the salty crunch... Jackie - this is me to a T - omg love it... Dashing to the pantry in the middle of the night.... that's me !!! Kitajih - Sorry about the scale not moving - where are you tracking your calories?? are you 100% sure that you are going about 1000 a day.. You may want to switch it up -one day 1000 - next 1200 so on a so forth - How many miles are you riding daily and at what level?? Where do I want to go - I LOVE the islands - St Johns Turtle Bay or Barbados or St Martean or you could go visit Dini in Ireland... how lucky to have a daughter as a travel agent. You are very lucky,, Linda - OMG it will be nice to have your family home - but i understand the stress of all those extra people - My sis was here for 4 days and I loved the visit - but was glad when they went home - I could get back to my routine.. OK if I remember correctly (which as you know being over 50 the brain is the 1st thing to go) you have choosen not to exercising during the winter cuz it's so cold outside. I am not being mean here but if you eat those extras - you have to pay with increasing your execise.. You will be moving more with all that family at home - do you have any indoor tracks or the mall in which you can go walk - or even just walk in front of the t.v. while you are watching it in the evening,... I would assume that your family knows that you have been banded - maybe they will help you - just knowing that they will be noticing what you eat will be enough to keep you from popping those extra bites in your mouth.. I am feeling bad and don't want you to stop posting or comming here and I feel that maybe sometimes I am too ridged - but like Salsa - I am afaird that if I start eating too much - I will not stop (goes back to the thread I posted above "will this work") - yes the band will stop you to a degree (how is your fill level - do you have good restriction??) Maybe you might want to schedule one - that's why we were banded in the 1st place - so use the tool to help you not to over indulge... If you have a drink you can't eat that cookie - and if you eat that cookie - then you can't have that drink - That's how i am dealing with the holidays... it's all about trade offs.... Ok Gang - I dream about our Lucky #7 board - this morning I dreamt (is that a word) that Salsa who is a Crazy 8 but post here with us most of the time - posted that she loved our Lucky #7 so much that she wasn't going to be a Crazy 8 any more but only a Lucky #7 - How crazy am I:eek: That my dreams are about this board.. OK I will get off my soap box this morning - but I just want you all to know that I want us all to be successfull in this journey - I am not trying to be mean or judgemental - just trying to give a little help with tons of love - so please don't hate me or stop coming here and posting - but I know about all the little lies we tell ourselves - I know how hard it is to break our bad habits - I know how fearful it is to stop eating our comfort foods is - I know that we have to deal with feelings (just the simple feeling of being bored and for some others) that we use to cover up with food. I just want to give those who may have fallen off the band-wagon a hand - to help pull them back up on the wagon... xoxoxo Janet

Slackaction Breakfast can be any of the following Weight Control Oatmeal - yogurt with 1/4 c granola - 1/4 egg beaters with a little cheese & ham - Usually yogurt at my desk or oatmeal.. Lunch Left overs usually from dinner- turkey chili - taco (about every other week) - soups - small can tuna & veggies - salad - I use reg dressing (ranch) dip my fork in it then salad. or i have made my own using ranch dressing dry mix with lite mayo & low fat buttermilk - we did this when we were doing WW and the calories are low. I like salads but hate making them - i can eat them... I can eat mostly anything as long as i go slow - eating too fast gets me all the time... I have had ham sandwich or grilled cheese for lunch too.. Dinner 99% of the time this is what i eat - baked fish 4 or 5 oz - 1/2 c rice (white or brown) - 3/4 c veggies usually zuchinnee - yellow crooked neck squash or spinach - brussel sprouts - carrots some times. then sometimes i make one pot wonders (this is where i just throw things together that i have in the fridge) - ground turkey meat (white) or pork chop with 1 small red potato or rice and cabbage or any veggie, oniion bell pepper soy sauce. Turkey meat load made with white ground turkey. Snack at night (i am a midnite muncher) sf choc pudding and healthy choice fudgecicles SF I exercise usually 5 days a week - walk 2 to 3 miles on the treadmill at the gym and sometimes i do weights - but truely just the treadmill. -

Slackaction I count everything that passes my lips - tea would be zero for me as I use splenda - but milk yes - coffee plain is zero too. I don't cut all carbs but limit the white ones - 1/2 cup serving for dinner only rice pasta potato bread -
Tonya - 12/7/12 - That number looks so far away - but I know it's around the corner - OMG - I will be 57 yrs old going on 58

I have BC Ca - and i was required to go to a center of excellence - it was in the wording for bariatic surgery to be covered.. You gotta ck w/your carrier to see what they require - I didn't have to do any supervised diet - I just gave my surgeon had my history of diets.. I can tell you from what I have read on these boards - Every carrier is different just like every surgeon is diff - ck w/your carrier and see what they require.. Good Luck

I agree with WASABB - Kacee - I don't have to be accountable to anyone other than myself (well besides God but that's a whole nother issue ) Outside pressure isn't what some people need - I am a rebel and if you tell me not to eat a cookie - well - I will just to spite you - I think this is the reason I am fat to begin with - my Mom was always trying to control my food - so I would steal it and eat without her knowing.. IMHO i think some people are very public - some very private and like me a little of both.. I did this for me and no one else.. I am glad that telling worked for you - but what works for you doesn't always work for someone else and calling it a COP OUT for others isn't reality... Do you really truely think that in the long run - 5 yrs from now telling is going to keep you from going back to your old habits.. If that were true you never would have been fat to begin with - if accountablity is what keeps you honesty today - the band is a lot more drastic than WW for example but it's all the same - lifetime lifestyle change - time will be the only real truth in this subject... Lets all ck back in 5 yrs and see where we are at then - who has maintained and who has put it back on For me - it's one day at a time...

Jackie:clap2::clap2: for getting your exercise in - As for feeling Christmasy - I have found as I get older I don't feel the excitment that I use to - it has become such a chore. I think it's cuz they bring out all the xmas stuff right after Halloween and all the commercials - they stuff this crap down our throats.. Back in the old days it was diff - It's like is last just too long - maybe thats it. Ruby - I think is a great way to handle our pity parties - cuz we all have them - we all get sad and depressed - this is normal - sometimes life can just weigh us down.. Salsa - I understand 1 cookie is too much 20 not enough - Glad the scales moved:) - I can understand not wanting a job that had so many hours - I could have had my own insurance agency - but i didn't want the headach - its some much easier working for someone else... Kristin - My 1st fill felt it right away - the 2nd fill didn't feel it for a couple of days - what i have come to realize (from reading on this site)- the band is a fickled thing some days tight some days tight - it has it's own mind Well Gang - TGIF !!!! We are suppose to have rain & wind today - I will take the rain as we need it here in the desert - but dislike the wind. Gotta finish my Xmas shopping this weekend - just a few things to get... Well not much to report this morning - I gotta get to work - ck with you all later..
-
Manatee - Me too - as we all know, bypass & bander do gain their weight back if they go back to their old eating habits - this (the band) is not a guarentee... We do know that with property restriction it will help with portion control - time will tell... I pray that I will stay focused and truely learn this time around that this is a lifetime lifestyle change...
-
Thanks Peaches - This board is my salvation... It is my distraction when I want to eat .... We are all in the same boat - some days i'm strong and you lean on me - then there are the days where i am weak and need to lean on you., This is the BEST SUPPORT GROUP IN THE WORLD..... Good day - Good food choice 1200.... :clap2::clap2:

Justin If you haven't ever tried to change you eating habits before then I would suggest that route first - IMHO the lap band is like a last resort when all other methods have failed. It's not the magic cure to our food issues - and i just am getting a vibe that you aren't ready. I wasn't scare beyond words but I am twice your age.. You are still young and maybe 304 and 6'1 you feel good - but the damage you are doing to your body is bad... You are overweight and need to get ahold of that problem now - not in 30 yrs like a lot of us here.. We didn't have the benefit of this surgery when we were your age - all we had were diet pills and found they don't work in the long run... My best to you on this journey - read all you can and ask tons of questions - It will all work out as it should in the end....

Sunshine Thanks - I am working very hard - I eat healthy 98% of the time and i exercise 4 to 5 days a week.. As i stated in the beginning of this thread my concern will be keeping the weight off - I think we all can lose the weight but it's the keeping it off that will be the real answer... the 1st time I joined WW i was 206 and at that time it was my heavest - I got down to 165 for just a minute with the help of diet pills - gain it all back over 2 yrs and then some - Parents died in 92 got up to 230 - did medifast - got to 195 or so - get more diet pills lose a little - but always gained it back. I think I have it that this is truely a lifetime lifestyle change - and the tool is great for me - cuz it helps control my portions cuz I wasn't a junk food eater or sweets all the time - i just ate too much of good foods and never exercised... I remember once I started dance classes and lost 20 lbs without changing what i ate - so I know for me exercise is a big help along with the portion control... I'm sorry for your hardships - I understand those and what they can do to you.. It's good to hear that even with slips the band keeps you from rolling all the way to the bottom of the hill

Lap-band vs. Bypass? HELP!
IndioGirl55 replied to Hemidrone's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hemi - We are a great group if I do say so myself - I found this site right before my 1st visit with the lap-band Doc 5/07 and haven't left since. I was on another board but like this one so much better and was invited to another once i was here - tried it but this is the greatest group - My suggestion is to read all that you can - ask questions and you will figure it out... -
Justin - Have you ck'd back and seen everyones replies???

Welcome to bandland Tony (??) ant stands for tony??? It gets better as each day goes by I was banded on a Tuesday and by Thrus felt ok - better on Friday and was back to work on Monday (desk job) your port site hurts the longest - about 2 weeks What's your doc's food plan, I had 10 days full liquids but included creamed Soups and I made soupy mash potatoes and that helped - I was hungry day 3 or 4... but got full on a small amount of food...
-
My Sis lives in Ceres - about 100 miles from you... My second fill took a day or 2 to get tight - I am suppose to be on full liquids for 1 week then 1 week mushie then 1 week soft - but i usually do abour 4 days liquid and then very soft - but i eat very soft food 99% of the time.. Hope you got to your sweet spot...
