Salsa I think it is so funny how we all have something in common besides the band The bold in your statement above is Me 100% Distant was the big factor in going w/Dr Bobbie - I hate going to doc anyway - and if I had to take a day off of work just to go I wouldn't..... Phyl - Since I have the honor of meeting you in person - I bet you would be a good speaker - and your DH doesn't need to lose weight - he looks just fine - but you know how it is with us fluffy people - some one who needs to lose only 10 or 15 lbs is skinny to us - come back and see us when you have 100 to loose - then we will think - ya you need to loose:) Dentist went fine - I am going to loose a tooth - that anchors my bridge right now - but still have my rear molar for him to build a new one - the tooth should come out find since it's loose already - It's find now no pain - it already had a root canal but was infected around the root - i just can't chew on that side of my mouth and that's the side that i always eat with... - I go back 1/3 to get the tooth pulled and temp bridge and then the rest of my teeth xrayed etc.. I haven't been to him in about 3 yrs... I think it's when he put the bridge in ... I will send you his info CONGRATS ON 5.4 LBS - THAT JUST SO GREAT :clap2::clap2::clap2: Kristin - I normally pop in an out while at work - but as you see I was at dentist & then ended up at the vets. Were all the other are - I guess they don't love us any more - I know Lynette's Dad is sick = so she is most likely really busy - but Chim & Dini who were the leaders of the Lucky #7 to begin with along with Breadlady have vanished.. Come back ladies - don't just lurk - say hi - what's up.. Peaches - Thanks - They would not refill the script without a blood test (meds hard on the liver or kidneys) and had to see the dr. So had to get off work at 3:15 - they took his blood (which i knew would be find cuz the last time i got the meds filled was a year ago - so he has taken only 30 in the last yr - not every day - it's all about the $$$ pisses me off) - we sat there for over 1 hr - finally my Grandson when up and asked what's up - they say the result were being printed - next thing they just brought me his pill and the bill - OMG Lil Bears meds were $45 1 yr ago - guess what they are now $75 frigging dollars... I am going to ck pet meds - his meds are like viox (you all know i can't spell or type worth a sh*t but you know what i mean) We didn't even see the doc $176 .. So after here I am cking pet meds to see if i can get it any lower - I guess i need doggie insurance for presciption:embarassed: He does seem to be doing alot better - and that's the most important thing I am going to try and just give him a pill every 3 days and see how that works.. - but what do people do who can't afford that i guess it's no diff than not being able to afford your own meds.... Well gang - didn't exercise again today  after being at the vets all afternoon and cuz they had the grand opening of the fresh & quick corner makert today - I live in a new area of North Indio "Shadow Hills" and there is no retail on this side of town - I have to go all the way on the other side of town to get milk (you who live in big cities won't understand - but this use to be a small town - now it takes 15 min just to go across town - where it use to take 5 mins) So I went and ck'd it out - it's suppose to be like a trader joes (never shopped there myself) but it does have a few organic items - pre-made meals - meat looked good - I bought some fish - but here is the BIG PROBLEM - they have tons of sweets - individual pieces of cake, cookie, cheese cake etc - I can walk to this place it is on the corner infront of my development - In those weak states of mind - I could be in BIG TROUBLE... - I did buy some oatmeal raisan cookie - 3 for 130 calories - we will see how they taste and if i can stop at 3 - they may end up the in trash... We are suppose to get a supertarget by next october and the home depot and walgreens are almost done. We are getting tons of stuff out here which will be good cuz what I save on gas I will be spending at target - I may have to get a 2nd job Well - all that has been going on - I have not eaten all day except for a yogurt this morning - was getting hungry around 11 - but then gooing to the dentist killed that so i guess the dentist is good for the waist line:) I am not even hungry really - but know it will hit me when I go to bed - so I better go fix me something to eat.. Well that's my day gang - not much else to report on - will ck back in a bit xoxo Janet

Peaches - Love the new Picture !!!! Brandy- You are doing great Phyl- Let us know how your TOP meeting went since you are running the meeting this week Ruby - It's a good thing not to get on the scales every day (imho) Well, gang I was beat yesterday when I got off work - So I flaked on the gym and plus my lil bear (fur baby) is a little sick - he has bad hips - (puppy mills :angry long story but he's only 3 yrs old little blue black pomeraian) I gotta go get his meds refilled - since we got Angel (toy white poodle) he has been doing alot better - the vet said it's his tertesteron (sp) you know that guy thang = but I think the cold is getting to him - I am so afraid of the day that we have to put him down - hopefully once he gets back on his meds he will improve. Doing good with food - I really think I am at my sweet spot - suppose to go back to dr b on the 19th but really don't think i need anymore in my band - I do eat more than 1/2 c per meal - more like 1 1/2 per meal - but I think thats a good amount and so far the weight is coming off. I am going to the dentist today haven't been in a couple of yrs and my bridge is loose.. I love my dentist - won't to to anyone else and have to pay more $$$ as he isn't an approved dentist - but he is well worth the extra $$$ - he give me GAS .. Love all the women there too. But I just hate the dentist period... Well, I gotta get to work - will ck in later - have a good day.... xoxox Janet

How is weight loss for people over 50?

Michelle - I understand/relate to this 100% - on a Friday & or/Sat nite after a long stressful week - there was nothing better than sitting down to tamale pie and pigging out - or making brownies and eating them - heck once i just made the batter and ate it without cooking it - just thinking about it makes my mouth water.... Yes - high carbs and fat - I love butter so much I think I am Paula Dean's daughter:p. Well, it's time to go home to my fish, veggies & 1/2 cup rice - talk to you all later - I am pooped today don't know if I will go to the gym or not - will see. xoxox Janet
  5. I asked this question of Dr Watkins on another theard about the New Band = Here is his reply: Most American doctors do secure the stomach over the top of the band to prevent slips. I've heard of surgeons not doing this but only in other countries, outside the U.S. I see you are from the UK so it's a different standard than here is the USA<!-- google_ad_section_end -->

    confession!

Kayla - I chewed food and spit it out - so I have you beat at being Pathetic - but so do awhole bunch of us on here - most of us have don't something like this - don't feel like the lone ranger - 4 weeks clear OMG - I love my doc - 10 days liquids which included creamed soups... then 10 days mushie then 10 soft then reg.. I would ck and see if you can move to creamy soups - Good Luck..

"There are no secrets to success. Don't waste time looking for them. Success is the result of perfection, hard work, learning from failure...and persistence." Colin Powell I just copied this from Dr. Watkins signature (he's on theard about new band - which we all have) I just thought it was a great saying and wanted to share !!!!

How is weight loss for people over 50?

Hi Linda - #1 this is head hunger and we all suffer from it #2 I have always eaten until I feel full and at 2 months it was more than 1/2 cup of food - I eat between 1 - 2 cups of food per meal - and if it's soft stuff it goes right through and I am hungry within and hour so I eat more veggies - I'm a WW girl as I think their eating plan is the most balanced. The band is the tool to help you control your protions and i bet even 2 cups was a lot less per meal than what you ate before - How many calories are you consuming daily - must not be much with only 1 1/2 cups food daily - I have cup oatmeal a.m 1 3/4 soup lunch (today really stuffed) dinner 4 oz fish 1/2 c rice and 1/2 cup veggies and about 200 for snacks this evening... You are doing great - Welcome

Beth - Merry Christmas to you too.. Here is one suggestion - if you are going to drink (alcohal) limit your eating and if you don't drink that you can allow your self a treat and if you just have to do both - then you have to increase your exercise for the week to compensate for those extra calories and eat on the low side for the rest of the week - TRADE OFFS... As to pbing - you just have to remember to take tiny bites and remember you are banded - I forget all the time - not that I always pb but I go get the golf ball in the chest. Enjoy yourself - just don't let it get out of control - don't stand by the tables loaded with food - get a little plate - sample a few things and move away. Drink your water it flushes fat from your body. You are doing good on the protein first issue - just take smaller bite or get with someone who talks alot - so they are talking while you are eating and you can just nod your head:p This is only once a year and if you do the trade offs it shouldn't affect you too bad Good Luck - Janet

It was a little cloudy when I came to work @ 7:15 this morning - didn't need my sunglasses - but yes now (8:30) seeing a little sun. I love the weather this week cuz it's cold (to me:)) and i get to wear sweathers and jackets. Homeless til noon - does your exercise last that long - can you at least change into some clothes:eek: - We don't have any wind - but DHS is always a little windy when we are calm and when we are windy DHS isn't :biggrin1:. Isn't it funny that if the food isn't in our direct eyesight we can avoid it - but if it's in our face - OMG we pick - That's one reason if i do have left overs I try and put them up right away - cuz if I leave them on the stove - i will pick til there are gone:wacko:

    banded and no restrictions

Fitday.com is an online free calorie counter system - you long your food intake and it give you the calories - Or there is the calorieking - my doc gave me a book of theirs that has calorie for all kinds of food. for me keeping a food diary counting calories & Protein keeps me honest As fat people we never gave a hoot how many calories were in a big mac or a piece of KFC - we ate whatever we dang well please and as much as we wanted - that's how come we are/were fat to begin with. I keep my calories at anywhere between 1000 to 1200 daily - that's just a big mac an fries in the old days - now that covers 3 meals and Snacks... Barb - 2 weeks and on regular food already (salad?) I was on mushie on day 11 for 10 days then soft for 10 and reg 10. When you are on the mushies/soft they do seem to go thru faster than regular food - but a cup and half a food isn't that bad - If the calorie are under 900 is working for you - go for it - but for me i keep them 1000 to 1200 and burn minimun 350 5 days a week - I do't think you are eating to much - last night had baked fish 4 oz 118 calories - 1/2 c rice 120 c and spinach 25 c and was stuffed... I am do have a full tummy after I have eaten my meals - but sometimes I still want to eat - head hunger

Phyl - You aren't going to lose control - and if you did the band should stop you on regular food not so much the sweets but ham tatoes etc. Giving the lesson - that's great !!!

Jackie - Soup sounds good - with the cold weather we are having - I make more soups... Will give this one a try.. Peaches - We have tons of junk in the lunch room form all our insurance companies - harry & david - mrs. fields etc - thankfully i am in another wings of the office so I am not exposed to it - except when I go to the lunch room to eat lunch - but I look at the calories on whatever is there and it say 2 cookies 190 - I say forget it I don't want it that bad and it seems that its not as tasty as i remember - yesterday had soup for lunch and 1 cracker with the smoked salmon - and a gf mom made homemade cookie - they were outside her desk - I told her i have to walk by 4 times - so please put them where i can't see them - she did as i was going to walk the other way back to my desk - and when I looked they weren't there - so I went by her desk and told her thanks. Homemade will get me before store bought any day. I am saving myself for when I make xmas cookies w/GDers - I will allow myself 5 or 10 haven't made up my mind yet

Salsa - Couldn't have said it any better - this says it all - IMHO i think this is why we have all at one time or another gained our weight back and them some... I truely believe its all about balance and exercise. I will eat a whole small piece of cake for a special occassion (bdays etc) but I won't bake a cake and keep it in the house - I don't have that kind of control ...

    New/Improved Band

Thanks Dr. Watkins !!!! My doc told me I had the new band (small) but since I am one who doesn't concern myself with how many cc's i get at a fill - I didn't know it held 10 cc - I do have a question - I don't know if it was this thread or another - but someone stated that their doc didn't/doesn't attach their band to the stomach or whatever it's attached too - (I am just a regular person I don't know all the medical terms as I am never going to be a doctor myself) - I thought this was very unusual.... as when my doc explained the surgery he said he attached the band - i thought this was to prevent slips.

Salsa - I understand doing a program - then stopping and can get back into the groove - WW was that way with me - we did it at work did great the 1st time then we all lost interest slowly - same thing with Jenny Craig... I know you will win this battle - Us Sisters in Blue (brother in blue like the cops) gotta be a good examples- helps to keep us honesty too,, And I am really glad to know that this is just to jump start your system - imho i think we will suceed in our battle of the buldge if we just learn to eat a well balanced food plan... 2Bskinny - Welcome - this is a great site for info and Lucky #7's is the GREATEST... 62 lbs iin 5 months is GREAT that's 12.4 each month:clap2: ( Had my colonoscopy on the 13th :biggrin1: of July. I know TMI ) I have been lucky so far as i have continuely lost each week - some weeks only 1/2 lb some 1 or 2 - Your body may be adjusting it's self - My doc did say that we will hit platuea (sp). I am afarid that my will be here soon. What are you eating - are you logging your food anywhere (fitday - sparks) or keeping a food diary and counting calories? Are you exercising? How is your restriction?? Are you getting enough protein and drinking your water. #1 reason to drink water is this is one of the ways that we flush the fat we have burn out of our system ( bet ya'll will start drinking your water now:p) This is hard, as, we have lost our best freind "food"- it is our drug of choice and it is very hard giving it up. We have to eat to live - I think it's harder for us than an alcholic - just think about an alcholic does limit their booze they quit all together - - but we have to have food to live - we can't just quit eating all together... We are all are having to deal with emotions that we use to cover up with our food - that emotion could be something as simple as boredom - or as tragic as losing a loved one or being abused. We now have to deal with those feelings and have to find ways to sooth ourselves with out food. We have to add exercise in to our daily lives which is hard since there aren't always enought hours in the days. We have to put ourselves first - which for some is very hard cuz they have always put others needs before theirs... But with the help of the band and the support from our friends (these ladies here are your friend - we all have been fat - we all know the feeling that you have we understand - go back to say page 400 and read forward what we talk about and you will understand what i am saying ) Tell us more about you and what you are doing and what you are struggling with and we will help you... Janet . Phyl - I see the numbers have moved some more :clap2::clap2: It's the water arobic (sp)

    banded and no restrictions

Susan - I think i lost 9 lbs the 1st week and have lost a little every week - some weeks just 1/2 lbs but so far have lost every week - What are you eating - are you counting calories or logging your food on fitday or sparks - sometime we under estimate the number of calories we are eating or it even could be you aren't eating enough - I started exercising after my 1st post op visit about 2 weeks after surgery (treadmill walking) I know that for me if I didn't exercise I would not be losing weight. Give me a typical days food intake.. Janet

Salsa - you are doing great on your weight loss and you were banded after me... I have to have a little carb - 1/2 c rice with dinner and had 1/2 red potatoe in my caldo res today.. If you don't want to eat snack at night don't - I don't eat snacks during the day - cuz I HAVE TO HAVE FOOD TO EAT AT NIGHT !!! Thanks - just watching them on TV is beautiful...
  19. IndioGirl55

    Please help me...

Crynside - I couldn't say it any better - I have BC CA I went directly to an approved surgeon in my book - after I called my carrier to make sure it was covered - 1st appt 5/31 - was banded on 7/17 and had tons of pre-op test cuz of my age and cuz I never go to the doc to get those nasty annual test. It's the best thing i have ever done - this site is so full of great info - keep reading and asking questions. We are here for you..

    So...what's up with SALAD?

Hey Pam.. I am ok with salads too - I really don't have any no no's - sometime salami will stick a little - but I have had toast - grilled cheese - have rice most nites - only had pasta once in a great while and haven't in a long time - you get more rice for the calories than pasta.. I have pb'd on pudding or yogurt if eating too fast - for me that's what will bring on the pb being a little piggy and eating too fast....

Mango - Yep we are just to short for our weight You will enjoy being having an empty nest - at first it's a little hard - but then you get use to it and then they will want to come home:eek: - no more quickies in the living room

    banded and no restrictions

Jamie - you are ok - My doc says that some people don't need a fill right away - that the band in place is enought restriction for them - there was a lady at one of my support groups who was banded 4 months and never had a fill - it does happen :biggrin1: Tell your doc when you go in on the 11th - you may not even need a fill - if you don't you don't have to have one... Good Luck.. Stacy - I don't know anything about the french band - most of us who were banded from July on have the New AP band and for us it's stiched to our stomach (sort of) to keep it in place. You lost alot the first week and your body is adjusting. The band does not take away all your hunger imho - it helps but so much of what we consider hunger is really head hunger. I will eat feel full but still want to eat - Make healthy food choices and exercise when you are alllowed - You will do good

How is weight loss for people over 50?

Linetta - You and I were/are lucky as we only had 7 days of pre-op diet where some have 2 full weeks or more... My diet was oatmeal, shake, and this awful tomatoe soup (that's all they had) and some good protein bars... Well I just could not do it - so I called the doc and asked if I could have a small piece of baked fish and a little salad for dinner - (i was going to do it anyway but did want their permission too) they said yes I could. Plus I had a colonoscopy 4 days before surgery so I had 2 days of that 7 that I was on clear liquids only - the day before surgery wasn't hard cuz I was nervous and for me nervse kill my appetite.. I hope that you understand that this is only a tool - you are in for a lifetime lifestyle change - 75% of the work is up to you and the band will do the other 25% - You have to change your eating from what it is now to a healthy low fat - low sugar eating plan and add exercise into your life. I am so very happy to be banded - and for an old lady :pthink i have done pretty well - but I choose to eat very healthy 98% of the time and I exercise usually 5 days a week We all think we are going to miss the foods that we ate pre-banded -but you know what - I really don't - when I do allow myself a treat - it's never as good as i remembered... And you can eat those foods every now and then - they aren't gone for life ... Good Luck !!!! You can do this .... You will feel so much better once your weight comes off you won't miss the food as much as you think
  24. IndioGirl55

Yes - I think that what we all provide to each other - the helping hand... Ya - I haven't done the xmas cookie or tamales yet - was just looking at the calendar and thinking when did DIL tell me she was off - I think it's the 22nd so that's when we will be cooking - I will allow myself treats but I will exercise to make up for the treats.. Thank you Linda !!!- Sometimes I think I come off to ridged and truely give tough LOVE in my heart - I know the struggles that we all have with our trigger foods and right now is a very different time for us - cuz in the past we would have PIGGED OUT on all the junk - but do you really miss it - when i do have a treat - it's not really as good as i remember plus then I worry about the scales not moving on my weigh in day - I have been so very lucky that even if its only 1/2 lbs the scales have kept moving downwards - this band does help so much... Last nite had munchies - had some pig skins 8= 80 calorie - I had about 4 or 5 and was full - so where before I could eat half the bag if not the whole bag I had just enought - GREAT NSV for me - the last couple of nites have only gotten up and drank some juice (lite). Sometimes for me the first few bites go down easy then like you Linda - It will hit me - even with the pig skins last nite had just a tad of slime (tmi) Well, it's Monday morning another week of work - I have a dentist appt on Wed - I love my dentist - but ..... I am afarid i am going to have to have a tooth pulled - it's already had a root canal and I think it's loose - but will put off til next yr cuz I just did flex spending account for next yr to help cover the cost- I expect when all is said and done even with insurance - tooth pulled - new bridge i will be out over $1000 Well Ladies - Have a good day - MAKE GOOD food CHOICES & GET YOUR EXERCISE IN... I will check in later - if I can - depends on my el-groovo boss...

Kristin - For me it's can be the 1st or 2nd or 3rd - but yes - it's like taking it's sweet time going down - i can't say it hurts but is a little uncomfortable - I had 1/2 cup eat beatter omlette today - and the first few bites when down slowy - and felt them - it's like your band need to warm up ...
