Great Poem Phyl Ok I was giving some newbie the following advice .... You are not going to die if you don't have cookies, candies, macdonalds in your life - you are going to die with them in your life. I am an old fat lady - I know all the excuses - and they are all b.s. We can do whatever we put our minds to.... I don't know why we talk ourselves into such nonsense - when have you every read where someone died from NOT EATING junk... On the biggest loser last night we are the most obese country.... What a shame.... Lets all super size it - lets have everything at our finger tips let's sit and play video games - you know what it takes just as long to go to the drive thru and it does to prepare a healhty meal... - heck by the time you drive to where ever wait in line drive back home 30 min is gone - you could have cook in that amount of time and eaten a healthy meal... OK I am feeling very impowered today....

mktzfla So many people want to blame the band for not losing weight - it's not the bands fault it's only a piece of plastic - too bad they can't band our brains cuz thats where the problem lies... We think we are going to just die if we can't have Cookies candies mcdonalds etc. You aren't going to die without these things in your life - you are going to live with out them - eating all that junk was just killing you - ya might have given you some emotional comfort for a moment - but then that turns to guilt - and then you just give up and keep on eating.. I didn't have any holiday treats until I baked xmas cookies w/my grandaughters - i allowed myself 5 cookies - but then i added more exercise to my schedule - I would walk an extra day - and increased my mileage - if I allow myself a treat then I add more exercise.. You will live without eating all those high fat high carb meals and once you get to the right mindset to eat healthy - thats what you will crave. I follow a WW food plan - I get my carbs, meats, veggies and yes sweets (sf pudding & fudgecicles & yogurts) I eat a well balanced menu and I love having the power over the food not the other way around. I am an old fat lady - I know all the excuses as to why we can't do this or that - ya i know it's all b.s. - we can do anything that we put our mind too. Healthy New Years.... -

For those of you who aren't losing - what is your daily menu like - are you getting in all your protien are you drinking your Water are you exercising. In order for the band to work you must make healthy food choices and add exercise to your life - This is a lifetime lifestyle change - imho 75% of the work is up to you (healthy food choices & exercise) and 25% of the work will be done by the band. It's only a tool - it won't make your food choices for you - if you are extra hunger eat extra veggies - something very low calorie and band freindly.. Good Luck -
Port pain last the longest - about 2 weeks for me - I was feeling pretty good by day 3 - was back to work on day 6 (desk job) - Take gas x-strips for the gas and walking helps - I don't remember feeling bloated afterwards - I just did a lot of walking around the house.. Peaches - do you watch biggest loser - those who thought that they wouldn't get the big number are the ones who did - you may not have gain 5 lbs... My doc wouldn't fill be on the 21st when I went - but it i think i need just a small fill - i can drink water too fast and was hungry too much for the last 2 days.. but I think some of that is from not staying busy... New Year - Holidays Over - NO MORE JUNK - eat extra veggies when you are hungry - find the lowest possible calorie for your extra food - that's what I do... Take a walk - heck if it just in front of the tv - get up and walk in place - kick your legs - I bought some weights to use while I watch t.v. - Keep up posted on your results Happy New Years to you too..

Mary - I understood that neither your nor big-d didn't have these foods - I was just giving example of how you can still enjoy foods that you like with the band while you are on the liquid phase - for me anyway i rather have homemade and not canned foods. Yes I know black eyed peas good luck for the new years - my mom was from Texas... I was just trying to give a little insite to your new band and what you can expect - Sorry if you were offended ' it wasn't my intent.

From what I have read and what my doc has told me - they don't know why some people lose hair and others don't - I have read where who people get all their protein and take botin - still loose hair. Some say it's the antheisia (sp) some say protien. But there is no real answer as to why. I had a friend who didn't have surgery but did medifast and she lost tons of hair - it usually happens 3-4 months out from surgery - but the good new is - that it does grow back.

BigD & Mellis - Welcome to band land - it's a great place - you could have taken the black eyed peas and blended them - add some of the broth back and have creamed of black eyed pea soup - (i do this with pinto Beans too).... As long as you follow your doc's orders your band should not slip... That's why it's important to follow your doc's diet while you are healing. For each person it is diff what they can and can't eat - I made white bean soup & ham after xmas - I made corn bread muffins (150 c for 1 muffin) and had the soup & muffin with no problems - I follow the WW style of eating plan - I want a well balanced menu - I could never last on atkins. I count calories & Protein grams - keep a food & exercise diary - I rarely ever fry foods - I use to fry everything - I bake - use pam or a tad of olive oil. pecan pie has like 700 calories per slice - so i would look for something with less calories for those times when you allow yourself a treat The band is only a tool - 75% of the work is up to you to make healthy food choices and add exercise into your live - the other 25% is the work of the band once you get proper restiction. But remember they banded your tummy not your head and the majority of the problems lie in your brain not tummy... You are going to have to do a lot of head work for this to be successful. Good Luck

Kara You aren't the only one who has felt this way !!!! That's why I stress it so much to the newbies - I am great at giving tough band love (operative word love) I am a fat person too and I KNOW all the excuses we give why we can't do things.. I was the queen of excuses - no longer. You can do anything that you put your mind too.... Good Luck on your journey - I really find that the band is my interior motivation.... Lifetime Lifestyle changes are also needed. Well I gotta get back to work... Janet -
Jackie - this is how I was before the band !!!! I am a tad older than you (you could be my daughter - my son is 36) I get up at 5 a.m. and go to bed - anywhere between 9:30 & 10:30 - Usually don't take naps anymore on the weekends (i use to sleep them away) Even now on the weekends i am usually up 6:30 or 7 a.m. ... My 1st question - is are you depressed??? this is one of the signs - do you have heavy periods that would make you iron defienct - are you getting your b-12??? let us know what the blood test say...

it's a decive that you wear on your arm - it measures how many calories you burn - you hook it up to your computer - input your food intake and then the machine down loads your movement for the day - it show you how many calories you burn... There is a thread on the main page for Bodybugg users - also it's what they wear on Biggest Loser... Cost about $250 - from 24 hr fitness...

Thanks Tina - Aren't we all professional dieters - but ever since i have joined this site - my over 50 gang keep pushing those words "it's only a tool" so the more I read is how I came up with that analogy... I think it's pretty good if i do say so myself - the work is up to US the band is only the tool to help not do it for us.... -

Good Morning Gang Well, I'm back at work - ready for the new year.... Phyl - your signature is there - I don't know why they dissapper then come back:faint: - I had note from rliberty saying something about something showing up in my post that was taking up half the page - but I never saw it - I did see it in someone else post - but when I went back to find it - I couldn't....Stupid computer issues :embarassed: Karri - you are doing so great.... now that you are eating more - i bet you will feel better... linda- i dislike my scale half the time - that's one reason I only weigh in once a week - I don't want to invest in a 200 doctor scale - and they are ugly too - I don't have any place in my bathroom for one. I weight naked 1st thing in the morning... Make sure you are getting all your water in - I find that helps.. Celeste- How are you doing?? Blueeyezbaby - I know what you mean about editing - I think they should fix that... Marcy - My X & BIL hunt during deer season up north - they got a little bambi a few years ago - I think they go just to act like MEN all that testarone (sp) - I have never had moose (poor bullwinkle) just bambi.. Kathy I forgot to weigh in this morning - (a little afraid to - since I haven't been getting in all my exercise) - I will do it tonite after the gym... Well, back to work - Remember gang the Holiday temptations & excuses are over - back on the bandwagon!!!!!

That was really cute Phyl - Loved It. so true I bought Dance with the Stars video yesterday and 2 5lbs weights So I did the warm up and the paso something... They don't give the worlds best instruction - but it was fun and then i did some arm exercises with the weights. I figured I could do that watching t.v. Well back to work tomorrow - and to the Dentist on Wed - to get a tooth pulled:eek: so I will be on soups for a day or 2... Well, got my bills paid - and that's about it - haven't taken down Chritmas stuff yet - maybe next weekend... Brandy - don't feel too bad 2 1/2 is better than 10 and you will be able to lose those quickly.... It's a new year - throw all the junk out.... Back to healthy eating - no more junk - cuz a bite here leads to a bite there -

Happy New Years Everyone.. My girlfriend and I had dinner - Prime Rib - watched a movie - i went back for another bite of the meat - pb'd :party: - so left it alone - watched Dick Clark and went to bed about 1 a.m. - So my evening wasn't as exciting either - but I enjoyed it... Thanks Linda - I am going to ck w/doc at my next appointment - Some times DH's just don't think:girl_hug: I bet you looked hot...... I need to take down my tree too - but who knows if it will get done.. I just might wait until my GS does it - if i wait long enought he will do it :party: Phyl - once you get that knee fixed you and get some more weight off - you aren't going to need that scooter :biggrin1: Mango - OVC I love their gold & diamondque - people don't know if it's real or not - just got some nice gold hoops and braclet new design only they will have for 1 yr - they were my xmas presents to myself... Smashbox - Phylisophy - demin & co.- doc denise.. am going to hate to see my bill next month :party:

Beth I don't wear shorts only capri's - Walmart??? J C Penny's - Avenue - Lane Bryant - they all have online stores - QVC - I am a big QVC shopper - I love demni & company and they are pretty reasonable.. Good Luck Congrats on 16W from a 26 - 10 Sizes smaller

Carol - If I stay busy I don't get hungry - but that's alway how I have been - If I am doing something - like shopping - I don't want to stop and eat. While I was on vacation a few weeks back - I was doing so much that I usually didn't eat til night time - but once I start - I have a hard time stopping. I have some restriction - imho need a little more - but mostly head hunger at night after dinner - last night had 4 oz chicken 1/2 c rice and 3/4 c veggies - was satisfied but still wanted to eat - made a snack pack 100 calorie popcorn - and ate it one piece at a time - and after that I was ok. I just find low calorie things like sf pudding & popcicles to tide me over - I budget my calories to compensate for my night time hunger... I get on the computer when I am hungry if it's not too late - you will find that your January 2008 group will keep you really busy - when we all 1st got banded in my Lucky #7 (july) omg you would have 10 pages to read every day - but as time wears on we don't have as many people cking in anymore - just a few of us.. Exercise - I started with a 20 min mile and worked my way up - my knees hurt a little to begin with but as the weight comes off - the knees aren't as bad. Well gotta go put the prime rib in the oven - I have a gf coming over to watch movies etc - we have known each other since high school - and since we are both single - we hang out a lot togethers HOPE EVERYONE HAS A HAPPY NEW YEARS -
I think i am low in something - cuz my thigh muscles hurt/ach - like i have been really working weights - I got some potassium & B complex today - and going to try and be more diligent in taking my vitamins (I am pretty bad at it) I have to get my blood tested next month anyway - Dr Bobby requires blood test every 6 months.. I have been eating spinach - yogurt - bananas - Marcy get some vitatimans that have extra Iron in them and then some laxitive in case you get stopped up... Karri - I assume that you don't take any blood pressure meds due to your age - so yes I think you need more food and make sure you are taking your vitamins... Drink so OJ...

Hey Gang Yes I am feeling better today - went to the gym and did 3 miles this morning.. Got 15 of my 20 days in... That averages 4 days a week so I am happy. Linda - 80 lbs less than last year Karri - 65 less than last yr - size 12 - I'm jealous Phyl - 56 Less than last year BlooEyez - 58 Less than last yr Kirajh - You are doing great on your bike - I guess I should add up all my miles and see where I have walked too Turtle - 78 less than last yr - What i have read about the hair loss it just happens to some but not all - you can get all your protein & botein but it can still happen - they really don't know why... I have read that it all comes back.. I'm not into sports too much - but glad the Patriots won - I am a Cowboy fan but when i saw the score in the 3rd quarter - they were losing.. I am off to the store in a bit - I need some fish and veggies.. Well, Gang - We are ending 2007 a lot lighter than what we started and by the end of 2008 we will be even lighter...
